HMMMMMMMMMM Good steak marinade.
Honestly, it sounds simple and just weird, but marinate a steak in Ketchup and home made horseradish. It was an accident, however it was all we had at my friends cabin. It would have been better if we used a better cut but hey it was all I had.

Every time I read the title to this thread I think "good steak doesn't need a marinade." However, in a pinch, you might also try an oil and vinegar based Italian salad dressing like Bernstein's, Newman's, Good Seasons, whatever. Good flavor and the oil and vinegar work to macerate the cheaper cuts...

I personally find it hard to marinate a steak without using garlic (or marinate anything). I think the use of ketchup would be closer to barbecue sauce than other marinades, which I wouldn't use on an expensive steak, but would be good on certain cuts.
