There's a movie coming out with Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning in it. Is this movie suppose to be based on HG Wells' book back in the 50's? Or is it based on the radio show that has all of the East Coast freaked out back in 20 or 30's?

Edit: Ok, it's based on HG Wells novel. Any comment on it? After I saw the trailer, it's looking like it's gonna be one hell of a sci-fi thriller.

I hope H.G.W. would say better things after the let down by is great grandson Simon Wells' remake of The Time Machine. Spielberg was originally given the new Time Machine script but he called up Simon Wells and asked him to do it, knowing that Simon is the descendent of HG Welles.

But as to the new War of the Worlds, again I am expecting great things after being amazed by the stunning portrayal of Minority Report.

just a note, the radio production was an adaptation of the novel, so it's relatively accurate to say the movie is of either (but more proper to say it is of the book since that is the original story).

I'm hoping this movie turns out to be good...it's such a great story. (I like The Time Machine better, but Augi already touched on the travesty that was :()

After listening to the radio broadcast recordings, I'm interested in seeing this movie - sometimes it seems amazing what can happen with the right creative genius.

my friend worked on the set as a photography/lighting intern. he said the material shown in the earliest trailers is not in the movie. also he commented on the scientology recruitment tent that tom brought to the shoot...i guess a few of the crew actually converted.

This movie looks so good, I can't wait for it to come out :) I love Dakota Fanning, she's adorable. Oh, and so it tom :)

I've been waiting to see this movie ever since I saw the trailer in a theatre last year! This looks like the makings of one huge summer blockbuster movie. I can't wait to see it and this thread is not helping! I'm looking forward to seeing this movie more than Star Wars.

Why is it so many movie trailers use scenes that are never in their movies? And scientology... isn't that the religion that L. Ron Hubbard made up in his basement?
Yeah it was something to market his books and publishing company. I don't put down religions but I have heard way too weird of stuff from the people that are scientologists. I bought a Battlefield Earth poster from the company and they never stopped mailing me stuff, most of it was scientology pamphlets and asking me to join.
