I'm going to the midnight show of this movie tonight You had better believe I'll be posting a review as soon as I get home, so keep your eyes peeled. I'm so incredibly stoked.

I'm really looking forward to this movie partially because it's directed by Mike Newell. I think that artistically this movie will prove to be superior to its predecessors, and I sincerely hope he fixed some of the geography issues I had with the third film.

I. Can't. WAIT.

I can't wait to go see it this weekend. I've seen some pictures of Sirius online. It looks like they cleaned him up a little and I am panting with........excitement....yeah that's it

I've always had a crush on Gary Oldman, so Sirius has a special place in my heart.

Not much, but what there is is GREAT. Alan Rickman, as always, brings a certain something to his performances as Snape. There is one particular bit that will have you laughing uncontrollably.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie--as fans of the book know, a lot had to be cut out in order to keep the movie under 3 hours. As it was, they kept all of the important stuff, and all the things you really want to see. It was fast-paced, well-executed, and wonderfully acted. It certainly had its fill of funny awkward teenage moments as well as great dramatic tension. The Weasley twins provide even more comic relief in this movie than the last.

Those who have read the book will know that the last bit is very scary...and the film earns its PG-13 rating.

Oh, and for the person wondering above--there's very little Sirius in this movie. Maybe 30 seconds. Sorry.

My only complaint? Not enough Jarvis Cocker/Weird Sisters in the Yule Ball scene. I love Jarvis Cocker.

I really enjoyed it. My only complaint was the lack of Quidditch World Cup action, other than that, awesome!

There was one part where I couldnt help but chuckle to myself.
Spoiler: When Barty Crouch Jr. sets the Dark Mark at the QWC, Mr. Weasley says "But who?" I thought 'Who' indeed. The guy playing Barty Crouch Jr. is the new Dr. Who!

Dare I be the one to say this? This movie was WAY choppy, its almost like Mike Newel was going for more cinematography than story. Were I not a fan of the books this movie was probably pretty ok, but IMO they left out way too much stuff (yes I know they had to leave some things out) I easily would have sat thru a another 30-60 minutes to see things, that were in my opinion intregral to the story line they followed to have it flow better.

I didn't give away too much here- just some names that were in the story.

I agree. There were at least three story lines that they left out. And they completely left out the part of Ludo Bagman from what I can remember. I would have watched another hour of it, too, to see more of the story.

I really can't see how anyone that has not read it made any sense of the movie.

Really, why put in characters (Rita Skeeter) if you aren't going to follow the progression of their character's story at all?

I want Chris Columbus back. And I am a fan of Snape, too, so I was upset with his small role. Since when does he just hit them? It seemed too nice a punishment for him.

I hope they go with a new director for the fifth movie.

And the Weasley twins are hot.

I didn't mind the directing at all in the film but did feel the sting of the editor's cuts...

This the first of the really long books in the series and a lot had to be cut to make the film a reasonable length (2.5 hours). As a fan I was sad to see some things not there but on the whole it kept the important stuff and even played up some stuff with Neville that should have been done by Dobby, thereby pulling Neville into the overall plot.

Let's face it... the books, like the films are extremely episodic, or to use Shani's words, they are choppy. This film is slightly more choppy than the others but it is only marginally worse for wear than the others.

I think they should have taken a page from Peter Jackson's playbook and release an exteneded DVD version where all the stuff they couldn't include in this version are re-inserted, who knows, maybe they have!

I would recommend the film to anyone who has been following along since the beginning.

I read somewhere (forgot where), that the director toyed with the idea to make it 2 movies released a couple months apart, but was talked out of it by the director of Prisoner of Azkaban, who gave him some ideas on how to trim it into one movie.

My daughter saw it Friday and said that it was good but she was disappointed at all they left out.. We'll go see it over the holiday weekend, I hate crowded theaters...

It's not really the directors fault that there was so much left out. I can see how some people didn't like the editing, and I can imagine that some people who didn't read the books would have a hard time following (even though the only two people I know who saw the movie without reading the books seemed to have enjoyed the movie more than HP fans). You have to realize that when a movie goes over 2 hours, you're breaking into the audience patience limit. I could have easily sat through a longer movie (it seemed short to me), but little kids simply couldn't. It is widely known that the first two Potter movies were criticized HEAVILY for being too long...making the movie even longer is going against what consumers complained about. I liked the idea about filming more of the plot and releasing it as the extended edition DVD!

The producers are also trying to get the movies out as soon as possible so the actors don't age too fast. They're almost on track still (most of the actors are only 1 year older than they're supposed to be) but if they delay production, it'll start to show.

I loved the movie but only wish it could be longer for those who wanted it to be longer. The director chose to focus on the Tri-Wizard tournament as the movie's main theme and I think it worked very well.

I thouroghly enjoyed the film, but was disappointed in all that they changed and cut out. But, being an adult, I understand why they did it.

I thought the dragon scene was much more dramatic than in the book, which was good, but I wasn't happy with the Maze scene at all, nor did I like that they sort of made Cedric look a little arrogant and rude.

My husband has never read the books, but did enjoy the movie a lot. Though he did have a lot of questions for me...stuff that is explained in the book, but not the movie.

Saw the movie this past weekend, and the only thing that stuck out was my cousin blurted out "Hey harry potter's got muscles now." While the concept/ideas/plot leave you asking for more, and Miss Granger's finally screaming @ the redhead to stop being such a pussy were great, sometimes I can't help but think they're getting a bit too old for it.. Kinda in the same way Urkel's coming of age seemed to no longer fit the highwaters and nasal voice after 8616876 seasons..

well i finally got time to go see it last night. i have to say it was really good but there was so much left out that would have added to it. i was really looking forward to the quidditch match but the scene only last a few seconds. i agree with some on spliting the movie up or just extend this one; i could have easily set there an extra hour or two.

overall it was great and i'm already looking forward to the next one.

I loved the movie, I am not going to complain about how they had to cut things out, because, well they had to do it. They had to pick the most important parts of the movie to leave in there. No matter what, some people are going to complain because their favorite part of the movie was left out.

However, I really hope there is some serious extra scenes in the DVD. That would be so nice.

Well to me they left out things intregal to the next movie, that to me were important. Things like SPEW I can totally understand being left out....but the gathering and the parting ways at the end being left out to me was a really bad idea....it doesnt set up for the next one

I see your point, but the third one did something similar. I really did not like how Spoiler: Harry got his Firebolt at the very end of the movie But overall, I really liked this movie. A friend of mine once said, "movies don't ruin books, books ruin movies". haha just thought I would put that out.

Oh and SPEW was by far the worst thing about any of the books. I just could not stand it at all.

Saw it last night on IMAX (which was very cool). Having not read the books, it did seem like some of the scenes/situations were a bit rushed. (Quiddich World Cup scene, Ron's 'Anti- Harry' time, the Graveyard scene, etc).

One of the things that really struck me about this particular installment, was the overall weakening of the female characters. This seems really odd since JK Rowling is. of course, female. For example, Hermione, who was a very strongcharacter in the previous 3, was reduced to a hand-wringing, blubbering "extra". It seemed like her only real role in this episode was that "she cleans up real nice".

Then there's Fleur Delacour. She's supposed to be the "best of the best" of an all-girls school, and the only female champion. So instead of being a badass Lara Croft/Sydney Bristow type character, she's a total wimp who can't even finish the second task (causing her sister to be rescued by "the big strong man"). And then she's the first to go down in the 3rd task, and needs to be rescued.

Like I said, it just seems curious for a female author to suddenly reduce her female characters to weak "love interests".

Just came back from seeing the movie, and I'm glad I didn't read this thread before going, that being said, I agree with the above posters that a lot more than was necessary was sacrificed for this movie. They should have made it twice as long, and stuck in an intermission. The whole house elf thing, the world cup, and explaining all about the death eaters.
