Skin of the pudding!!

I usually make jello instant pudding...but I decided that I'd try the cook kind that you make with milk....and I'm glad I did because it tastes much better than the instant kind. However...there was a skin on top of the pudding that was kind of gross. Anyone know of a way to prevent that?

place plastic wrap in contact with the pudding when it sets.

i've seen fistfights practically develop over who gets the skin of the pudding... you might be able to auction it off on Ebay..

but dilbert's right - you want to make sure that no air comes in contact with the pudding.. put the plastic wrap right on the pudding. and you'll be skin free...not just over the top of the bowl, but directly on the pudding itself

psst -and if you think the cooked jello puddding is good- try making your own pudding.. it's easy - -and the ingredients you would probably already have on hand - cornstarch, milk, eggs, and sugar... plus whatever you want to flavor it with...

Oh, the skin! My favorite part. Especially butterscotch, mmm.... happy childhood memories... of shoving my sister to the floor for the skin. Yeah, the plastic wrap thing works well.

People like the skin????

Anyway, thanks for the tips...I'll try the plastic wrap next time!

Mal...I'll have to look into making my own sometime...I try not to make it too often because I love it and will just eat the entire bowl myself.

You know, you can make pudding skin in a dehydrator with that flat plastic sheet they give you for making fruit roll-ups... Comfort food!

It's someone messy, but I like to roll up the skin of the pudding with some whipped cream inside and the outer side of the skin outside, kind of like a canoli, but very messy.

I always liked the "skin" of pudding... think of it as a cap that keeps the rest soft and creamy.

Somone once told me that a pouring a bit of suger on top of the pudding would remove the skin. I haven't tried it yet though, so I don't know if it actually works.
