I thought Harry was already used as a horcrux at the end of GOF...

nah,

that wasn't as a Horcrux...

that was just "blood of my enemy"

it was part of a spell.

I’ve been reading through the books since it’s going to be a while before the next comes out, and I’ve started to wonder about something… Dumbledore’s trading card touts that he “defeated” a dark wizard years back.

If defeated means killed, then wouldn’t he also be able to create a horcrux? In fact, wouldn’t he choose to do so after he learned that Malfoy was given the task to kill him? If he did indeed create a horcrux, I would bet he placed it in Fawkes, since Fawkes is immortal. DD and Fawkes have always had a kind holy duality thing going on. Maybe he created a horcrux out of Fawkes years ago.

Additionally, that makes me wonder about Wormtail, since he was actually the one who killed Cedric, and some others. But he may not know how to do it. Dumbledore does, because he knows all the dark magic.

I doubt it. Horcruxes are just too evil. I take that "defeated" is merely: subdued, caught and sent to Azkaban.

My theories...

Dumbledore is A: Dead, but left behind some secret info for Harry to decode.
B: Dead, with some Obi Kenobi communication powers.
C: Alive thanks to a faked death

I think B would be the least satisfying.

I've just reread HBP, and I have a few tidbits to add.

Someone mentioned earlier that you really have to mean it when you use the AK spell. I don't think Snape would really have had to fully mean it for it to be effective, ad DD is already very weak from drinking all the potion to get the locket. Also, it's so not DD to suddenly start begging for help in front of Draco and the two other Death Eaters that were there with them. DD was really asking, IMO, for Snape to kill him rather than Draco, which in my mind means Snape really *is* loyal to DD and will be playing a part in bringing Voldemort down.

I also agree with him giving Harry "advice" instead of killing him outright when Snape was fleeing the castle, I didn't really pick up on that the first time around.

Harry simply can't be a horocrux because Snape has continuely tried to kill him in many different forms. He wouldn't be so callous with something that protects his very being

I wasnt sure whether to start a new thread on this or not (and with the search being all wonky I couldnt find if there was one already on book 7...a search for "snape" brought up only two threads including the tilted bug thread for the new upgrade lol)

anyway, Rowling did an interview today about book 7 incase any one is interested

Quote:
During an interview broadcast Monday on Britain's Channel Four, Rowling revealed that at least two characters will buy it but was careful not to say who.

The author also noted that the last chapter of the seventh book was written awhile ago.

"The final chapter is hidden away, although it's now changed very slightly," she said in the interview. "One character got a reprieve, but I have to say two die that I didn't intend to die."

Rowling added: "No, I'm not going to commit myself, because I don't want the hate mail or anything else."

Mysteriously, Rowling then no doubt generated a small avalanche of angry letters by insinuating that not even her hero is safe in the seventh book.

http://www.accessatlanta.com/enterta...627lvbuzz.html

"I've never been tempted to kill him (Harry) off before the end of book seven, because I always planned seven books and that's where I want to go. I can completely understand, however, the mentality of an author who thinks 'Well, I'm going to kill them off because that means there can be no non-author-written sequels ... so it will end with me, and after I'm dead and gone they won't be able to bring back the character.' "

I can't believe how much time I spent composing this post.

Here are my candidates:

IMHO, none of the remaining Hogwarts staff really rate a spectacular death. Rowling could always knock off one of the minor student characters like Cho Chang or Luna Lovegood, but that would be too easy and not carry much weight. Cedric Diggory's death was shocking but perfunctory. Their fates usually involve magic comas and such, so I think any death would have to fall closer to Harry.

My first thought was either Snape or Malfoy through some redeeming and heroic act. Think Darth Vader throwing the Emperor down that shaft at the end of Return of the Jedi. Snape's true allegience will definitely be in play, but the greater moral struggle belongs to Malfoy; Harry's secondary nemisis.
He'll have to defy his father and his house, but I predict Harry will bring him around to the good side through an act of forgiveness or mercy. Reborn, He'll be primed to make the ulitmate sacrifice.

I keep flip flopping between those two, but it won't be both.

I think Hermione and Ron are off the hook because their romance arc is far from finished.

My third possiblity is Neville Longbottom. He has slowly been rebuilding his dignity over the course of the series, and his parents were killed just like Harry's. I'd say he's ripe for a tragi-heroic guesture. Go Neville.

Ginny is certainly game given Harry's feelings for her. I can definitely see Voldemort capturing her and forcing Harry to choose her life for high stakes. Harry gets his magic strength from his capacity to love, so her peril is assured. Whether she or Harry goes depends on J. K. Rowling's capacity for a happy ending. I'm 50/50

It would be great if Rowling decided to kill off every single character in the biggest wizarding world battle, like, "Wizard War IIIVIVIV: The Last Battle", but I am sure is not that is not going to happen.

If Ms. Rowling likes it or not someone will always be able to bring Harry back. At the last split second he transfigured himself into a dust mite and lived or some sort. I feel that from what she said at her interview that she is going to commit literary suicide. The madness that she is talking will make a goodly portion of her avid readers.... well, HATE her. At that point she wouldnt make much money on any possible future novels.

I dunno, only time will tell I suppose... but she needs to get that last book written and they need to get those dagnabbit movies made... Maggie Smith isnt getting any younger yanno!

You are correct, but why settle for one claim to fame when she has such a brilliant mind and could do many more great things and write many more great novels?

She's still leaving the door open for Harry to come back assuming he's killed. Doyle pulled it off with Sherlock Holmes. Even assuming everyone hates her, if she writes an 8th book, I guarantee people will buy it in droves

Just re-read the book and I have to say:

On the note that the fourth type of portrait (the utility one); perhaps the subdued portrait of dumbledore refuses to speak because it is just that, a utility portrait of dumbledore that allows access to him from Hogwarts.

I think that Harry being a horcrux is a wonderful theroy, although I disagree also. I think that the scar could easily be a horcrux, and therefore would mean his death would be Voldemore's.

How come no one has spent any time talking about the fake horcrux and who took it? I have been racking my brain as to who it could be and I think the only thing I have come up with is R.S.B. (Regulas Black; Sirus Brother) I know two things (like his death and the fact that harry recieved grimwauld and not him say otherwise) but I have a feeling that he is doing this because he wants to fix the fact that his brother was killed by death eaters.

Any comments?

After reading book 6, I think for sure Neville will die. It hinted at when Dumbledore had heard that the child would be born at the end of July (Neville or Harry) would defeat Voldemort. They never did figure out which. As sorry as i would be to see him die, I would rather see him go than Harry.

Ok... can this evil wench write faster already?!?!

This just found...

One candidate release date for the seventh book has been July 7, 2007 (07/07/07), based on the supposedly strong magical properties (and recurring themes) of the number seven in the Harry Potter universe.[3] Yet a release date of July 7 may be avoided, along with the accompanying media attention and release parties, out of respect for the anniversary of the 7 July 2005 London bombings. This date would also coincide with the release of the fifth movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, currently scheduled to be released into theatres on Friday July 13, 2007.
