The Machinist
Go out and watch it. Great movie, his weight is a little distracting. You will gasp or look on in shock more than a few times throughout the movie. He looks like a concentration camp victim. His looks aside it was a really good movie. **edited** I agree with you sleepy
Here are a couple of pictures of him from the movie: A little about the plot: THE MACHINIST is the story of Trevor Reznik, a machinist who hasn’t slept in over a year. Working in a machine shop, Trevor faces the usual occupational hazards, yet his extreme fatigue only makes them worse, causing him to accidentally cut off a co-worker’s hand. What Trevor suffers from clearly isn’t a typical case of insomnia… (<---taken from amazon.com) Last edited by Xiangsu; 06-08-2005 at 10:29 AM.. |

Yeah, saw this film a few months ago and loved it. Christian Bale looked so wonderfully disturbing and creepy in the film.
It's not for everyone though - the film is quite the slow burner, moving along at quite a slow pace. The storyline sort of takes back seat, as this film is more about tone and generating an atmosphere -which it does in spades. The photography and the music manage this wonderfully.

Yeah, i noticed this just got released in Australia, although i saw a pirate version of it a few months ago because i thought it'd never come out commercially.
I really enjoyed it and found it quite unnerving, mainly through seeing Bale so malnourished and fatigued; especially after him being the beefy arrogant narcissist in American Physco! Although i recommended seeing the movie without reading too much into it! Spoiler: Nowadays, when movies are compared to other movies with significant twists - namely character idenitities not appearing as they actually are eg fight club, memento, mulholland drive - it sorta ruins the movie and creates some bullshit expectations for it. try to see it without reading too much -with a clean slate! |

I saw it some months ago without knowing anything more about it than that Christian Bale was in it, and he was really skinny. What a ride! I don't think I've been so drawn into a movie for a very long time. The balance between character and plot development was perfect, and the atmosphere awesome. Very insomniac-like.

I'm actually too scared to watch it... I think Bale is stunning and seeing him like that is quite horrific... I saw the trailer for this film some time ago and LOVED what I saw but even so... god... it's just off-putting... and I've got a high tolerance for most all disturbing things.

I just recently saw it and I thought it was pretty good. Seeing Bale skinny and weird-like was odd but at least he buffed back up for Batman Begins lol.
Until we meet again. . .

When I had rented it I had heard nothing about it but noticed Bale was in it and thought it'd be good. I was actually really impressed, I like finding a really good movie that isn't very well known. Plus, it has Michael Ironside in it, which I found to be a pleasant surprise. |
