I'd go for a club with avocado and sprouts on sour dough (has to be toasted or its not a club), bag of jalapeno or habanero chips, and an iced tea.

If avocados are not in season or the toaster is broken, then I'd be open to try something different... depending on my mood.

Turkey, lettuce, tomato, bean sprouts, avocado, bacon, and mayo on toasted french bread.

Although sometimes there's nothing better than a good, messy Reuben with red potato salad. I'm very picky about my tater salad though...no mustard!

In my part of the country Subway is the only sandwich shop. When we get to DC of NY where they have real delis I usually go with roast beef - preferably brisket, on sourdough with provolone.

Turkey with tomato and spinach leaves (Subway has that now). And maybe a little mayo, but restaurants always put too much mayo on, so I would probably order that on the side. Depending on my day, maybe cheddar cheese, but then skip the mayo.

I'm not fond of pickles or premade potato/mac salads. It tastes bitter to me, the potato/mac salad, unless I make it fresh. Cole slaw is okay, but I skip it these days as it sticks to my braces.

The only place I've ever had potato salad that I like outside the home is a bbq shack in central Kansas. They have a line out the door every day.

I've never had a monte cristo sandwich. Does anybody like those? I never see them on a menu.

Yes, I like Monte Cristos. Yum. I have had them in a restaurant, but it was at a small place in Leavenworth, Washington. I've had one somewhere else, but it was so long ago I can't remember where.

I also like Monte Cristos. Monte Cristo sandwich - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia There's a diner around here that serves all sorts of awesome breakfast foods and they have a dynamite Monte Cristo....must have one this week.

It also reminded me of croque monsieur sambos. When I was in Paris, I ate more of those than I could count in French!

wiki ref: According to food historian Linda Stradley, the Monte Cristo is a variation of the French croque-monsieur.

A croque-monsieur is a hot ham and cheese (typically emmental or gruyère) grilled sandwich. It originated in France as a fast-food snack served in cafés and bars.

Whole wheat bread, dijon mustard, provolone cheese, and roast beef. I've always loved this sandwich. When I worked for the phone company over here, I would have it made fresh everyday I worked.
