Chicago gathering - 7/7?

OK, in this thread:

http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthread.php?t=116265

lunchbox and his girlfriend decided to come to Chicago. That seems like a good excuse to me to hold some sort of gathering. I suppose the first task is to get a show of hands as to who's both interested and available. Perhaps a few more non-Chicagoans will join us, perhaps not.

I'm flexible that entire weekend (with enough notice) and might even get The Wife to join us. I propose meeting somewhere downtown-ish for drinks then maybe going out somewhere for dinner. Personally, I like Goose Island for both, since it's easy to get to from the Red and Brown Lines and close enough to downtown for a fairly cheap cab ride ($10?). But this isn't a seizure of power, just a suggestion.

So, is it just going to be me, lunchbox, his girlfriend, roachboy and a cardboard cutout of Ustwo's avatar, or is anyone else interested?

We're always up for meet-ups. We being JJ and I....eh, I'll go ahead and speak for spec too. :)

The summer is a bit 'unplanned' for now, so we'll have to see what's happening that weeked when it gets closer.

Location doesn't matter much, as long as it's not the suburbs. We live downtown so getting around the city isn't a big deal.

We'll keep posted.

Same here. At this point, I don't know what I'll have going on then, but I should be okay with this much advanced warning.

Downtown works better for me since I take the el everywhere.

fuck, i probably won't be but possibly could be in chicago may 6th or so. apparently there's a fucking conference i'd like to attend that i thought was much later...until i checked the site after looking at this thread. but its so expensive :( hmmm...

The_Jazz 04-25-2007 05:16 AM

Piggy, May 6 is a week from Sunday. Are you sure that's the right date?

amonkie 04-25-2007 09:33 AM

If I have my usual escape crash pad .... maybe count me in too .. just gotta check on the work PTO availability and plane tickets.

Ok, I admit it .. I just want to be close enough to steal whatever Shesus has cooking in the oven :D

pig 04-25-2007 09:40 AM

jazz,

yeah, that's what i'm saying. i el fuqued up on the dates a bit...probably because i'm technically sort of in-between serious jobs currently. since no one wants to pay my conference fees, i haven't been following it. i may have to be the sneak on this one; i'd like to see what they're putting out.

mister pig: pm me if you'll be in town this next weekend.

mister jazz: might i lobby for a publick house less entirely devoted to goose island?
if you are thinking of the brewpub itself, it is right on top of a particular nowhere (that strange mall-like formation where whole foods, peet's coffee and that wretched pseudo-zen bookstore etc. are)....i would militate for the map room or some such as a place where the products given unto us by those fine trappist fellows in belgium are as available as various isle of goose products. its maybe a 10 minute stumble from the damen stop (blueline)....

the caveat is that the map room is an excellent publick house that is far too well known as an excellent publick house so tends to fill up in a kinda annoying way later at night, especially on the weekends: so perhaps a late afternoon byswing would be most functional. who knows? maybe all will be resolved by the music situation that weekend...

amonkie 04-25-2007 09:57 AM

Did someone say PEET'S COFEE!!!!?!?!?!?

Damn, I'm in. :D

/end coffee caffeine crazed interjection

RB: Personally I vote for Cody's Public House at Paulina and Barry, but that's just because I hang out there a lot (if you're ever there and get a beer in one of the "Adam's & Janet's Wedding" glasses, I stood up in that). I only suggested Goose Island because of the location and proximity to food.

I suppose that Peace Pizza is also out because of their own lack of beer choices (although I will state for the record that Baron Von Awesome's Oatmeal Stout is one of the best beer names ever).

I'm not sure about that date, however I was in Indiana Harbour, (about 2 hours south of Chicago this week) for about 35 hours. There was a casino right outside the gate of the steel plant where we were loading slag. Apparently, the whole area is scary as shit, but if I got some advance warning of when I would be there, would anyone be interested in coming down and having dinner with me at the casino? Carpooling would be the best way, as apparently taxi's from the city won't come down there!

The_Jazz 04-28-2007 11:51 AM

Lucifer, if I'm around and given enough advance notice (a week or so should be fine), I can probably make it. I'll warn you that my June is almost already full, though.

Any news on this? I would love to meet the Chicagoans on here. And I second The Map Room, ah my favorite bar.
