The Star Wars queue (line) begins

So the new films isn't due for another 7 weeks and for some it seems like the perfect opportunity to waste weeks sleeping in a queue, the only problem here is they think they're in the right queue but aren't!! The cinema says its the wrong cinema but the fans say they're not going anyway.

My question to you is how long would you stand in line for?

Quote:
BBC - 'Wrong queue' for Star Wars fans
Star Wars fans have started queuing seven weeks early for the opening of the final movie - but appear to have camped outside the wrong cinema.

Dedicated fans are lining up outside the famous Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood but have been told it will open on 19 May at a cinema a mile away.

Producers opted to open the film at the ArcLight cinema, making it unlikely other cinemas in the area will show it.

But the fans are refusing to move, believing the news to be false.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith will open at the ArcLight complex, which is adjacent to another Hollywood landmark, the Cinerama Dome.

"We've heard all this before," said Sarah Sprague, one of the small group already queuing.

She said similar stories were circulated ahead of Star Wars releases in 1999 and 2002 - but the films had eventually opened at Grauman's.

"This is still the epicentre for Star Wars fans," Ms Sprague added.

"For the big iconic pictures of the 1970s, people lining up were here. They weren't at the Cinerama Dome."

Revenge of the Sith will be the last of three prequels to the original 1977 science fiction classic.

'More emotional'

Executives from 20th Century Fox and ArcLight told Variety magazine Revenge of the Sith would be showing at the Arclight although a deal had yet to be completed.

In 2002, two die-hard fans started camping outside their local Seattle cinema four months before the release of Episode II: Attack of the Clones.

Despite mixed reviews for the past two Star Wars releases, anticipation for the final instalment is expected to be high.

Director George Lucas has said Revenge of the Sith is darker and more emotional than previous Star Wars films.

I'd wait maybe 2-3 hours in line on a queue on a P2P network, but then I'd probably get impatient and just head to newsgroups.

The furthest that I'd stretch it would be to get to the theater as it's opening and buy tickets for a show that evening, but I wouldn't be camping in line to get the things.

I enjoyed Eps 4 through 7 when I was young. Episode 1 made me realize that I was no longer the target audience for these movies. I didn't see Ep 2, and I won't see this one either. I might go as far as reading the spoilers for it.

For HHGTTG, I'd be in the 0-10 minute category.

0-10 for me
i plan to see this movie but not until the large crowds die down
the have a good story basis for this section of the series and im crossing my fingers that all the cool shit that will happen has not been screwed up by 98% blue screen/CG effects and george lucas doing PCP. <--(thats a joke incase anyone takes me seriously)

Redlemon: What was episode 7 like?

I'll see this just to be done with it once and for all, but I won't go opening weekend, let alone opening night. I went to midnight showing of Ep 1 and was irritated by all the people dressed up and the cheering for the LucasFilm logo and so forth. I won't make the same mistake again.

The only Episode 7's I can imagine are either the Ewok adventure movie(s), or the "Shadows of the Empire" books. Maybe Redlemon knows something we don't? I wouldn't call this a Spoiler: Luc get's thrown in jail for kissing his sister. Han finds out Chewy is married and they go through a messy break up. Darth Sideous' last name: Bush, Sideous Bush. The Millinium Falcon get's 20" spinners.

I'll wait in line at the local DLP theatre for no more than 4 hours. Getting the tickets online won't be so bad, but the people get to there to get into the theatre propoer very early for good seats. I refuse to sit in the front row for the last Star Wars movie.

i still haven't seen all of the phantom menace, none of the attack of the clones. so i guess i'll be waiting pretty long...years, decades...to see the next one.

this line is a bit of a publicity stunt, they say they're raising money for cancer kids. they're lined up at graumann's because it's the main theater in hollywood. it's actually playing at the arclight.

and here is their website:

Ah yes, of course I was referring to The Star Wars Holiday Special. No, I'm still an idiot, but thanks for trying to cover for me.

Wouldn't that be Episode 4.5 or so? I think Life Day should be on our calendars.

Seriously though, the Admiral Thrawn trilogy would make for an excellent set of movies. Provided Lucas doesn't direct, of course.

I waited in line for Episode 1 and won't be doing so again. Not for 30 or so hours, anyway.

As Coppertop said, I'd think you could be referring to Timothy Zahn's excellent Thrawn Trilogy; many fans refer to it as what 7-9 should be.

However, my gratitude for the education on off-by-one errors -- a Star Wars geek can never have too much nerd knowledge!

I won't see this movie opening night anyway as much as I'm looking forward to it. Unfortuately at the theater that I go to (and work at) the assholes who come to movies just to talk and make stupid commments really loud so everyone can hear them all come on movies opening nights. Unfortunatly I can never see a movie on opening night cause I just cant stand it. And since I work there, whenever someone acts up, it means I have to get my ass up out of the seat and say something or get a cop to kick them out.

Went to a midnight showing of Episode One, cause it was the thing to do. And it was fun. Not for the movie, which I didn't care for too much, but for all the fun freaky people in Darth Maul outfits, along with the cheering and fan boy banter.

Episode Two, I waited for the next day and got in with no line at all. I'll probably do the same for this one. Unless, a bunch of people want to go along to a midnight showing (though I doubt it would be as much fun as the first).

We need more people like you. I hate seeing movies in the cinema exactly for that reason, so i tend to go for the early viewings when all the kids are at school, the student life affords me that pleasure.

That's exactly why I can't see it in a theater.

I saw Episode I on opening night and oh my GOD... the amount of retards that come dressed up like Star Wars characters is sickening. I wanted to smack all of them. The same thing happpened at Matrix Reloaded when the lonely goth wannabe kids come dressed up in trench coats and sunglasses.

There was a HUUUUUUUUUGE guy in a tank top and a Darth Vader helmet with a plastic light saber. I wanted to poison his popcorn.

... my kids are already planning the "camp out" the night before...

best part about going on day 1 is all the other major fans in the theatre... we had a blast hooting and hollering and applauding each step of the way last time... will definatley be there on day one again.

Haven't seen Episode 1 or 2...but since seeing the trailer for 3 I must see it in the theater. I'll probably see the others beforehand just so I don't miss out on small stuff. This one actually looks exciting. I'll probably Fandango and go see it pretty quickly. It's hard to tell with my group of friends--they may want to go to the midnight show, they may want to wait...Hard to say.

No, I don't think they have jobs. One guy was talking about how he either got fired or quit, I can't remember which, so now he could wait in line more. There's a payphone outside the theater where they are waiting in line, you can ask them yourselves. The number is (323) 462-9609.
