Creative Sushi!

Z and I have a regular sushi place where we go every other Friday after work. They are becoming a creative bunch and last night they revealed two of their new rolls to us: The Candy Cane roll and Christmas Tree roll. In addition to being great tastes, the presentation was impressive:

That's some nice and cool looking sushi you got there. I wonder what's the place name to order those type of sushi. I don't see those where I live. We just got plain normal looking sushis here.

I love Sushi

The crap you can get in the UK from various trendy franchises is a poor imitation. The supermarket version is an an atrocity.

If I ever get mad rich I'll eat GOOD sushi every other day.

There is a supermarket chain here in the States called Wegman's that serves really good, high quality sushi at decent prices. That was my entree into the world of sushi.
I've eaten it in many fancy restaurants, paid much more, but still think that Weg's is right up there.

I went to one in Columbia SC, with tepanyaki tables as well. It was pretty good, but a bit of a drive for you I suppose.

Only about 1.5-2 hours away depending on traffic and how you drive. I actually have a buddy who lives down that way, might serve as a good excuse, but he's not much of a sushi guy. I just need to get out more, I've only spent about 2 months total here in Charlotte since moving here 6 months ago. At least there's a great sushi place near my school in Virginia.

If I remember correctly, it's near a mall that has a Barns & Noble (book store similar to Chapters/Indigo). I guess you get to the opportunity to take in some NHL on the cheap living down there eh?

What happens is that you get picky about it. I had fantastic sushi in a couple places in Japan -- on the Japan Sea coast and up in Hokkaido. After that, i couldn't get excited about Tokyo sushi, and i'm sure that's generally much better than what you get abroad. I don't bother with it anymore because i know that here in the American midwest, i'll end up either disappointed or with food poisoning.

That's when you start making your own. It's ridiculously cheap, ~$1-2 per roll. Here's a picture of some that my wife and I made awhile back. These are a bit heavy on the rice, but that's easy to fix. The best thing about it is you get to pick what goes in the roll.
