Manamana

Has anyone seen the commercial (I think it is for Dr. Pepper) where there is a couple sitting at a restaurant and the guy is talking and the girl gets her Dr. Pepper and tunes him out?

It starts playing that Muppet song and all she hears the guy saying is "Manamana" and the people in the background are doing the "Do--dooo--do-do--do" part.

I don't know why, but this thing made me laugh so much. Honestly I was making my wife laugh because I was laughing out loud, which I hardly ever do.

Me too! haha I love that commercial. The fuck is up with that drink though? It's like they're tryin to do some taste bud overload...first it's Dr. Pepper which has a flavor already, then vanilla..okay..Then cherry! And to top it all off it's diet? Yuck

Yeah I know. Dr. Pepper is fine by himself. I still want it cause it would make me laugh remembering that.

I think that's a Muppet song.

I've had it stuck in my head for a week, and one of my friends just told me yesterday it was on the commercial. I haven't seen it yet. But I love the song.

It was a hairy dude who sang it on 'The Muppets'. All the best songs were on that show.

As for the Dr. Pepper, apparently its flavor is supposed to be cherry & spice to begin with.

*goes off to google Dr. Pepper*

I busted a gut when I first saw this commercial!

Manamana is definately sung by Animal from The Muppets. A friend of mine played me the mp3 a few years ago, and it still randomly gets stuck in my head. Seeing it in that Dr. Pepper ad really caught me off guard and just floored me.

Upon further inspection, it appears to *not* have been sung by Animal. But I'll stake my life on the fact that it's the same voice as animal.

I am glad I am not crazy about liking this commercial so much.

I also was not sure if it was Muppets or Sesame Street. I put Muppets in the original post, but I think it may have been Sesame Street now that I think about it.

Anyone finds out for sure, let me know. Please post a link if you find it online somewhere.

The song was written by Piero Umiliani, and used in a Swedish soft porn movie before (you can easily find his version on filesharing networks). Lots of info on Piero on this page. It may have also been Henri Salvado, who is on that page as well.

There are two versions of Mah Na Mah Na (or Mahna Mahna) by Henson's Muppets characters. Neither of them are Animal; according to the CD, it is sung by "Mahna Mahna & The Two Snowths". I don't know who voiced him, but I'd be willing to bet it was Jim Henson, since he also did Dr. Teeth and Rowlf. The famous one was 1977, on Sesame Street. The other one, based on the look of the characters, may have predated Sesame Street.

Oh, on further searching, here's a page showing screenshots from different Muppets versions of Mah Na Mah Na.

Thanks Redlemon!!

That is very interesting. I kinda figured the song wasn't made for the Muppets specifically.

Looks like everyone was kinda right

I was searching for this info a couple of weeks ago, i have no recollection why. However, I found out that Cake does a pretty kick-ass cover of it... if you like Cake, that is.

It's off the For the Kids compilation album, recommended by a friend of mine... here it is at Amazon, or on the iTunes Music Store.

I saw that commercial today, and it was excellent.

I would like to add that Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper tastes like... Dr. Pepper. I couldn't even tell a difference. It's certaintly not as exciting as vanilla coke.

The earlier version was played in the Top 40 in the late 60's, but I can't remember which year, or how high it charted.
