Annnnnd I just got Friday off, so this means if my bestest friend that is the other reason why I'm making this trip loves me, I have a place for the pooch for the day. May still keep the room for now, but that opens up the plan!
Should be able to confirm my dogless state by later today. EDIT - UPDATE. I'm dog free! So that means I'm pretty much getting into Toronto area around lunchtime/afternoon, and free for whatever till Sunday morning. Who's in? Sending PM's to the TO area right now...

Definitely in! I'm teaching the Saturday morning from 10am - 2pm, but otherwise I am down - even for a potential overnight party.

So from sounds of it, I'll probably be in the Toronto area by noonish on Saturday.
The only thing on my agenda is a good time with you fine folks, and a visit to a special gargoyle. So we have Aberkok, Cellophanedeity... anyone else confirmed? I can do some chauffering but if I could have a headsup who and how many so I make sure I have room, that would be great.

You forgot me.
I'm going to double check this with Mags (if she doesn't see this first). I didn't realize in the initial planning stages that this was Valentine's day weekend. I don't foresee an issue with that, though -- either I'll come back on Sunday or we'll spend the weekend in Toronto and do stuff there.

Martian - the hotel I grabbed is a Suite with separate living room/bedroom - if you guys are interested and your sis doesn't have space for both of you, I'd be happy to let you guys have the bedroom.

It's confirmed -- Mags and I will be coming to Toronto for this.
I don't anticipate that it'll be a problem staying with the fam, but it's good to have a backup. I appreciate the offer.

Update -- We will be in Toronto around noon, and will be able to stay with my sister over night. You can have your bed, monkie.
Can we nail down some times? Magpie wants to squeeze in a visit with some of her friends, and I'd like to spend some time actually visiting with my sister too, if possible. If I know when/where/what we're doing, it'll be easier to arrange it all to everyone's satisfaction. Any ideas from the actual Torontonians?

I'm in for an afternooner Saturday My boys are not in that weekend, and Saturdays are kid-free when it comes to my Lady's youngsters. So, all I need to do is pull a few hours away from the prep I'm doing for the end of that month - and Monkie in town at the same time I'm free is an awesome excuse for a break

Awesome!
What about something early afternoon for starters... leading into dinner for folks who can hang around that long, or a place for folks with afternoon plans to join us later? Ie: 2-3pm meetup at coffeehouse or something similar... 6pm dinner - Something yummy 9pm - grab drinks somewhere I'm totally open to folks just stopping by for an hour or hangin with me till the weeeee hours My hotel is just off the Sherbourne Subway stop on Bloor, so I can get around the city pretty easily car free. Whats central for everyone?

I'm open to the location, since I'm close to the subway.
I'm open to the timing, but I have a 10-hour window because my dog will likely be home alone....so whatever works best. If it's evening, the dog might not be an issue. I could always go home in between.

Where all did you guys do your holiday gift exchange a few years back? That seemed like a cozy space you were all able to get to and had enough room to have a larger group of folks.
As for dinner and after ... you guys live here, speak up And just a running head count - if numbers/texting is a good way to communicate once the day of has arrived, let me know and i'll add ya to my list Amonkie Martian (and magpie?) Cello Settie Baraka Guru Fresnelly Kramus Aberkok Leto?

So to be clear, we're up for dinner and/or afternoon activities. Evening stuff will likely be out for us, as I'll want to visit with family as well.
We'll be coming into Toronto from the East -- I was planning on taking the 401, but if anyone needs transportation that can easily be altered. I will PM you Magpie's cell number, Ms. Monkie. She has a texting plan, and I'll be driving, so you'll want to communicate with her. Magpie has suggested bowling as a possible activity.

I tried Danforth Bowl, but they're booked all day the 13th. That was the only one TTC friendly if any folks were coming that way.
I'm free for rides too. I'm working on getting Mr. Roachboy on board.. and promised him if he came we'd got to Prince of Egypt on Danforth (135 Danforth Ave) . However some sites are saying they closed.. can anyone confirm? If no one else is gonna chime in on dinner.. any objections to Bright Pearl near Kensington Market? I'm even up for a board game afternoon - I can bring some of my games and cards with me. Sounds like the best evening plans after dinner are a BYOB back to the Clarion Suites (Sherbourne and Bloor). That seems to be the most cost effective and best ambience for the deaf person so I can hear us talking, lol! ---------- Post added at 07:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:54 PM ---------- Did some Sleuthing.. would you guys recommend Duke of York for an afternoon of board/card games? Think this is where you had your Xmas exchange back in the day.

I would recommend the Duke. Sorry... I should be helping more with this stuff. I will now.
EDIT: Prince of Egypt is definitely closed (I live nearby and walk past where it used to be on a weekly basis). Anyone up for Ethiopian? I know a place or two that are excellent.

I Love ethiopian too! Definitely group sharing friendly as well.
Can you throw up the Ethopian places Aberkok for co-ordination options? I'm flexible. What do you guys think? Sounds like current options are Bright Pearl or an Ethiopian Suggestion.

Unfortunately my wife is away on business while you're here and I'm alone with the kids so I can't commit until I sort out a babysitter.

I've been to the Pearl and know that I like it and can eat most of what they serve. On the other hand, I've never tried Ethiopian, so I'd be open to that too.
If I were to cast a vote I'd say Bright Pearl on the sole basis of familiarity. I don't have a strong preference, though. fresnelly, find a babysitter. I haven't seen you in almost as long as I haven't seen monkie, and you don't have the excuse of being in another country. Do it. aberkok, what was that coffee place we went to last time? It might be a bit small for the entire group, but it doesn't seem like a bad hangout spot if we end up with a smaller number for lunch/afternoon stuff.

Any objections if we do Bright Pearl then? That seems to be the consensus, and it looks yummy.
And an update from the lovely Cello.. she'll be able to join us after dinner once she's off work.

Backing out at the last minute? Lame, settie. Very lame.
amonkie doesn't bite, if that's what you're worried about. At least, not unless you ask her to. Our arrival time is variable, and will depend mostly on how long it takes me to do the things I need to do. I'm estimating in the 12:00 to 1:00 range. I'm also anticipating that we'll be at the Bright Pearl and may be able to stick around for post-Bright Pearl activities for some time, although probably not excessively late. Say, nine-ish.
