Attention NYC TFPers!
So, I want to go see this play with onodrim: In 'Race,' David Alan Grier Confronts Painful Issues : NPR
Of course, I don't live in NYC, and I'm also not rich. So, in order to figure out if we can afford to see this, I need to figure out what the costs would be. The tickets would be about $275, and, whether flying or driving, travel would cost about $175. Already, that's expensive, and I NYC hotels certainly aren't known for being cheap. If we go, it would be sometime in Feb after the 10th, or perhaps in the second half of March (we need to be in Chicago the first week of March to meet dlish!). The question I have is: are there any NYC TFPers who are willing to open up their couch for a few days so we don't have to spend hundreds on hotel costs? It'd be great to kill three birds with one stone: see the play, save money, AND meet some more TFPers.

its seems that ill be in NYC from the 1-4th March, then in chicago 4-8th March, then im not sure yet, my itinerary is a work in progress... for the 3 nights in NYC, in a 3 star hotel, the best deal (with breakfast) i could find so far is a hotel around 34th st for 144 USD/night. not cheap at all really. but i have no choice. i prefer to be closer to the action instead of catching cabs and paying unnecessary tips. the best website i found that has the best deals on hotels is this one. travelsupermarket.com - the travel comparison site i found that i could save 5-7% compared to other websites and around 25% cheaper than going to the hotels website directly. i also did some reading on how to catch some deals, so you may want to read this website on how to do it on the cheap. its a great read with some great ideas... Cheap Hotels: Bag 5*, hostels or unnamed bargains... unfortunately with the 'Lishs' with me i couldnt ask to sleep on anyones couch. though couchsurfing is one of the cheapst way to get around. if none of the NYC TFP'ers would put you up, try CouchSurfing - Participate in Creating a Better World, One Couch At A Time looking forward to seeing you in Chi-city!

dlish: Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not sure if we'll be able to manage it if a hotel is needed, but we have a number of other options. On top of asking here, ono and I are meeting an old HS friend this weekend who, coincidentally, also lives in NYC now. After catching up, I figure I'll mention it to her as well and see how she feels about it. I'd prefer to stay with someone we know at least a little bit, but couch surfing is also something I considered as a possibility. I just don't know what the standard etiquette is when it comes to that. Onodrim also mentioned www.airbnb.com as a place to look, and it seems to me that's the most affordable way to go if we end up paying.
Maybe we could mirror your NYC and Chi visits and meet up with BOTH groups!
