Rome

Anyone seen previews for the new HBO series that starts this Sunday night? :) Any thoughts on it? The previews I saw made it seem pretty intriguing to me, I'm a bit of a historical fiction junkie. However, I've only read one review on it, and it didn't get too much good said about it. :( I set my TiVo already so I can at least form an opinion of my own, I'm hoping the critic and I disagree. :D

Anyone else have any interest in it, or even know what I'm talking about? :o

Yes I both know what you are talking about and have interest in watching it.

Haven't really seen too much preview wise, but after, sex and the City, Oz, Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Deadwood, Entourage, Mind of a Married Man, Dream On ( all that come to mind right now), I will watch it in great hopes that it will be half as good as most of those.Which would still be very good.

Is this a great time to have a TV or what.. plus we finally just got HBO HD up here in Anchorage... now if we could get some local channels.. grrrrrrrr.

Looks good on the previews, hopefully will live up to them.

A friend of mine works for HBO, so she's already seen a preview. She says that it actually looks pretty good, and has already Tivo'd it... since she's not a pushover, I'm willing to bet it's pretty good. :D
I have it Tivo'd too....

Read a great deal in the paper this week -- Comcast OnDemand has some infotainment on the show.

My friend works for HBO so I saw the first episode. I wasn't really impressed...it didn't grab me the way other HBO original programming has done. He had episodes 2 and 3 and I didn't bother to watch them either.

I'll probably Tivo it and rewatch...I usually don't like to form an opinion on a show until I've seen it twice.

Catdaddy33 09-02-2005 03:29 AM

I watched it the other night and it was pretty good, I'll give it a few episodes to get going. There are so many characters it takes a bit to catch on to who's who and who's doing what.

I had the same reaction to Deadwood, it took a couple of episodes for me to get into it. Now Deadwood is my fav show..

JustJess 09-02-2005 05:03 AM

I did watch the premiere... and spaced out in the middle, not bothering to finish. It's on the Tivo, so I'll give it another shot, but I was not overly impressed. A lot of assumed knowledge, which even if you have that, it STILL wasn't all that interesting. I dunno.

This is certainly not up to the standards of The Sopranos or Six Feet Under. Its rather dry and dull. Its unfortunate. I can only hope and pray that Extras is better than this

guthmund 09-06-2005 07:19 AM

Two episodes in and I think it's going to be alright. It's still a bit dry, but it looks like it's going to get better.

spoiler: Spoiler: Did you see Titus Pullo stab that guy through the throat at the bar? That was great. I thought that was going to be the highlight of the episode until the doctor started drilling into his head.

Started kind of slow for me, but the more i watch the more I like, ohh not to give spoilers but episode 3 is great

spongy 09-18-2005 06:38 PM

Watched all 3 episodes today.. and I like it more the more I watch.. cant' wait for tonight's ep4

Spektr 09-18-2005 08:10 PM

Tonight's episode was killer. Definitely got me hooked, but Weeds is still better.

spongy 09-19-2005 08:31 PM

Wow, olitics at it's best.. to see the wheels turning between Caesar and Pompey is great. Another thing I enjoy is seeing things i thought were modern. Lucius used a claw hammer to put up Caesar's proclamation, and I would have guessed that was a couple of hundred years old at best.

guthmund 09-20-2005 07:34 AM

The more I see of this show, the more I like it.

Just a few thoughts...

The political manuevering between Pompey and Caesar is enthralling.
Caesar's niece, Atia (Polly Walker) is one stone cold chick
This last episode didn't have near enough Pullo in it for my tastes.

Delirious 10-11-2005 06:04 PM

The last two episodes were boring and I stopped watching it :(

spongy 10-12-2005 07:05 PM

I particularly liked the raft-o-corpses. That kinda rocked.

aswo 10-20-2005 12:52 PM

definetly cool, and i should mention i quite fancy lucios veranus's wife nairobi

guthmund 10-20-2005 02:42 PM

The woman who plays Niobe, Indira Varma was in a movie about 10 years ago called Kama Sutra: A tale of love.

There are quite a few excellent pictures of her floating around out there, if you care to find them. ;)
