Cowboy Bebop Thread
I am not a huge anime fan, but Cowboy Bebop is by far my favorite.
I really encourage anyone even those who never care much for animation to give it a try. If you like a good, elaborate plot, and deep characters, you wont regret it. The series has little to do with Cowboys, its actually based in the future where they call bounty hunters 'cowboys' and thats what the main characters are. Another thing to try is the soundtrack, which is simply amazing. Actually its like 4 cd's of very good Jazz, Blues, Pop, Rock, and other genres. The jazz is specially good. I don't have a favorite character really, they all have good merits, and feel very human because they have deep character traits that you can pick up during the span of the series. I know there are a bunch of TFPer's who love Cowboy Bebop, so lets make this thread big. SEE YOU SPACE COWBOY ...

I loove Cowboy Bebop. I've been getting into it more recently. I just bought a TV card for the computer so now I don't have to worry about falling asleep before it comes on! I'm planning on recording all of the episodes, then make SVCDs out of them with menus and everything, and putting them in jewel cases and tray inserts and such.
If it all goes according to plan it'll be pretty nice marco, are you planning on seeing the movie? Its supposed to come out in America pretty soon, and some friends and I are talking about taking a road trip to Chicago to see it.

By far one of the best anime series made.
I also have to agree about the music. I'm not a big jazz fan, but in this case, the music fit so well into the story line. BTW, it's been a while since I've seen it, but wasn't their ship called Bebop?

faye is my favorite. such a lonely character. in the last episode, i guess you're supposed to be sympathizing with spike, but what about faye? she's forced to trust again, she's about to get betrayed, and she realizes it.
the dub is pretty good. kinda shaky at first, but it gets better as it progresses. i always felt that megumi hayashibara is better suited for playing little girls. faye is supposed to be a woman. the english dub captures that aspect pretty well. |

bebop is the only worthwhile anime, far as im concerfned. the show has even become a part of our idiomatic expressions. we "float" eachother cigarettes and say "Spike-uh" like its going out of style

Out of all of the animes I've seen so far in my life, Cowboy bepop ranks up there at the top for best everything . The music is good enugh to stand on it's own and when combinded with the images on the anime and the action of the storyline, it makes for great TV.

Ed is my favorite, I have to say, she's my kind of girl (not in that way!) a well of intelligence below silliness and awe . Spike is the smoothest mofo this side of venus. He FLOWS, not he is an kickass fighter, but he is so smooth I expect him to flow right out of my tv during fight sceens.
I just wish they had more episodes...... :~( |

Excellent series. I picked up the reedited version after renting it from blockbuster. The music really makes it. Don't care for the end of the series however.

I resent the fact that cartoon network has bastardized this awesome series... taming it down and everything... ugh.

One of my favorite anime series of all time. All the characters were great. Spike and Vicious were badass. Faye was fucking hot. Yoko Kanno's music was awesome as always. Buy the box set now. It's worth it.

Cowboy Bebop rocks!!!!! Spike is awesome, I'm completely in love with him (is is weird to have a crush on a cartoon charactrer? lol). At the end Ed and Ein don't end up going with her dad, he ends up leaving her again right? Someone said that they end up going with her dad. Any hoo I wanted to ask if anyone noticed on tri gun, that some of the voices have been Jet and Spike from Bebop? I've noticed it a couple times, and I'm just wondering if I'm going nuts.

I seem to be a victim of trends.. I get into something, then a couple months later, the whole friggin world is crazy about the shit.
Cowboy Bebop was tamed down for the TV show - less blood, less innuendo, they even left out a few episodes.

Halx, by "tamed down for the TV show", do you mean it was something other than a TV show at first, or do you mean they censored it a bit for the Cartoon Network version? Are the DVDs different from the show they show on Cartoon Network?

No, it's always been a TV show. Personally, I don't think anything of importance was edited out in the Cartoon Network cuts- all I recall being gone is the occasionally uttered "shit", and a scene in Jupiter Jazz where they break down the wrong door and catch a pair of gay guys in the act. The blood still flows freely, and the stories remain uncompromised.

Bah, if you are going to reveal parts of the plot give a warning for fucks sake.
I knew about Spike, because I read it on another forum without a spoiler warning much to my disgust, and now I know about Ed too. Thanks. CNX (er, Cartoon Network Xtreme) dunno if you get that in the States shows it over here (Ireland and UK). It's awfully erratic though, they don't show episodes in order, in fact they just jump all over the place. I can't watch it though, because it's dubbed and it just feels wrong. I've seen the first 17 episodes now, and I'm really enjoying it. Too bad I know how it ends though. |
