wanted to see if anyone is up for a meetup?

im in nyc from the 13-19th december.

halx and cyth have been pencilled in. dates and place to be confirmed

anyone else interested for a meetup let us know

angelica 12-07-2007 04:27 PM

I would meet up with you guys, but I really don't know any of you. I live just across the river in NJ. But I think this is a great idea!

ubertuber 12-07-2007 04:55 PM

Angelica, as a former member of the NYC TFP crew, I think you should go. They're good folks and I bet you'd have a blast.

Take a chance and make some new friends. It's not like there's a minimum membership time before you're eligible. You're in the club already.

dlish 12-07-2007 06:42 PM

hey i may have been here a few years, some ppl here i know from a bar of soap. so it doesnt really matter how long you have been here or who u know.

we always welcome new members, and this may be the best initiation! and bearing in mind how much youve posted after only a day, you'll be feeling at home in no time!

Halx 12-07-2007 06:48 PM

Besides, who wouldn't want to meet this delicious guy?

(I swear.. I'm not saying your handle again.. ever)

QuasiMondo 12-07-2007 06:53 PM

Set a date, set a restaurant, and I'm there!

i think halx should choose the place....we'll start with a place and we'll confirm dates as we find out when ppl are available

Most of my posts have been inane "hello and thank you" responses..I am still navigating around here and making myself at home. I need to get a feel of my surroundings before I commit. Just kidding...This has been the most interesting forum I have been to since my previous home forum, and everyone has been so gracious in their welcome.

dlish 12-08-2007 09:21 AM

im sure you and your friends will fit in nicely in here...all 59 of them.. and they can all cometo the meetup too!

what was the forum that you guys left?

this is probably the best forum on the internet. the most open minded, least moderated-most looked after by moderators forum.

dunno anything about the one on 'the other side'.. but pastures are always greener here

Halx 12-08-2007 09:29 AM

I don't know if I'm the right guy to decide where to go. This is a big responsibility. WHat do we want? Food? Good food? Space?

snowy 12-08-2007 11:22 AM

You should take dlishs to that BBQ joint I've heard so much about from the NYC crew.

Yum.

Halx 12-08-2007 12:38 PM

You mean all 30 of them?

The_Jazz 12-08-2007 02:24 PM

The BBQ place is good food but very loud. Hard to talk to anyone. When I was there, poor JustJess and Cynthetiq had to listen to my droning, while the kids at the cool end of the table (Hal) got to hang loose and talk about interesting things.

Poor JJ and Cyn... :(

dlish, sorry I can't make it out there. I guess that means I'll have to find my way to the Emirates soon.

JustJess 12-08-2007 03:27 PM

I definitely want to hang out, but I have a LOT of stuff going on that week... school stuff, mostly, and finals. Let me work on my pisspoor schedule and see what I can manage - either way, keep me updated! I will try to make it out if I can. :)

And Jazz, baby, you are not boring. Because if you are, then I am, and I'm not ready to accept that possibility. :D

Cynthetiq 12-08-2007 04:25 PM

yes that place is a bit loud... food is good but loud. most of the BBQ joints are noisy for some reason.

I'm scouring the brain for suitable environs... heck, did you want something as simple as New York City pizza? Italian? Indian? Chinese?

ure welcome here anytime jazz! or anyone from tfp for that matter. . .im disappointed u cant make it... but its ok..ill show u the UAE when you get here.

cynth..heck.. if NYC pizza is as good as everyone keeps telling me it is, its definately on the menu. .

somewhere where u could hear yourself talk is fine... as long as the food is dlishs..ok that was lame..

JJ - we cant take no for an answer...so i guess you're coming!

i'll leave the place it up to you guys.

j8ear 12-08-2007 06:23 PM

Le'ts do "The Inn LW12" in the Meat Packing District.

My brother owns a small part of it and lately runs most of the day to day operation. It's a neat Canadian and British inspired gastro pub type joint. Good food, great location, neat atmosphere, and just plain great for gatherings.

Let me know, probably no special discounts or anything, aside from maybe a bottle of wine or round of shots depending on the night, but definately VIP treatment.

Get me a head count and date and time...heck I might even try and make it.

Cynthetiq 12-08-2007 06:31 PM

Interesting menu I'm game to try it:
http://menupages.com/restaurantdetai...=0&cuisineid=0

it's a bit off the beaten path... 9th and Little 12th Street

j8ear 12-08-2007 06:52 PM

Lamb Burger to die for...and if you know what a Poutine is, they definetely do the dish well, and with some interesting options too!!!!

It's right in the cobble stone triangle formed by 9th, Gaansevort, and Little "WEST" 12th...hence the The Inn "LW12." The whole meat packing district is pretty hip these days and besides the Inn there are lots of clubs, pubs, bars, resto's etc...all near by.

A haven for carnivores? Count me in!

Halx 12-09-2007 05:41 AM

Maybe we can get Manic_Skafe to come out of hiding for this one.

dlish 12-09-2007 12:04 PM

so is whats the decision?

btw, ill need some way of contacting you guys when i get there, so if halx or cyn pass on a contact number so i can call you guys when i get there. im still tossing whether i should bring my laptop or not cos i may have ainkling to download work emails while im there.. so i may not have internet access at all times.

so did we decide on the place?
wheres the best pizza in town? a family frien just told me to try the pizza in little italy.. but by the sounds of it cynth is the taste master...

Cynthetiq 12-09-2007 12:10 PM

best pizza in town... I've not started quest yet, but there is lots of places for good pizza, from the original Lombardi's in SoHo, to Ray's also in SoHo. Both are quite famous. There is John's in Greenwich Village which is the location of a Woody Allen film (I'm not a Woody fan so I can't tell you which movie it was in.)

If you want to go to Little Italy, there are some nice places we can go which give the Italian goodfella feeling. I go there too often but there are some recommendations there too.

dlish 12-12-2007 04:19 AM

hey cynth..any firm dates..or confirmation on whos coming?

im flyin out in about 15 hrs from now, so hopefully we can get a confirmation on when and where we are meeting before i leave.

look forwrad to seeing everyone soon

halx.. u wont have to use my handle.. i promise

Cynthetiq 12-12-2007 04:58 AM

Sorry, I've not been able to work on this. I have a shareholder's meeting and it is literally eating up all the spare time I have. It is tonight so tomorrow it is nothing but this for me to work on. I'll try to chat with Halx today.

okay, this has been muddy for me these past few weeks, but I'll stick a stake in the ground for this.

Monday Night Dec 17
Italian pizza/food TBD more than likely John's, Ray's or Lombardi's. Lombardi's is the pizza originator in America. I've never been there. It is coal fired pizza.

dlish 12-17-2007 07:46 AM

hey guys..this still on? im in NYC! cyth called and left a message for ya. gime a call when u can
cheers

Halx 12-17-2007 07:53 AM

See you tonight

America's First Pizzeria Est. 1905
Lombardi's opened in little Italy as a grocery store in 1897. It was established as the first pizzeria in America in 1905 with New York's issuance of the mercantile license.
Over One Hundred years of history and still recognized as one of the best.
The very best ingredients, Coal fired ovens and long lines can attest to what ZAGAT SURVEY reviewers exclaimed as "Best on the Planet" .
According to documented history, Lombardi's was the first American pizzeria. Pizza didn't gain its popularity until just after World War II, but Lombardi's, opened by Gennaro Lombardi, began selling pizza in New York City in 1905, so you might say Gennaro is the father of American pizza. Lombardi's was originally a grocery store, but it soon became a popular stop for workers looking for something to take to work for lunch. Gennaro started selling tomato pies, which were wrapped in paper and tied with a string, and the many workers of Italian descent would take them to the job site. Most could not afford the entire pie, so it was often sold by the piece. There was no set price or size, so you asked for whatever lets say 2 cents would buy and you were given portion of what was equal to the amount offered. Gennaro's son, John, took over after Gennaro passed away and the business eventually went to Genarro's grandson, Jerry. Over the years, Lombardi's continued to sell pizza, becoming a cult-like Mecca for pizza enthusiasts. In 1984, Lombardi's closed its doors. In 1994, John Brescio, who was a childhood friend of Gennaro's grandson, Jerry, started talking to Jerry about reopening Lombardi's and in that same year they did, but not in the same location. They moved a block down the street to 32 Spring Street.

but will keep an eye out for future meets.
Have fun all.

ubertuber 12-17-2007 01:09 PM

Eat some meat for me guys.

zkara 12-20-2007 09:01 AM

I ate a lot for you, spudly. Just not enough meat!
Good pizza though. Just not enough meat!
Then we went for rice pudding. But there's no meat!

:D

It was great meeting you, dlg (I finally figured out how to write your name without actually having to spell the entire length of it) :D

Cynthetiq 12-20-2007 09:15 AM

yes, there was alot of pizza, 2 18" pies, and rice pudding for desert, but not a lot of meat, just meatballs on one pie.

I've been remiss in putting up the photos that I've taken, I have to find the Chicago ones...

Definitely, you are welcome to stop by if you're in the neighborhood. ;D That would be the 2nd TFP mini-meetup in Iceland, in a year! Keep us updated.

roachboy 12-21-2007 04:23 PM
