It is a cool place, particularly the atmosphere. The food...I've had better but it was pretty good. Best restaurant I have ever been to...I'd say there are several. One of my favourites, because of history, quality of food and service, is "Os Arcos", close to where I live. Very fresh everything, especially seafood. Old-fashioned place but I have never had a less-than-excellent meal there. For something even higher quality out here, I'd suggest the Restaurant of the Guincho Fortress Hotel. Not only is it a beautiful location, one of the best around here, the food is also amazing. In fact, several of the restaurants around there are awesome, because they have perfect seafood. Here is a pic of the Guincho Coast: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70...adoGuincho.jpg Outside of Portugal, when I was in Brasil in Salvador da Bahia, I had one of the best meals of my life. Oddly enough it was at a Churrascaria. It was called Boi Preto and it wasn't cheap. Apart from melt-in-your-mouth-like-butter cuts of meat (the best I have ever eaten) brought to your table, it also had an enormous buffet of the freshest delicacies you could think of. They had a giant parmesan cheese all broken up inside you could just grab chunks out of. Lobster. Amazing sushi. I couldn't even decide what to eat, there were so many wonderful things. Now I'm hungry :) |

If price is no object, I recommend a Brazilian steakhouse. I went to one in Addison, Texas called Texas de Brazil. If you've never been to one of these places, I'll describe it for you. You walk in and are seated. The waiter asks you what you want to drink. There is no menu - you get the all-you-can-eat. That consists of a great salad bar with stuff like brie cheese and smoked salmon, as well as regular salad bar stuff and soups. The schtick is that you get a little cardboard disc. One side is red with the word "no" on it and the other side, green with "sim" on it (Portuguese for "yes" and "no.") When you turn your disc over to green, you get swarmed by waiters carrying these skewers with all kinds of meat on them. Some are skewered whole, like the filets, and others are sliced off at your tableside. When you've gotten all you want, turn the card over and they go away. Once I turned my card over and a guy came by with some filet cuts. I got some, and another guy comes over and says "I've got filet." I said I already had some and his response was, "Mine's wrapped in bacon." So I had both. It costs about $50 per person but for a guy that likes medium rare meat, perfectly seasoned, and a lot of it, it's probably worth it. |
