Twin Peaks

Having missed out on the Twin Peaks phenomenon when the show initially aired in early 1990 (I was 15), I bought the 1st season DVD set about a year ago and I finally got around to watching it. Lo and behold, the pilot episode was not included with the set because a different company owned the distribution rights. I downloaded the pilot episode and watched it and the 7 episodes of season 1 on my DVD set and love the show. Unfortunately, even though the season 1 set came out on DVD 4 years ago, they currently have no plans to release the 2nd season set since the first season sold so poorly.

But I'm definitely hooked. I really missed out when this show first aired. I might have to pony up the cash for the VHS tapes on ebay so I can see the rest (I can't find any active torrents for the 2nd season). I'm really itchin to find out who killed Laura Palmer and find out answers to a lot of other events of season 1.

Anyone else love this show?

as did i ... it was around the time of the start of my long-term dislike of the television ...

but, i still haven't hooked myself yet, but it's been on the To-Do list for a while.

I believe I have the complete series ... just waiting for me to have the time to give it some attention.

eh, not much point of my post then, is there?

i guess it's just a roundabout way of saying 'cool thread'

When Twin Peaks first aired, I was absolutely hooked. It was spooky, unpredictable, adult and totaly enthralling; better than anything else on TV.

On the evening of the 1st season finale, I even brushed off my best friend to stay home and watch it. He was incredulous.

What you might not realize, is that the 1st season finale was advertised as a conclusion. The details are a bit foggy, but I remember screaming at the TV when it ended without answering those crucial questions. There had been a huge media build-up and like me, most viewers expecting to be rewarded with a revelation felt betrayed by the bait and switch.

By the time the suprise 2nd season rolled around, the momentum had been lost and few stuck around to see how it all panned out. I imagine that's the real reason it was never released on DVD etc. Who would want it?

The movie prequel 'Fire; Walk With Me' then bombed and the franchise was deader than Laura P. herself.

I think the same thing happened with X-files. It built up so many complicated story threads and continuity arcs, that the story got muddled and lost its hook. Viewers were denied a satisfying conclusion.

Woe to 'Lost' if it goes down the same path.

Twin Peaks made TV history, and by all means track down that 2nd season. But be forewarned that it may not meet your expectations.

I agree. That 1st season was damn good TV

The first several episodes of the second season rock about as hard as the first season eps do. Once you get into the whole "Save the Pine Weasel" subplot, it's officially jumped the early shark.

The actual finale episode was effing brilliant, though, as were the episodes leading up to it. It got dark and scary and mysterious again as the series drew to a close, after several episodes of comic relief and silliness.

It looks like the 2nd season DVD may be released late this year or early next year. The rights supposedly revert back to Paramount in Sep. 2005. There has been a small army of Twin Peaks fans following the slow progress. Apparently the delay is because of a hang up over the rights.

Twin Peaks - It sounds like we're finally making progress!

1/10/2005

The last time TVShowsOnDVD had a Twin Peaks update was at the end of October, when we passed on Lynchnet.com's report that we're likely to see Paramount release the second season of the show in late-2005 (supposedly in September, according to a 2003 rumor report, which is when the rights are supposed to revert back to Paramount in their entirety {NOTE: in that report we quoted they said "2004", when the rights actually revert in 2005}).

At the time of this new October rumor, we asked Paramount for a comment, and they simply replied that nothing was on the schedule...yet. From what we know of the Paramount official schedule, it's still Peaks-less at the moment, but that might only mean a specific date hasn't been chosen. New evidence has recently surfaced that this item is being worked on, and we have a Home Theater Forum reader, Mark Wilson, to thank for the heads-up on this.

Extras aren't always a part of TV-on-DVD releases, but sometimes you can pretty much count on them for certain releases. Twin Peaks - Season 2 would be as close to a no-brainer for needing bonus material as you get, given the high level of fan anticipation for this title! And it looks like Paramount is delivering, with none other than Lancelot Narayan, the producer who brought supplements to such awesome Paramount releases as Once Upon a Time in the Old West and the remake of The Italian Job.

Another slick new DVD in the works for Paramount is a special collector's edition of the film Event Horizon, and Narayan is also working on that release. In an online discussion at the IMDB (Internet Movie DataBase) message boards for Event Horizon, where the new DVD (tentatively scheduled for October 2005 in North America) is being discussed, Narayan made a side-remark that had to do with Twin Peaks:

I'm currently pulling my hair out working on the Extras for Season 2 of 'Twin Peaks'. If it's at all possible, 'Peaks' fans are more exacting than Trekers [sic]! I really want everybody that buys it when it comes out to be happy. In the end, you can only do your best.

Thanks for the info about the pending release of the 2nd season. Ironically, that same TVShowsonDVD site is where I found the info that there were no plans to release the 2nd season. I found the page with a Google search. The page I hit must've been an older one from a couple of years ago.

As far as the Fire Walk With Me movie, I'd seen bits of it on cable back in the early to mid 90s, but of course I was kind of clueless since I hadn't seen any of the earlier Twin Peaks stuff. I can't remember much of it. Is it any good? I know I'm gonna watch it after I watch season 2 anyways, but I was just curious.

Fire Walk With Me was kind of Twin Peaks in a nutshell.. It was good television,a nd I don't regret owning the DVD -- but for a TP fan - it's missing too much back story...

I am so looking forward to Season 2 - -I had pretty much given up hope on this...

Oh, that SO rocks. I just hope lurkette doesn't see this thread so I can surprise her with it for her birthday in September!

Incidentally, the killer's identity is revealed in episode 4 or 5 of the second season. The whole Who Killed Laura plot arc wraps up right about then.

Yeah, thought I'd read that it was pretty early in the second season. Also read some comments somewhere that it seemed to go kind of downhill (in terms of story at least) once that fact is revealed. I still can't wait to see more.

I too missed the initial phenomenon. But I saw the whole first season in a marathon session over the course of one night. That stuff was more addictive than crack.

I guess I was about 13 or 14 when Twin Peaks was on TV - I jumped in a little late, probably at the end of the first season, but watched Season 2 religiously. I followed it up until they fully resolved both who killed Laura and a bit more about Bob. I think the last full episode I watched was the one where it ended with Bob taking over an owl, flying into the night. Once they added Windom Earle to the show, I just lost interest.

But for a period of time there, it was my favorite show. I lost many, many nights of sleep after watching Twin Peaks. Bob scared the shit out of me.

I finally did a good thing and watched the first season of this. If I knew I would have enjoyed it so much, I would have watched it years ago. Who shot Agent Cooper? Who? (Don't tell me.)

Was the second season released on video? I have not much patience for the studio wrangling over releasing it. Now! I want it now!

All the episodes are available on VHS. You'll probably pay a premium for them on ebay though until they get released on DVD. My locally-owned video store has all the tapes and I've worked my way through them. A few summers ago my friends and me met every Wednesday to watch three episodes or so. It was like a little club, great fun. The later episodes indeed start to lag behind in quality. The network was pressuring Lynch to solve the mystery, something that runs counter to the spirit of the series as well as Lynch in general, if you know anything about him.

I loved it all, saw them all, and have them taped (somewhere in my moms house). Wish he finished the series properly, but he was rushed at the end.

Ever few years bravo (I think it is) re-airs the show.

Funny for me to look back and see that comment from me when the truth of the matter is that I downloaded all of the 2nd season off emule probably about 10 weeks ago and still have only watched probably half of the 1st episode of the 2nd season. I need to get my butt in gear and watch them (and then rent Fire Walk With Me which I saw parts of a long time ago and was clueless since I hadn't seen Twin Peaks at that point; the stuff I've read indicates the movie won't be too good).

Remastered Twin Peaks Season 2 DVD Set in 2006
Director David Lynch News Genre : DVD / TV News Drama Movie News

Even after being off the air for well over a decade Twin Peaks has lost none of its quirky and queasy power to get under your skin and haunt your dreams. This show is addictively wicked. It is a series you would need to watch from the very start to follow the complicated twists and turns in the plot.

TVShowsonDVD reports that the David Lynch site dugpa.com received the following information on new transfers for Twin Peaks Season 2.

Paramount has decided to go with video transfers for Twin Peaks: Season 2 DVD set. It appears that the information I had received from Paramount Germany was old information, as they planned to release the information as their own shortly after their their release of Season 1 on DVD. Now that Paramount is doing a worldwide release, all territories under the Paramount branch will be using the same transfers for the Season 2 box set. Great news indeed!!! Now we'll have to wait to see if the new transfer is up to the same quality as the Season 1 set.

Those fans who are dying for the Season 2 DVD set to be released, will have to wait till the Spring of 2006. The reason for the delay is to work with David Lynch to oversee these transfer of new masters. At least it will be done right, which is by far the most important thing.

Twin Peaks is about the investigation into the murder of local girl Laura Palmer. As the story unfolds it becomes apparent that no one is as they appear in this town (and that includes eccentric FBI investigator, Agent Dale Cooper).

To say the characters are quirky is putting it mildly, it may be more accurate to say they are verging on the insane which certainly makes it impossible to figure out who the murderer is ... most of the population of Twin Peaks have secrets they don't want exposed.

This series became cult viewing in the 90's and it is easy to see why. David Lynch has produced a masterpiece that dares to be different and makes no apology for it. Brilliant, bizarre, funny, moving, it will make you laugh and cry.

That is good news!

I was only 9 or so when this was out, and although my sister watched the series at the time, i never really saw any of it, let alone was old enough to appreciate it. I've seen series 1, but couldn't find series 2 anywhere until now. Nice

I saw it a few years ago when some cable channel was rerunning the series. I was so addicted, I went out and watched everything by David Lynch. I think it messed me up a little. I think I want to watch it again 'cause I can only remember pieces of it...like a dream...didn't someone carry a log around? the midget...the curtain...
Fire Walk With Me was way out there...I really dug it.
