Vacation: Seattle, Idaho, & SoCal
 

So I just put in for leave for Aug 5th - 23rd.

My buddy and me are going to California for an old friends wedding on Aug 7th. ( He is on TFP but forgot his username. Rocketmanak or Greenrangerguy. one of those I believe.

The MAIN thing we are doing is Flying in to Seattle from Anchorage and we are going to get my buddy a new truck. He found a good deal on a truck down in Idaho. From there we will drive to California for the wedding. Hang out for a day or two. Then from there we are doing whatever we can till we are to drive back home to Anchorage.

I hear the drive is about 5 days or so.

The wedding is in Hawaiian Gardens, California. Close to Anaheim.

So we are trying to find out what to do or what things we can do in the the areas that are close enough to enjoy but when we need to go and start driving, we will be ready.

Any Ideas? Anyone want to hang out? show us around? whatever?

What an adventure! You'll be seeing a large chunk of the West on this epic road trip.

Disneyland is in Aneheim, and is fun in the summer, but it'll be super busy and sweltering hot in August. What kinds of things are you interested in? You'll be close enough to the beach to enjoy some fun in the sun, maybe learn to surf if you're interested in that sort of thing. Some great mountain biking, hiking, etc.
I'll be stuck in Ohio, so no meetups here :(

Summer in Seattle is gorgeous. I don't know you but I like to meet new people. I can show you a good time in Seattle for sure.

If you're running down I-5 you'll be passing through my neck of the woods. If you guys are up for it we could do a day of mild whitewater class 2 rapids, nothing to dangerous, but still a lot of fun) rafting on the Rogue River for under $20.00/person. I run this stretch of water several times every season, and it doesn't take much arm twisting to get me to go float the river.

As someone who went rafting for the first time last summer, may I say to blktour: DO IT. Rafting is amazing. Class 2 is fun but not scary. I definitely want to raft the Rogue sometime. I think this summer we're looking at doing the Umpqua or Deschutes (a friend is a guide on the Deschutes).

You might be passing my way too--I'd say let's meet up but since I am getting married at the end of August, August is full. :(

snowy, anytime you and your guy wanna raft the rogue for a day, let me know. We can rent a raft for around $10-$15/person for a day trip(paddles and life jackets included), and I'd be more than happy to introduce you guys to the same run. This run is a blast in inflatable kayaks too, if that's more your thing (I normally run my inflatable kayak, but a lot of people prefer a raft, so I'm open to that too!).

/edit: BTW this offer holds true for any TFP'er that is interested in a fun whitewater day trip. As a matter of fact. I am planning a group float for May 30. If ya'll want in on it I don't need to reserve rafts until sometime next week, so PM me and I'll send ya the details!

Water rafting? sounds like fun. Though i am "dry" behind the ears. a true newbster when it comes to water.

I would be down for that. I will shoot it towards my buddy, see what he says. and we can plan it out and such. I would be totally up for this. Even though I'd be scared of being out of my "comfort zone" but hey, we only live once.

Seattle and rain is all I hear about. I would love to see a "summer seattle". change my perspective.

The stretch of water we'd be rafting, while exciting, is relatively safe. No huge rapids, but still enough whitewater to be a lot of fun. It really is the best of both worlds. I run it in an inflatable kayak w/o any issues, and a raft is way more stable than my inflatable kayaks.
