I am eating an apple sliced, with smooth, sugar-free peanut butter. Fibre and protein = reduced swings in blood sugar levels.
I am drinking a massive bottle of water and a can of Diet Coke, with a purple, glittery straw for good luck.
This is a good snack for "studying", I think, but it's possible that listening to "Kelly Clarkson - Already Gone (Bimbo Jones Club Mix)" on repeat might negate my chances of any serious academic accomplishment.

It is Durian, the king of fruits! The fruit with the "offensive" odor and taste that people either love or hate. It's a very distinct smell, combining elements of raw onions, hardboiled eggs, roquefort, and sulfur. The taste is like cream cheese and sweet carmelized onions with banana custard, and a lingering fermented aftertaste. On paper, it all sounds disgusting. But once you've tried it, you'll never smell or taste it the same way.

Honestly, just cut it open, scoop out the custardy creamy flesh and eat as is. I've used frozen durian in milkshakes and ice cream, and have seen it used in other desserts.

Ripe durian will usually start to bulge and crack by itself, which makes it easier to open it along that line. Unripe ones (probably a majority of the ones we find here in the states) are harder to open, and require some patience, a sharp knife and maybe a thick glove. Slice it open lengthwise to keep as much of the flesh intact, then carefully pry it open. There's at least 4 chambers containing the flesh, which you can scoop out with a spoon. When Anthony Bourdain was in Southeast Asia, he basically scalped it with a cleaver and scooped out the flesh from the top. Either way works fine for me.

While this isn't what I'm eating right now it was a pretty awesome meal last week. I love my new asian dishes.

Evilbeef...I was almost going to do my graduate research on Durian. But then the company needing the research done backed out due to our lovely state of monetary affairs.

I just had lunch at the Ted Turner's Montana Grill in Warrington PA...a very yummy burger, one of the best I've had in a LONG time. They serve beef or bison, but since our waitress said the bison was more healthy, I had the beef. So it was a nice fat juicy burger accompanied by some very good "fresh cut" french fries, plus two Yuengling lagers. pic from Ted's site:

I hear mixed reviews on that place. There's one near me but I've yet to try it out. I'm a burger fanatic tho - my favorite food 2nd to sandwiches in general. I need to try it me thinks.
