Bastard States Meetup

So .. what is up with this??

Monkie has relocated from New York, and as per tradition, it is time to gather all the TFP folks in the area together so that I may spew awesomeness in your presence and continue TFP meetup traditions. Oh, and yes, of course my sidekick tecoyah will be along for the ride and in the race for the biggest bastard title.

As I tried to think of a title for this thread, I literally spent 20 minutes trying to classify Kentucky and its surround states. I am at a loss for words.. they left us out when they gave the regional names for this state.

Tecoyah and I are currently habitating in Louisville, KY and would be happy to make a trip of up to approximately 3 hours driving each way to meet up with some of you folks that are driving distance from some of the following cities:

Indianapolis, IN
Columbus, OH
Cincinnati, OH
Huntington, WV
Mt Vernon, IL
Nashville, TN

Right now, we would be most available for a Saturday lunch or dinner, or Sunday lunch meetup. some weekends that we were eyeing were MLK Weekend in Jan or Presidents Day weekend in Feb, to give more possible options for folks who typically work on monday.

For those interested but without car means, are there train options into any of the cities listed? We should be able to do a pickup from a train/bus station.

ALSO -- i know we're not the only ones in this cool city of Louisville, if you are here and would love to meet up at Heine Bros or hang out around town, chime in too!

INDYOHKYILLIWESTVIRGINESSEE?

I like the Bastard States.

Great idea! I'm in Louisville. I'm up for coffee (beer, food...) anytime. Roadtrip is kind of "iffy" until after May.

It starting to sound like a Southern Revival might be a not awful idea sometime in the semi-distant future. I'm always making the most sense.

One day people are going to think Atlanta will be a good destination

amonkie 01-06-2008 04:43 PM

With school and gas prices, Atlanta is just a little too far a drive to do and be able to enjoy the trip - I was only able to make it to NYC once a year for the same reason :\

Stating the Bastardish...nessism of Paddy, while accurate and justified....does not indeed place him geographically within the void of bastard states.

But it would be wicked cool if he showed up...heh

I'm only about 30 minutes north of Cincy - if it's on a date I can make it, count me in. :D

amonkie 01-10-2008 12:52 PM

Dates are still open - are there any dates that WOULD work for you, shoegirl?

Is the IKEA open yet? I go to school in Columbus, but I'm going home to my parents' place this weekend. If IKEA's open.. I know where I'm going for a few hours.

Grand Opening for their West Chester store is March 12, 2008

shoegirl 01-10-2008 06:12 PM

Meetup at IKEA? :) And my dates look pretty open so far, just let me know what days you're leaning to and I'll try to clear my schedule if something comes up.

amonkie 01-11-2008 05:37 AM

If we're doing a meetup at IKEA, I'll be out of the country for the grand opening, and then the next month can be kind of hairy.

Also, in the time I started this thread I've also now got a saturday morning class which I didn't have before - once I have my first class tomorrow I will have a better idea what specific dates I can pinpoint.

And someday, people are going to notice that California isn't the only state on the west coast.

Hey now, monkie has made it out to Washington...I, unfortunately, didn't get to see her that visit. abaya has also made it to Seattle, with ktspktsp in tow.

People get out here...us PacNWers are just so laid-back we have a hard time pulling anything together. And you know it's true :D

*sigh* don't worry my state of SC is always forgotten

ottopilot 01-11-2008 03:00 PM

...but Charleston is an awesome town. I used to live in Orangeburg.

amonkie 01-11-2008 03:24 PM

You gotta be willing to get out ... that gets people more willing to come out too.

I no longer have the budget i used to (ie no rent, or very comfortable income) that allowed me to fly or afford 15 hour road trips :\ and many folks never have it period... but you don't know if you don't try!

ngdawg 01-12-2008 08:17 AM

This is what I do if I know something in the way of a roadtip is coming up:
Every time I break a 20 dollar bill, I stash at least $5 in a wooden box used just for that purpose. If you start two months or more before the anticipated trip, you can get a pretty good stash going. If that's too big a chunk, stash singles and quarters. Just gotta keep it in your head that you can not touch that money until the time of the trip.
Keep the calendar clear for the estimated time frame; if it doesn't pan out, you've got some free time and the cash to spend during it.

Dammit, I wish Florida was less full of bastards and more of just a Bastardized state. I missed the Jumpin' CarnoCow Sheshalaficious Analogous Meeting of 2005. Or 2006.
