Top 3 Anime Series!

Just wanna know everyone's top 3 Anime Series are and why.

Mine'd have to be

- Cowboy Bebop - It's east meets west, Anime done in really western style, music, characters.. setting I guess. Think of it as a Space Western, and It's totally brilliant.

- Hellsing - Alucard's pretty much the most badass character.. ever. There are issues with Seras not being awesome enough, but in my opinion she's kinda like badass relief.. it'd be too much without her.. God knows how I'll make it through Hellsing Ultimate when that gets released '06 or '07.

- Samurai Champloo - Hailed as the spiritual successor to Cowboy Bebop.. totally awesome random adventures of useless girl Fuu and her 2 samurai companions.. Who don't actually want to be there.

Honorable Mentions

Azumanga Daioh - Absolutely adorable.. Seriously give it a watch, cos it'll bring back those high school memories.

Rurouni Kenshin the OVA. The first one, not the second one about his dumbass kid who climbs up onto a roof and can't get off. It takes a very nice turn away from the series and describes quite a bit of information I wanted to know aside from the scar.

Can't think of anything else that particularly impressed me off the top of my head. That's what happens when you've seen too much.

BTW, there's a new Hellsing coming out? All I wanted more out of the series were some OVAs telling me how the hell Alucard got captured and tamed in the first place.

MooseMan3000 11-03-2005 05:21 PM

Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo are awesome. I haven't seen enough to say whether they're in fact the best, but out of the ones I have watched, they were my favorites. They were closely followed by Rorouni Kenshin. Also, while I havn't seen any of the actual series, the Ninja Scroll movie was fairly excellent.

Kadath 11-03-2005 05:39 PM

Bebop, Trigun, RahXephon. Series that made me cry at one point or another.

sadistikdreams 11-03-2005 07:19 PM

Fooly Cooly. Cowboy Bebop. And Tenchi Universe.

Man, I "grew" up on Tenchi, metaphorically speaking.

I never understood why people liked this so much. Was I watching the same movie?

We are talking about that movie where Jubei goes off with some ninja girl to kill a bunch of weird powered people, the first being a rock man?

Etarip 11-03-2005 08:33 PM

You can't forget Full Metal Panic, the second season was awesome. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, my favorite best anime ever. Heh, and Legend of Galatic Heros just for it's sheer epic nature.

Absolutely. Great story, bad-assed main character, and it's just fun to watch.

asaris 11-04-2005 06:52 AM

Bebop, Nadesico, and Boogiepop Phantom. Nadesico is probably my favorite, it's the only anime I've seen that actually gets better over the course of the series!

djflish 11-04-2005 07:20 AM

I haven't watched anime for a long time, but for me it would have to be
Fist of the North Star
Legend of the 4 Kings
And erm..... Guyver?
Actually, they're the only 3 I can think of that I've ever watched

Mantus 11-04-2005 07:45 AM

Aside from the notworthy mentions,

FLCL <- is awsome!

His and Her Circumstances is very well done and a good ceries to see with a gf.

ICER 11-04-2005 08:26 AM

Is anybody waiting for the new series to hit Cartoon Network this Saturday (11-05-05) called IGPX? it looks pretty KICK (as my new roomie puts it)

RAGEAngel9 11-04-2005 08:31 AM

I've really gotten into Full Metal Alchemist lately. At first, I thought it was too kiddy, but now I love it.

cellophanedeity 11-04-2005 08:54 AM

Serial Experiments Lain!

I'm also enjoying Love Hina and Chobits... silly girly anime.

I once watched seven hours of Fushugi Yugi (I don't know how to spell it, sorry) in a row. My poor head was going to murder me.

asaris 11-04-2005 12:05 PM

Serial Experiments Lain is quite good, but you might want to check out Boogiepop. It's got a similar style/atmosphere to it, but I think it hangs together a bit better as far as plot goes.

Lak 11-04-2005 03:52 PM

Serial Experiments Lain - like a fractal, infinitely intricate
Cowboy Bebop - styles upon styles
Last Exile - coolest graphics ever

Hellsing - if Victoria wasn't such a reej, this'd totally be number 3

Honorable mention to RahXephon <font size=-2>coughAzumanga<font size=-3>Daioh<font size=-4>cougherhem

What about the Paladin Alexander Anderson? That guy was a machine!

I think I liked his character slightly more than Alucard.

RogueHunter65 11-04-2005 10:08 PM

TriGun - Wolfwood is my favorite anime character of all time.

Cowboy Bepop - The perfect blend of action and jazz

Escaflowne - Probably the most storyline driven anime I have seen. I would say it is worth seeing at least once.

MiSo 11-05-2005 06:44 AM

Top three currently running:

Naruto
Bleach
Mar

Top 3 Classics:
Dragon Ball Series

Enjoy 22 more weeks of filler

Seriously though. What the heck. Twenty two goddam weeks. The manga is already years ahead of the series. Get the damn series back on track! /threadjack

KellyC 11-05-2005 08:36 PM

Neon Genesis Evangelion - I like how fucked up all the characters are, makes me feel good about myself. :D

Hikaru No Go - apart from the ghost, IMO, it's the anime that's closest to reality that I've ever seen. And the way they can make something so simple like playing Go interesting and intense speaks volumes about their ability to tell a story. Plus You can see the characters gradually grow as the story progresses AND they actually change clothes everyday!!!

Doremon - grew up reading and watching this anime. How I wish I have a friend like Doremon....

Good point. I know LOTS of people that hated the characters for that exact reason, they were messed up. A lot of people (myself included to be fair) kept saying "Jeez, Shinji is such a pussy". But let's be honest, who among us can say that they'd be totally ok with going from a normal kid to saving the city/world.

I also love the fucked up ending  Almost as confusing as Lain :D

Spektr 11-05-2005 11:46 PM

Berserk. Seriously, people need to watch this damn show!

Reese 11-06-2005 12:24 AM

Record of Lodoss War - This is one of the first anime series that I watched and it was an instant favorite as soon as I saw Ashram.
Gundam Wing - I'd seen some of the older Gundam series and they really didn't interest me much, Gundam wing just seemed to have much cooler suits.

I don't really have a 3rd favorite, Trigrun was good, Cowboy Bebop was good, there's a few others but.. none seem to match my 2 favorites.

Which for the most part seemed to be stolen from other Gundam series.

Seems that Gundam is all about reusing the old stuff

ObieX 11-06-2005 01:00 AM

Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell are the only ones i've seen in detail. And they're both great. The graphic detail in the ghost in the shell movies is fantastic (beats the hell out of the series)

Dragonknight 11-06-2005 01:43 AM

I'd deffinately have to go with Berserk as number one for me. I also liked Cowboy Bebop. Haven't really sean a third, but I'm thinking about getting Hellsing.

Well it does make sense that they'd be very influenced by the previous gundams.

tec-9-7 11-06-2005 12:31 PM

As I am a total car-guy, I'll throw out Initial D. Even tho the series has driven prices for AE86s to unreasonable levels, I thoroughly enjoyed the series.

skier 11-06-2005 09:11 PM

Hajime no ippo!

Totally got sucked into this boxing series. There was this one episode though where he's to proclaim his love to the girl. So awesome.

carrot glace 11-11-2005 12:12 AM

love hina- best combination of comedy and that lovey dovey stuff that i dont want to admit exists in my life.

berserk- for the action, for bloody bloody action. and a little storyline to pull it all together.

dragon ball z- for being there on tv and spawning more and more fans to add to the anime loving community. my goku's are fried on brain. o_O

Da Munk 11-11-2005 01:03 AM

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and 2nd GIG
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Juuni Kokuki

And while it might not be one of the greatest anime series of all time, I would reccomend checking out Genshiken for a humorous look into the otaku subculture.

Furry 11-11-2005 02:10 AM

I'm going to have to split this into 2 sections: serious and non-serious.

Serious:

GITS
Cowboy Bebop.
Evangelion (Although I actually prefer RahZephon)

Mad/Insane

FLCL
Excel Saga
Love Hina.

Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu gets my honorable mention. There's nothing quite as funny as a mascot suit running around with a baton launcher going "Fumo!" all the time...

MiSo 11-11-2005 02:36 AM

can't believe i forgot to mention Hikaru no Go.
the anime/manga was unbelievably awesome.

nukeu666 11-11-2005 04:58 AM

cowboy bebop
berserk(if the ending of the anime isnt couted)
azumanga daioh....real funny humor...not quite comedy...catchy ost also

honourable mentions

juuni kokki(12 kingdoms)
one piece
hikaru no go
hellsing
trigun
bleach
last exile

777 11-11-2005 08:14 AM

ALL HAIL GAINAX

Evangelion

FLCL

His and Her's Circumstances

liquidlight 11-11-2005 08:21 AM

Anybody else ever watch Vandread? Aside from that FLCL is great, Trigun, Hellsing, and Full Metal Panic, though to pick just three would be quite the feat for me.

MPower 11-11-2005 01:46 PM

Only ones Ive ever seen are Bebop and Robotech so they get my vote.

And Reboot, but I dont believe it counts.

Johnny Pyro 11-11-2005 06:15 PM

Cowboy Bebop
Dragon Ball Z
Berserk

Especially Berserk. I couldn't stop watching it!

Furry 11-12-2005 03:21 PM

You're right, REBOOT doesn't count.... *Shudder*
