Drink Mixing
I'm curious for those who mix whiskey ( - Yeah, I can see the look on some of your faces at that) with sodas and the like -
What ratio do you mix it? I've found that half whiskey/half coke is good for me. Not too terribly strong, and damned delicious. Same with coke and rum. How about you guys? Do you just put in a splash of coke? Or do you dilute the hell out of your liquor with coke to drown out the taste?

It depends on my mood.
Sometimes I like a strong drink. A strong drink in our household is referred to as being in the style of my boyfriend's grandpa (he likes Canadian Mist with a diet caffeine free Coke float). I don't usually drink weak drinks...not my style.

Half whiskey-half mixer is usually how I drink it, although I tend to be heavier on the mix at times.
I'm not much of a whiskey drinker it does get a bit strong sometimes. But always with plenty of ice.

Like snowy, it really depends on my mood, and I tend to select which alcohol I drink by how much I care to taste the booze. I tend to drink my captain and cokes with plenty of coke and my gin and tonics fairly balanced. When I drink whiskeys, I drink them neat. If it's really hot out and I"m still in a whiskey mood (almost never happens), I'll throw in a few cubes of ice.

Normally I'm the type of gal who likes a strong drink. The kind of drink that could carry you over the threshold AND convince you to have anal sex for the first time the same night. The kind of drink they drank back when men were men and there was a whorehouse on every block. The kind of drink they give to pirates to sober them up. A proper drink.
However, on occasion I like to mix my drinks with a little something extra. I prefer my burbon (Eagle Rare) with a bit of sweet vermouth (Cinzano) mixed in the Manhattan style- 2 burbon to 1/2 vermouth. Sometimes, to kick it up a notch, I give my straight burbon a blast with my bitters weasel. I prefer my martinis with lots of gin (regular Bombay- NOT the Sapphire) and very dirty- it should taste like a salted pine tree. Rum (Pyrat XO Reserve) is drunk straight, unless I feel like making a daquri (for which I use the Cruzian Single Barrel). The only thing I like tequilla (Sauza Hornitos) for is margiritas, and ONLY with fresh lime. I don't like vodka, but I keep a bottle of Finlandia around for the rare occasion. My cordial of choice is either Grand Marnier or Cherry Marnier (which you can't get in the US anymore- I have one bottle and no I won't share). The only thing I've ever mixed with coke is Laird's Apple Jack, which tastes GREAT and is wonderful to get happily, bubbily drunk on.
