And I quote:

Excellent quote from a book:

"You want a man with strength of purpose. It's only when a man is being true to himself that he can truly love. If you're carrying the masculine energy in the relationship - supporting him financially, handling the responsibilities of your lives together - you won't be able to feel him as a man, because he's not contributing any male energy to the relatiionship. It's all on you."

does THAT sound familiar to me... that's exactly what my previous relationship was like!!

Isn't that a tad sexist?

If I wrote something along the lines of "If she hasn't got big tits, doesn't shave her pussy and can't suck like a hoover, then she's not acting like a woman" I'd be rightly criticised.

I have to agree with you two. I'm wondering what time period this quote and the book came from...

sexist, although Mr. Mephisto's " "quote" " is a bit far fetched...
Maybe cook, clean and suck like a hoover would be better suitted
I would suppose that Sue's quote would work if the male was weating the skirt in the relationship. Mr. Mom I think the new age term is.

I was being extreme to make a point. But I accept Temporary_User's suggestions are better than my overtly sexual ones.

Either way, the original quote is sexist.

i think the implication is more along the lines of this: the perspective of the quote is from an independant woman who is working hard and responsible and she needs the same in her man, not a bum. basically. thats what i get out of it. i think its probably taken a bit out of context and it does sound kinda sexist. but maybe thats just me.

Agreed. The first two sentences are all that matter. They hold truth for men and women whatever the setting.

The rest is a bit lost in expectations, maybe colored by age.

The quote seems to imply that financial support and handling life's responsibilities are a man's work ("masculine energy"). Quite an out-dated way of thinking I would have thought...?

If the moral of the story is merely "lazy people don't make good partners", then what of all the "masculine energy" nonsense? Surely it could be made in a 'gender-neutral' fashion.

thats the problem, you can't tell wtf it implies, its taken out of context. when i read it, i hear the tone of a woman who's already responsible financially and independent and doesn't want to be the only one as such in a relationship. but, like i said, i could be wrong.

sure, it could be made in a gender-neutral fashion, but maybe the text its taken from isn't anywhere near gender-neutral? if everything that was written was made to be PC, literature would suck.

I dig what you're saying Sue.

There is The Male.
There is The Female.

and they ARE the ruling energies of our society.(our world)((our universe))

It's the way it is.
It's the way it was.

And when you ask the male to take on the traits and responsibilities of the female
you ask the unnatural.
And when you expect the female to take on the traits and responsibilities of the male
you ask the impossible.

There is a blending now, of these energies.
Is it gnosis?
Is it evolution?

I know that I sound like a heretic right here and now but....

But, like, if the guy carried the feminine energy in the relationship, then maybe it'd work? The woman would have to feel the guy as a woman, like the guy is supposively feeling her like a man because she's supporting him financially with the male role or whatever...but then they're just sort of switching roles...sort of back to square one. I don't know...interesting quote...
