Vodka in a Watermelon
I was going to take pictures, but who the hell cares, we all know what a watermelon looks like, and if you haven't seen a bottle of vodka.. well.. go look.
I cut a small hole in the watermelon, and started pouring in the vodka. It was hard at first, but then after the vodka started soaking in, it was quite easy. You just have to go slow, a tablespoon or so at a time until it soaks in. I used about a half a bottle of the medium Smirnoff bottles. It tasted exactly like you would expect, except there is no "upfront" taste of liquor, just the aftertaste, which for me is the worse part. All in all, pretty horrible, but if you really like vodka, and you have a watermelon that you are not using, it would certainly keep a few alcoholic friends occupied for quite some time. It will confuse and amaze them that they can now eat their liquor, and it won't be half bad tastewise. link for reference: How to Make a Vodka Watermelon: 7 steps (with video) - wikiHow |
I've done this by setting the watermelon on end and having something on hand to prop it up, then cutting the hole basically where the stem is. Then I cut deep and wide enough so that most of the neck of the bottle is inside the watermelon but only just so. Place the watermelon on top, hold both bottle and melon firmly and invert. The vodka slowly drains into the melon and it is much less labor intensive. It's also imporant to have the bottom of the cut as flat as possible.

We used to do this alot but we would use Midori instead of vodka.

I had a Bacardi O watermelon at a TFP meetup many moons ago that I really liked, but I've never done it myself. Guess it's something to do this summer. :)

Back in college band, we would serve electric pudding in the stands, so there's another form of alcoholic food. Same concept as jello shots, but with Kahlua or amaretto.

bleh!
If you really like vodka skip the fruit and just grab the bottle ;) but then.. I guess if you have smirnoff you have to try anything to improve the taste  |
