Star Wars III - Anyone else underwhelmed?
So I went to see it recently and the main feeling I had when leaving the cinema was "Wow... I must be growing up because I didn't get all excited in that movie".
Anyone else feel underwhelmed about the film? It has positive points. 1) Much fewer silly childish clowning around. Though it's still there, with the droids acting like cartoon goofballs. 2) Darker feel to it 3) Above all, the final 5 minutes were cool. But I had to wait almost two hours for that. It had plenty of negative points 1) Silly childish droids 2) General Grevious - WTF? 3) Wookies 4) Jar Jar Binks, even if he didn't say anything Overall, I'd score it 6.5 out of 10. Mr Mephisto |
Nope, not underwhelmed. I loved it. I have a much higher tolerance when it comes to Star Wars though. I let my cynical judgement be clouded- in fact, I count on it. I wouldn't enjoy anything if I didn't.

Meph, I thought the same thing with I and II. I've certainly lost some sense of wonder over movies, but I did enjoy this one. More than expected. Not that it was free of issues, but it made me smile & consider seeing it again where the last two nearly put me to sleep.

This flick was deep!
Just literally got back from seeing it. I loved it. They're right. It was darker than the other two. I liked the fact that it provided a little bit of closeure to the series. IT's too bad that there are major time gaps between movies though. The twins are babies in this one and in epsoide four they're what in their 20's or maybe 30's? Overall, an 8 out of 10 |
Yep, I was quite underwhelmed as well. The romantic scenes in the movie actually made me laugh out loud. The whole transition to Darth Vader and the dark side was so superficial. Agree with the stuff on General Grievous too.

I found it very lacking myself. I think it might have been because i was expecting more, and it didn't deliver. When i watch it again, once it hits dvd, i may change my opinion for the better, but as it stands now, i thought it was lacking.
Some of the fight scenes were cool, and had a nice oooh and ahh with the effects, but plot and the transition was very weak. I also found alot of the "deep" stuff that some people refering to as very cheesy, and not deep at all. A couple times, i found myself wondering how much time was left before it was over so i could theatre hop into something else to get my monies worth for the evening! I also didn't like the last 30 minutes where random plot connections were wrapped up, that shit should have been developed throughout... it was almost like they were like "ahh shit, thats right, we need to tie this to the next episode -- make it all work now before its over". So yeah, i was disapointed. There were two movies i was excited about this summer, EP3 has been a let down, i just can't wait for september now, and hope that serenity comes through with as much kickass'ness as im hoping for. |
