St. Patty's Day menu
I'm planning on making a big Irish-ish ( ) feast of corned beef, potatoes, cabbage, short bread, Guinness, and whiskey for a bunch of fine folks on St. Patty's Day. I won't be keeping strictly to an Irish theme, as I'll also be including my world-famous cheesy garlic-mashed potatoes, but I'd like some input as to other menu items I can include.
Oh, and as a side note, any particularly Irish activities to propose for the party? All I can think of is getting rip roaring drunk, and fighting... I have nothing against getting drunk, although we'll certainly have designated drivers in the crowd. And I'd like to avoid the brawling. We have a little room in the back yard for sheep....

It wouldn't be st patty's day without Irish Coffee...
Coffee Healthy shot of jameson's Whipped cream with some green creme de menthe drizzled over it blackthorn's colcannon sounds outstanding here: http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthread.php?t=101581 Have lots of irish toasts and blessings available (I did this one year as an ice breaker with people - i split toasts and blessings up into two cards - and everyone got a card when they entered... they then had to match up their card with the other person... maybe a limerick writing contest... and its the new zealanders that you have to worry about sheep -- not the irish we're too busy getting drunk to care about sheep...

I'm making the biggest rack of lamb I can on my bbq, corned beef, cabbage, the drakest irish beer I can find, and we're going to do a small concert. I'm only having a few friends over (15-20), but it should be really fun. I can't wait for Oktobersest.

Irish descent and grew up in a house with Irish music as the main form of entertainment.
Beer Songs Stories Friends and Family Simple foods, gotta have some kind of meat with some kind of potatoes. But really it's about the beer/whiskey and laughing your drunken ass off. I've got my Irish Flag ready to be hoisted. Darts is a good idea, Horseshoes is another excellent game.. if you have any horseshoes lying around.

It's funny, I've never heard of eating Corned Beef Hash and Cabbage for St. Patrick's Day...
All I know is, beer, singing, storytelling, dancing and more beer. Who has time to eat?

I love a good brisket... just never associated it with St. Patrick's Day.
Beer... it's all about the beer.

You have to make Irish Soda Bread on St Pat's
Here's my mum's recipe: 2 cups flour 1 cup quick cooking or old fashioned oats (not instant) 1/4 cup sugar 2 Tbl baking powder 1/2 tsp salt mix above ingredients in a bowl, cut in 3 tbl soft butter with 2 knives or a pastry blender add 1/3 cup raisins and 1 cup milk knead on a lightly floured suface 1or 2 min., shape into a round loaf approx 6 1/2 in. place on a greased cookie sheet, cut an x about 1/2 in. deep across top of loaf, brush with a beaten egg wash, bake at 375 until golden brown approx. 35-45 min a toohpick inserted in the center should come out dry. Happy St Patty's Day! |
