I saw the new Amittyville Horror movie
I'd heard nothing but good things about it and when I talked to a guy online beforehand about going to see it he said it was actually better than the original. I can't really remember the original to be honest. I was too young I probably mix it up with various scenes from all the many many sequels. I'm fairly certain it's not better than the original though. If I could see the original again I'm sure I'd be dead certain it isn't.
It has a different twist towards the ending from the original. I remember watching it and definitely being freaked out by some of the imagery but there wasn't any REAL horror in it. All the scary scenes were just random jump out and scare ya moments...a lot of which were predictable so if you know they're coming, and prepared for it, you won't even flinch. The first few were like that. You'll see what I mean when you watch it. After that they get a little more gorey and disturbing I must admitt...maybe enough to make you jump or at least get a reaction but it's not as much of a pyschological horror movie as the original if I'm remembering the original correctly. The acting was pretty good, and the visuals were pretty creepy, I probably wouldn't pay to see it again though. I was fairly entertained throughout it but not so much that it will leave a lasting impression on me. Has anyone else seen it yet? What did you think? Asta!! ps. The ending was lame..you'll see what I mean.

I was just about to make this thread K, good thing I found yours first!
Saw the movie on Friday and was definitely pleased by the quality of it. The acting is amazing, Ryan Reynolds' portrayal of George Lutz is chilling, and it was incredible how the director gradually made you afraid of every single aspect of the house, so even when nothing scary was happening you were still frightened by the thought of what could be there. I thought it was much more than a "Loud-noise-frantic-camera-angle" movie, it was very very tense and kept the mood rolling all the way to the very end. Excellent movie! If I knew how to cover up my text I would post more, but I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone.

Spoiler tags go like this (spoiler)the spoiler(/spoiler) and you replace those with boxes [, ]'s.
It should look like this Spoiler: this is a spoilah baby! I did think the acting was good. I dunno how much credit I'd give for making every corner of the house look scary. I mean it's the same house as the last and it was already a scary house you'd have to thank the original designer for that really. How did you feel about the different direction it took? Ya know the whole Spoiler: he tortured indians in your basement then discarded them in the lake bit? Asta!! Asta!!

I liked it. I really did. It scared the shit out of my friend and I who saw it, of course we then went haunted house hunting and went to this one house under construction by the township. I went through that house and it is really creepy. To get to the house there is a dark scary tunnel of trees which is unnerving.
Plus, part of that movie was filmed in Antioch. I live in Antioch! The scene where they're going through the town and you see all the shops in the sides, that is my town. I saw them in the car rig!

Yeah, i was with augi when we saw it. we were both scared shitless and didn't even realize it till we left the theater.
maybe it affects me because i live in a really old white house, and my room is the one with two windows in the front of the house, and my basement is on two different levels. yeah and about the hunted house hunting, we aimed the headlights up the drive and where they ended was nothing but black. nothing. seriously weird shit. ?? the guy with the bloody face? in the bathroom with the kid? priest or indian? ??

^ Spoiler tag! I gotta admitt that motherfucker creeped me the fuck out when he popped up. I knew a scene like that was coming, I prepared myself for it too but I did not think he was gonna be that fuckin creepy looking. In all honesty if I was the kid I would have dropped fuckin dead right then and there.

Thanks for the spoiler tags, I haven't see it yet, but I will soon. I recently watched the first Amityville Horror for the first time a few days ago. The video store around here never had it, so I finally downloaded it. I wanted to know the story before I saw this remake. The bad reviews I've heard of this one, are usually that it's not accurate with the real events that occured. So I was told to watch it without thinking it's a 'documentary' but just a Hollywood film. I'm not a big fan of horror movies nowadays just because they're so predictable. Either we think someone is the killer, and it turns out to be someone we didn't expect (but we really did), or they just try and do those 'jump out and scare you' bits.
What is a good horror movie anyway, like seriously? What is actually scary? I can't think of 1.. I'll have to watch the movie and come back to this thread though, because I am pretty farmiliar with the backstory and events.

I like the original and will most likely aviod the remake. The original was quite creepy. Particularily since I was 5 at the time and the house in the movie resembled the house we lived in at the time. I was seeing things around every corner.

Anyway, I saw the new Amittyville, and it wasn't too scary really. Neither my friend nor myself was bothered by it. My sister, however, had to sleep in our mom's bed the night she watched it.

Thought this was a really good film and a good remake. Few too many "jump out of your seat" moments. You kind of knew when they were coming they were that frequent. Agree about the lame ending point, not too sure what it was supposed to mean really.
Also seen a trailer for Dark Water. Having not seen the original the trailer looked bizarre. |

didn't find it terribly scary. The scariest part would be the creepy bathroom guy though, other than that it, nothing too bad. After thinking about it, I do agree that it was well done how the whole house is made to look scary, all in all though I didn't think it was that great: a few "jump out at you" bits and thats that. I have yet to see the original.
