I'm gonna be on TV!
The local Fox affiliate has pick up on our tune That Ain't the Motor City. We've being interviewed on their Fox2 Weekend morning news show this Sunday, December 14 between 9 and 10 am. We'll chat, play our tune, and maybe another, as well.
Gotta find a way to record it and get it up on you tube.

This is amazing. I was in a band too, and we kinda of got torn apart by college. We're still the best friends in the world, and jam when we can see each other, but I always wonder if we could've gotten anywhere if we had stayed together.
I'm definitely setting an alarm to remind me to watch that day. Congrats, man.

Seems like a tough thing to casually add to the conversation, Halx, but who knows?
And no, grumpyolddude, I don't get Fox2 Detroit . Now I'm demanding that either you, or someone with DVR equipment put this on youtube. Please?

So the 14th in the AM. Is that 9-10 Detroit time? And for your second tune are you going to do "Detroit Rock City" or something that doesn't suck? As for plugging this site you could always do AC/DC's "TNT" and just replace TNT with TFP. 'Cause I'm T.F.P I'm dynamite T.F.P And I'll win that fight T.F.P I'm a power load T.F.P Just watch me explode

Not gonna do a cover. Something else off our CD, if they want one. Nice call on the AC/DC thing, though.
I've wanted to cover Detroit, Rock City for a while. Haven't figured out how to translate Kiss in our powerpop style yet. You get Fox Detroit on your cable, Tully? Interesting how that stuff happens.

They call it Fox 2 Weekend Morning. It's like their daily morning news show, only more entertainment and features, less actual news.
Can't say for certain, but I suspect that we'll be interviewed by Jay Towers. He's got a morning radio show on 97.1 fm in Detroit, and covers entertainment for Fox on weekends. Hmmmm... maybe we can get on his radio show, too!

Ok, I get it now. It's a weekend. I checked the other morning and it looked like the news ended before 9am, least 9am my time. So it's 9am-10am Detroit time this Sat.?
Checked out your site today really like the songs I heard. Wish I would have been able to make your show in NYC. Sure don't want to miss you if you're going to be on free TV.

We'll be performing live as a 3 piece. Jeff is back, nearly full strength. My bronchitis is nearly gone, feeling a lot stronger than a week ago.
I've a vocal part, but not a stressful line. Getting excited!

Or even worse the Benny Hill Show, I mean considering Benny's dead and all.
Man, thought I lobbed a softball out there with the whole "magically in a burning bush" comment. Kind of figured I'd at least get a smart ass STD reference back at me.

Welllll..... that's done.
We showed up at 7:30, as scheduled. We set up and start sound checking during commercial breaks. The crew was great, but not a single on-air personality came by even to say hello. At first, we were set for 9:45... a quick interview and play "Motor City," the play another song as bumper fill. Uhhh....no! We got bumped up to 9:23, no interview, no bumper tune. They flashed our cd covers, promoted our Dec. 27 show, cut to us already plying (!) and cut us out after the solo... no third verse, no vamp. We packed up and left. That's show biz! |

Well any publicity is good, right? Too bad they jerked you around though.
I was on a local TV morning show out of Portland years ago, 1987(?), for working with troubled youths, AM Northwest. I had to drive from Tillamook, Or to Woodburn, Or. about 3 hours. Had to be there at 6am. No "talent" from the show arrived until about 8:50. The show went on at 9am. I sat around until about 9:45 Mary, the co-host, asked me one question and cut to commercial. The question she asked was "what do you think the problem is when teenagers get in trouble?" I don't remember what the hell I told her, I think something about increasing substance abuse, but I remember thinking "seriously could be make it a little more board?" I remember driving home and thinking I wore a tie for that? The co-host Mary (Starette?) ran for senate or some public office a couple years back. Ran as the anit-abortion candidate I think. Think she got about 4% of the vote.

Yes! i enjoyed it greatly.
good stuff, man. something i can dance too. when you said power-pop i expected something like "the marked men." while not as fast, this still made my foot tap. it really sucks that they fucked you guys over like that. but like you said, "thats show biz" oh well, at least you got your sound out there...even if it was olny a snippet.

I don't really feel screwed over, although maybe I should. We've no clue what goes on behind the scenes of a program like this. I got the sense that a lot of this show is "seat of the pants" production. You start with a rough outline and adjust for breaking news, leave a little extra in case a guest says something interesting worth following up, wrap as much as you can around the commercial schedule....
I had an ominous shudder when, about 10 minutes before we were to go on, they ran a story of local folks defacing and damaging imported cars. I don't know if that story affected how they treated our appearance or not, but I thought, "Oh, shit! We're gonna get blamed for inciting this bullshit!" Anyway, it is what it is and we move forward. we got a good plug in for the club and our upcoming show. A couple of people told me we looked and sounded good, a couple of others tell me I was off key. I dunno, I still haven't heard it myself. I was told that Fox 2 had the clip up on their web page, but all I've found is a blurb pointing to a free download we set up: MyFox Detroit | Download "That Ain't the Motor City" by The Romeo Flynns . Since Fox's dvd burner wasn't in service this morning, I'm stuck waiting for a friend to post the clip, or send me a copy on disc so I can post it. Meanwhile you can follow that link to the free download, or just go here: The Romeo Flynns | What's Left Records and get it.

...and I STILL haven't seen the video!!! So much for a "friend" posting it on youtube!
Latest development: we're gonna be on Mitch Albom's nationally syndicated radio show on Wednesday, Feb. 4. Locally (SE Michigan), the show broadcasts on 760 AM (WJR) from 5 to 7 pm. We'll be in studio through the entire show, talking to Mitch and playing short clips of 6 to 8 tunes live. WJR is a "clear channel" station that can be heard over most of the eastern US, plus the station podcasts shows from their website News/Talk 760 WJR . (plus we're at Paychecks in Hamtramck tonight (1/31), the Hard Rock Cafe- Detroit on Thursday (2/5) and TNT's in Clinton TWP on Sat 2/14... end of blatant promo)
