Your favorite rum!
We've heard about your favorite vodka, but what about your favorite rum? Bacardi? Myers? Flor de Cana?
Personally, I don't know the first thing about rum. I've only had Bacardi and while it was good in a mojito, I have nothing to compare it with. Perhaps I'd like Zaya more? I dunno. What about you? |
I'm not a fan of any of the Bacardi rums I've tried. Myers is pretty good. I usually stick with Capt. Morgans (either the regular spiced rum or the private stock). I also like Malibu coconut rum. I just picked up a handle of Sailor Jerry spiced navy rum and I'm undecided on it. It is going to take some more sampling before I make a decision.
|
Of the rums I have tried (which aren't that many), I buy Capt. Morgan's original spiced rum.
Dr. Pepper and rum for the win! |
No contest: Captain Morgan's Private Stock. On the Rocks with a wedge of lime.
|
Looks like we have a consensus! You've got a little captain in you.
|
Another vote for Captain Morgan... although, really, I've never met a rum I haven't liked.
|
I don't like rum much at all. My wife however loves the shit, She like Malibu and Captain Private Stock.
|
Ah, rum... my strong preference is Pusser's British Navy Rum. It has way more flavor and aroma than any of the Bacardi's.
|
I only like rum in a mojito. I don't really care for other drinks where rum is a major component, and I'm not a big fan of spiced rum either.
So if anyone has a rum to recommend that makes a great mojito, please do. :) Otherwise I will keep drinking Bacardi. |
In my 20's, rum was my liquor of choice. Rum & Coke, daiquiris, etc. I preferred dark rums, particularly Captain Morgan's or Bacardi Gold. I was too poor to drink sipping rums such as Captain Morgan's Private Stock or Bacardi Anejo.
Nowadays, however, my liquor of choice is tequila. And, just like my rum, I prefer my tequila golden, not clear. |
Rum & Coke <3.
I haven't tried many, but I'm not really picky. I've only really had Captain Morgan and Bacardi 151 mostly. I've had some off brands and I don't mind them. |
1873 is the best in a drink. It's like candy!! delicious!
|
Myer's Navy Rum was what I grew up on, but now that my tastes have extended in other directions, occasionally I will bring home Gosling's Black Seal Bermuda Rum.

The only one that I'll drink...

Lately I'm preferring the amber and dark "high end" tequilas to rums, but in some drinks like a mojito, which I happen to like, you gotta have rum....I think: I just stumbled on this mojito recipe...and get this, it has no rum in it! I don't get it, I haven't tried it yet, but here it is:
Black Label Mojito 1-1/2 oz Johnnie Walker Black Label 1 oz fresh lime juice 2 oz ginger ale 1/2 oz simple syrup 1 splash sour mix (use fresh mix for best results) shake over ice, garnish with lime twist ps: when I do drink rum, I usually ask for Myer's |
Screech.
It's got body, it's spicy: http://www.screechrum.com/home.html - read the story of screech there. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...ottle_full.gif http://www.lcbo.com/lcbo-ear/lcbo/pr...temNumber=4622 |
...almost 10 years ago, I vacationed in Jamaica. When departing at the airport, I couldn't resist taking advantage of Duty-Free Cruzan Virgin Island Rum so I bought a "case" of 4. I came home, made a few Pina Coladas (i'm a sucker for those cute little paper umbrellas)...and then lost interest (i think it's a lower quality on the charts). So i still have almost all of it. I never could pass up a good deal.
