Lisbon, Portugal, 23rd September 2006
Hey everybody,
just thought I'd let you guys know that Lucifer, Hagatha and I will be getting together for dinner in Lisbon on Saturday the 23rd of September and I'm thinking is this possibly the 1st TFP get together across the Atlantic? Please correct me if I'm wrong. This is also my first meeting with TFPers and I'm really excited that it has become a possibility...since most of you are in the States or Canada. It's funny how I've become so attached to the TFP despite that distance! Just goes to show how the world is becoming a smaller place every day...even though every day there's millions more people being born and populating this big old world. Also to say that if anyone is in the vicinity on that day, fell free to PM me and you can come too! I promise to bring my camera and take a few pics to share with everyone who can't make it...which is probably most of you :p |
Hey menina, we are in Porto now, and were about to email you to set up the meeting. We are arrive in Lisbon on the 22nd and are staying in Lisbon at "Hotel Real Parque", and you can leave a message for us at the hotel with directions for making it to the meetup. It´s fun being back in Portugal, drinking lots of SuperBock and cafe, eating francesinhas and brushing the dust off my limited Portuguese skills. We are looking forward to seeing Lisbon. I lived in Porto for 3 years, but almost never went to Lisbon.

Be sure to take lots of photos. :D |
So here are my photos of our meet-up, we ended up getting together Friday and Saturday, these are from Friday as we didn't take any shots on Saturday!
We had a great time and it was weird but wonderful to finally meet people off the TFP. We went to dinner in an area of Lisbon called Bairro Alto that is famous for its night-life, to a Fado house. Fado is a type of song that originated in Lisbon, that talks of longing and sorrow. Usually it is accompanied by portuguese guitar. It sounds really sad and mournful and can be very beautiful. In a Fado House you have dinner while at intervals different fado singers sing for you. So this first shot is of the Fado performers, and gives an idea of the atmosphere in the restaurant: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70...pler/fado1.jpg And here we have the lovely Hagatha, who did not want to be photographed! http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70...pler/fado2.jpg And here is...our friend Grommit, out on the town and enjoying some portuguese beer! http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70...r/grommit1.jpg This is the only group shot we took, hagatha and Lucifer, and me and my date ;) http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70...pler/fado3.jpg Then we left the restaurant and headed to an Irish pub, and here is a shot we took on the way: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70...ler/store1.jpg And what is this you ask? Why it's a shop selling tennis shoes and bags...really. Bairro Alto has the quirkiest stores - hagatha originally thought it was some sort of art installation. It could have been! Gave me new ideas to do up my house :D I took this shot of Lucifer and hagatha (and Grommit) in a famous square where a lot of students hang out at night. It was a particularly interesting night because all the street lights had been covered with red paper and some parts of the city were glowing red. I have no idea why though! http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70...ler/Camoes.jpg This is Lucifer with Grommit at the pub we ended the night at: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70...ppler/pub1.jpg We had a great time and it was pretty awesome to actually meet some TFPers! Now for the next meet-up, I guess I have to come out to North America huh? |
Damn! That is just so cool.
Great to get a glimpse of Hagatha and even better to see all of your smiling faces having a good night out. Wish I could have been there... |
those are excellent and I'm glad you posted them, because mine came out terrible! Yes, for the next meetup you've got to come to Canada or the States, unless you want to hang out and wait for me to come back to Portugal in June 2008 for Sao Joao in Porto.
