Baraka_Guru 04-01-2011 06:18 AM

Dude, I'm already here.

Let's do it up!

Leto 04-01-2011 06:22 AM

now that's sumthin' Is it the long weekend?

Baraka_Guru 04-01-2011 06:27 AM

Naw. It's the following weekend.

Edit: Oh, you mean for him.... Yeah, I guess Memorial Day is on the 30th.

Halx 04-01-2011 06:32 AM

Yeah, I will be in town because a friend and I are coming to see some baseball games. He's trying to visit all 30 stadiums this year, so I figured I'd tag along for Toronto. We'll be seeing games Thursday and Friday, then I'll be taking Saturday to check out the city and hang out with you people.

fresnelly 04-01-2011 08:07 AM

Count me in.

settie 04-01-2011 01:19 PM

iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

amonkie 04-01-2011 03:30 PM

If I can figure out travel logistics, I may be in as well.

Martian 04-01-2011 05:33 PM

We'll figure out something interesting to do.

That's three confirmed Toronto gents. I'm willing to bet we can talk aberkok into making an appearance too.

Halx 04-02-2011 07:17 AM

I'm going to get in touch with cello on FB. I don't even know how Toronto is laid out, so I need everyone's help in suggesting locations. I'll be staying at the hotel at the Rodgers Center that overlooks the ballpark.

Baraka_Guru 04-02-2011 09:03 AM

Queen West isn't far, and it has lots of places to hang out. You just walk up Blue Jays Way a couple of blocks.

Martian 04-02-2011 12:40 PM

More generally, the Skydome (only folks from out of town call it the Rogers Centre) is right downtown. With a day pass for the TTC you've got pretty much free reign over the entire city.

Our standard thing when TFPers come to visit is dinner and/or drinks. I'm sure we can modify that if you want to do something more exciting, though.

Baraka_Guru 04-02-2011 01:19 PM

What would be all Torontoesque and all Canadianlike?

amonkie 04-02-2011 01:30 PM

Following the val kilmer trail of cheese?

Halx 04-02-2011 07:41 PM

Well, cello is in. Guess we have 2 months to figure out the where of it.

kramus 04-02-2011 08:03 PM

I'm away from my paper calendar for a couple of weeks, so I'll hold off a chime-in for a bit.

I do like the dinosaurs at the ROM but that little visit can eat cash and time, and is less a TO specific destination because of it being a museum. That said, the gem collection in the Mineral hall is gorgeous, and the flight of birds in the Animal exhibit is awesome.

cellophanedeity 04-22-2011 07:33 AM

I am definitely in! Are you in town and free all day, or will you be doing a lunch/pub thing?

aberkok 04-25-2011 06:00 PM

Would love to join you folks. Unfortunately I am stuck teaching until 3:00p.m., so could only meet by 4p.m. Hope that is late enough to catch you Halx. Please advise.

I've been wanting to do that for years... do you think your friend could tell us the estimated cost, with tickets, hotels, and such?

No excuses, TFPer. You posted in this thread; now you have to come to the Toronto event!

Halx 04-26-2011 06:11 PM

One more month! I will be in town and free all day, so I don't think there are any time constraints. Who has an idea for what to do?

Cool, who's buying my plane ticket? ;)

I also humbly suggest that lots of pictures be taken, eh.

Well, it depends on what you want to do. Do you want to tour and see landmarks? Want to see local talent? Want to sample the local brew?

Um.... is that a bunny over there?! *points* *runs*

Word. Eh?

Martian 05-09-2011 03:35 PM

Yeah, I'm still thinking dinner/drinks, which while not a bad way to spend a day or evening, isn't really tourist-y. We can probably visit a few local landmarks if that's more your speed. The CN Tower is right next door to where you're staying, but it's a bit spendy. We can also do Kensington Market, or... I don't know, I'm still kind of new to the city myself. Perhaps Mr. Guru can come up with a few more options.

Baraka_Guru 05-09-2011 04:26 PM

It really depends on what Halx is into. Toronto has a little bit of everything and a lot of everything else.

We should consider doing Canadiany things. That, by default, includes delicious beer, potentially locally produced, in addition to having a few donuts and maybe visiting one of those new poutinery locations downtown.

But what else? It's not like he's going to have time to take off to the Great White North.

Halx 05-12-2011 05:08 AM

During the day, I'd love to check out some sights. I can do this on my own, but if you guys have this natural tour guide in you, it would be cool to hang out during all that. In the evening is when I think we should ALL meet for some food. Somewhere relatively near the stadium.

Does that help?

fresnelly 05-12-2011 05:16 AM

Nude orgy at Hanlan's Point?

Might be tough to convince my wife...

Baraka_Guru 05-12-2011 05:26 AM

For food near the stadium, there are many options. It's a matter of pinning down what sort of cuisine/food type you want.

Leto 05-12-2011 08:43 AM

Take him to the St Lawrence Market for peameal bacon on a bun, or Kensington Mkt for sausages, cheese or coffee.

Halx 05-13-2011 09:51 AM

Maybe we should take this to Facebook, since I have most of you as friends there.

I need Leto and settie!

iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

jannista 05-18-2011 10:47 AM

Sounds tempting. The weather forecast here isn't looking so good so maybe a road trip is in order.

Halx 05-26-2011 08:58 PM

OK, we're set:

Saturday, May 28th
7PM
Duke of York
39 Prince Arthur Avenue
Toronto, Ontario M5R 1B2

BE THERE

kramus 05-26-2011 11:34 PM

Cool. Just down the street from my art show at Dignam Gallery (we're part of Open Doors Toronto hint-hint). My boy decided to go out of town this weekend so I'm free after gallery hours

Wo0t!

Charlatan 05-29-2011 05:05 PM

This is when I miss Toronto.

Wish I could have been there.

Giant Hamburger 05-31-2011 12:38 PM

What food did you order?

Baraka_Guru 05-31-2011 12:45 PM

I had the vegetable stew, and I washed it down with a Guinness.

amonkie 05-31-2011 04:02 PM

It makes me happy to say I have met each and every Torontonian (and the Lakers fan) sitting at the table.

You guys are looking as good as always!!
