I'm usually in front of the computer most of the time. Any day or time will likely work for me.

snowy 07-06-2006 01:07 PM

It is my goal to eventually host a TFP get-together at my folks place. My mother has offered the digs; it is just a matter of getting my parents and brother out of the house for a night some weekend.

When that happens, I'll let you all know.

Elphaba 07-06-2006 02:18 PM

I'm about 15 minutes from Snowy's parents, with lots of room for overnighters.

Mister Coaster 07-20-2006 01:14 PM

I'm coming to Seattle for a wedding the 18th - 22nd. If anything is happening then, I'll attampt to join up.

BTW, anyone have any praise or horror stories about the MarQueen Hotel? It looks nice online, but we have been burned in the past by places that looked good from afar.

snowy 07-21-2006 10:28 AM

Let us know more regarding your plans and maybe something can be arranged. I'm going to be up there the 18th through the 22nd for a family reunion in Bellingham, so getting together for lunch or dinner in or around the Seattle area could definitely be arranged, I think.

Elphaba 07-21-2006 03:18 PM

It looks like I am free for that weekend. Let's do it.

Mister Coaster 07-26-2006 10:30 AM

We are still a little iffy on exactly what we want to do for the wedding. It's going to be $$$ for us both to come out for that many days, and Mrs. Coaster is unsure if she wants to add the cost of her airfare and 2 extra hotel nights . I'm coming for sure, but it may only be the 18th - 20th.

If we ever lock down some specifics, I'll be sure to post.

snowy 08-11-2006 03:58 PM

Well, if anyone wants to do anything with myself and my SO, we will be available in the Seattle area Sunday evening (the 20th). I'll be driving back from Bellingham to Belfair that day/evening, so I'm sure I can meet up with someone anywhere from Everett to Tacoma (though I'd really like to keep it close to downtown Seattle or Edmonds, because I would prefer to catch a ferry). Let me know.

Elphaba 08-11-2006 05:32 PM

You know I'm good for either Belfair or Grapeview. Allyn might even work. :) If a Seattle meet is pulled together, count me and my hubby in.

Mister Coaster 08-12-2006 09:06 AM

My actual dates in town will be the 18th to the 21st, so I'm in for the night of the 20th. I'm unfamiliar with the area so if someone posts a time and place, I'll be there. Mrs. & Baby Coaster will be staying at home.

snowy 08-13-2006 08:29 AM

Does anyone have any suggestions as to a restaurant or other meeting place? Elphaba, I'm assuming you're coming off the ferry, and it's likely E. and I will be too. Is there a preference for an earlier meet time or a later meet time? E. is also vegetarian, so I have to take that into consideration.

One place I was thinking of that's great is the Pike Pub and Brewery. E. and I have been there before. It's right by the Pike Place Market (so close to the ferry) and they offer discounted parking for anyone making the drive. Coaster, I can tell you how to get here from your hotel if we decide this is where we want to meet.

Elphaba 08-13-2006 11:33 AM

Anywhere walking distance from the ferry is great for me. Given a choice, I prefer an earlier meet up time, but either way is fine.

Edit: The menu looks great!

streak_56 08-13-2006 01:58 PM

Northwest is the closest that TFP will ever get to me... so whatever day it is, I'll take some time off for a shindig.

Calgary? Wow! If you need a place to stay, pm me. Hub and I are old farts, but our room rates are cheap. :)

Mister Coaster 08-14-2006 06:14 AM

Brewpubs are all aces with me, and it's less than 2 miles from my hotel. Let's do it. I'm OK with any time, late afternoon - evening - night, I'll be there. Looks like they have lots of beers to try, so I'll take that challenge.

snowy 08-14-2006 07:53 AM

So after looking at everything (ferry schedules, bus schedules, my own schedule) it seems like we have two meeting times to choose from: 4:30 or 5:45. 4:30 works better for me, personally.

MisterCoaster, there is a bus that runs from the area of your hotel right to the brewpub. It is Bus 15. You can catch it at the corner of Queen Ave. N and Mercer: http://transit.metrokc.gov/tops/bus/...s/s015_2_.html

So shall we say 4:30pm next Sunday evening (the 20th) at Pike Brewing?

abaya 08-14-2006 08:40 AM

Hot damn, I just saw this thread. I would love to meet some of y'all... just don't know how. I'll be in Seattle for about a week, starting tomorrow. My mom is throwing a birthday dinner for me on Sunday afternoon, so I don't know if I can sneak away from that... will anyone be in town Saturday night???

snowy 08-14-2006 12:52 PM

Sorry, abaya...I'll be up on Lake Samish at Camp Lutherwood getting drunk with my extended family. :D

Hope you have a happy birthday though! :)

Mister Coaster 08-14-2006 01:02 PM

Sat is the wedding that I'm in town for, so sorry.

And actually, I'm not at the MarQueen. I'm at the Comfort Suites on Roy st. I'll have a rental car, so thats no big deal. Thanks for the heads up, however.

Don't drive if you can help it. Seattle is a very pedestrian-friendly city, and while the public transportation isn't as good as Portland's or Denver's it's still OK. From where you are, a scenic way to get around is to take the Monorail south to Westlake Center, then walk the three or so blocks west to the market and find your way from there. But there is parking in the area if you must drive, and since it's a Sunday evening, the market traffic shouldn't be too bad.

Mister Coaster 08-14-2006 06:31 PM

Monorail, eh? I'm intrigued. Is there a link to that? I don't mind walking a bit, and if parking might be a problem, avoiding it would be nice.

I'm sure the hotel will give direction, but arming myself in advance is always a good thing.

snowy 08-14-2006 11:19 PM

http://www.seattlemonorail.com/

Basically, you can catch it at Seattle Center and it goes to Westlake Center (a shopping mall). If you walk out the southern entrance of Westlake, walk one block south and then west--you will see the Pike Place Market. Head south down 1st and you'll come to Pike Brewing. :) It's a six-block walk from the monorail, in case you were wondering.

snowy 08-17-2006 11:36 AM

So I am going to be offline until Sunday because of my family reunion in the boondocks, but I will see all of you Sunday afternoon at 4:30pm at Pike Brewing on 1st Ave in Seattle.

Pen will have my number just in case!

Mister Coaster 08-17-2006 08:03 PM

I leave tomorrow AM for Seattle. See you there on Sunday.

Elphaba 08-21-2006 07:21 PM

I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Snowy, her SO, and MisterCoaster yesterday. If you want a great Seattle experience downtown, Snowy's recommendation of the Pike Brewing Co. can't be beat. World class food and some microbrews beyond compare, or so say all of the beer connoisseur's at the table. This lonely wine slut can only attest that she had little understanding regarding the quality of hop-iness for a particular brew (IPS?), and so many other distinctions. We all agreed that the best brew, wine, and champagne came from the religious orders of lonely monks. :)

MisterCoaster has the most gorgeous head of red hair that I have ever seen. (BOR would be jealous). He is also a great conversationalist and I enjoyed his description of moving recently from LA to Denver. It was his first visit to Seattle and I hope he will visit again in the future.

Ms. Snowy was everything I imagined her to be from her posts. Bright, intelligent, knowledgeable, and she has a vast background of experience to draw upon. An added pleasure was that we could also share in the small town dynamics of Mason County.

A side benefit, but an immense one to me and Mr. Elph, was how much we enjoyed the experience of good food, beverage and conversation with interesting people. It occurred to us that we haven't been out together or in a social setting since Mr. Elph's cancer surgery. So this meeting among a few very nice TFPers was the necessary motivation for us to get back out in the world that exists beyond work.

A nod to TFP for all of the wonderful people that come here, and a hug to Ms. Snowy for making a Seattle meet happen. :icare:

last minute grandbaby detail made my attendance record now 0 for 1....
will do all possible to improve that next time....any photos???

Mister Coaster 08-22-2006 06:09 AM

Yes, great meeting the 4 of y'all. And snowy's beer of choice was an IPA (India Pale Ale). Pike brewing was nice, but I have to admit, if you are not a hop lover (beer wise) then their brews are probably not your taste. Even their wheat beer had a pretty significant hop charictor. The stout was the easiest to take as it was a more complex brew that masked the hops a tad.

I managed to hit up Enchanted Villiage on Monday morning before my flight, and the Timberhawk is apretty darn nice wooden coaster. It won't quite break into my personal top 10, but it is definately the highlight of that park, and better than the wooden coasters at Magic Mountain (LA) or even Cedar Point (Sandusky) by a wide margin.

Bobby, nope, no shutterbugs in the crowd. I was attempting to travel light and I knew my friends that I was meeting at the wedding would have that covered, so I didn't bring mine.

Mister Coaster 08-22-2006 06:09 AM

Ok, so here are three events I am planning.

1. Mini Golf tomorrow at 6PM at Interbay Golf on 15th in Magnolia.

2. Rollerskating at Skate King at 7PM Sept 18th in Bellevue.

3. My birthday bowling at Imperial Lanes at 9:30PM to midnight. $1.75 a game. Shoes extra. Pirate theme cake and eye patches for silly bowling. Might do 8 pin bowling as well.

All are welcome to these and bring as many guests as you like. (^:

ciao,

streak_56 09-24-2006 08:15 PM

okay... we need to have like a contact list of people who would like to come... because I really need to get out. And we also need to have one planned out in advance far enough that I can get time off.

sadistikdreams 09-25-2006 08:59 PM

I don't know about a formal, or even informal get together, but if you want to meet me, I'm going to be volunteering at the Bodies Exhibit every weekend until it ends.

If you don't know what Bodies is, it's a exhibit of, well... Bodies. Perfectly preserved and displayed, it's a gallery of real live bodies, and all the different parts and systems.

Here's the website:
http://www.bodiestheexhibition.com/bodies.html

I don't know exactly when I'll be starting, maybe three weekends from now. But if y'all wanna meet up, we can all meet eachother, and learn something in the process. Or like I said earlier, you can just come and meet me. I'm pretty sure we'll have nametags, so look for the (very handsome, very young looking, very narcsissistic) fella walking around in a labcoat named Dom. That'll be me.
