Mitch Hedberg Dead =[

What an unbelievable loss for stand-up comedy...

Quote:
MITCH HEDBERG - FAREWELL TO A FRIEND
From the 3/17/05 Rundown -
by Jason Kaplan
The Howard Stern Show is saddened to learn that legendary comedian Mitch Hedberg has passed away. Mitch was just on the show two weeks ago...

THE NEXT SEINFELD

Comedian Mitch Hedberg sat in on the news today. Howard read in his notes that Mitch was named as the "Next Seinfeld" in Time Magazine. Mitch confirmed this and added that was in 1998. Howard joked that that writer has probably been fired. Mitch said that although he's not having Seinfeld's career, he's still making a lot more money than he ever thought he would traveling around doing stand up. Artie said that Mitch is actually a huge draw on the road. Mitch said he doesn't even know what he spends all his money on, except for sunglasses, which are his thing. He really likes collecting them. Mitch travels around the country touring in his RV with his wife and says he really likes doing it. He then told some satellite radio jokes he's been working on. He said that he really liked listening to commercial free music on satellite radio, but after a half hour he freaks out because he realizes he doesn't know what to go out and buy. Then he said the reason you're allowed to curse on satellite radio is because no one is listening.
the source is HowardStern.com, so I can't guarantee the validity. http://www.howardstern.com/

I hope this isnt true, but if it is,

RIP to Mitch Hedberg, the laughs were greatly appreciated

Definitely a tragic loss to the comedy community. I just hope his family and close friends are able to deal with a loss that came far too early.

I heard about this last night, I was hoping it was a joke, since it hadn't been in any of the media.

This is unbelievable sad.

RIP Mitch, you will be missed.

I hadn't known much about him up until a few years ago, but I have a few of his albums now and had been hearing him on Sirius Satellite Radio's comedy channels as a guest on the "Getting Late with Phil" show and as a guest on Jim Breuer's (sp?) daily show "Unleashed."

A huge loss for stand up comedy and the entertainment industry in general.

Here's a ton of quotes for the uninitiated

he was easily my favorite stand-up comic - saw him 4 times and i have tickets to his show that was scheduled for saturday night at the baltimore improv. he was constently writing new material, so seeing him never got old. my favorite gig of his was at UMD a few years ago. he was up on stage for nearly 2 hours, having finished his set long before. the last 30-40 minutes was just the audience calling out their favorite mitch jokes, and then he would tell them. classy, nice guy.

I refused to believe it for a few days. Now comes the hard acceptance that our world lost one of its most brilliant, understated comedic minds that we've ever had. No matter how many times I listen to him, I'm always on the floor laughing almost as soon as it begins.

"My apartment is infested with koala bears. It's the cutest infestation ever. Way better than cockroaches. When I turn on the light, a bunch of koala bears scatter, but I don't want them too. I'm like, 'Hey... Hold on fellows... Let me hold one of you, and feed you a leaf.' Koala bears are so cute, why do they have to be so far away from me. We need to ship a few over, so I can hold one, and pat it on its head."

What I loved about Mitch was, his comedy was never at anyone's expense. He had a certain persona that he played, but he always had so much heart in his work. He had a sweetness that was just charming and great, and even though his jokes were the Seinfeld-observational-humor variety, there was a wonderfully warped world-view he was always expressing.

I also love his wordplay jokes, and meta-jokes--jokes that play with the concept of jokes. "I used to do drugs. I still do drugs, but I used to do them too." I mean, that's some funny shit!

Oh no... I just realized who Heberg was when I saw his picture. That really sucks.

That guy made me laugh harder than I ever have before in my life... he had the most amazing delivery that just had me in stitches. I'll miss him.

great points, man. he really did seem like such a genuinely sweet guy, on and off the stage. it's a shame not only because the comedy world lost such a truly unique and hilarious voice, but because the bottom line is he was just a good guy that was taken from the world far too early.
