I have a bunch.
First has to be the boondock saints. great movie by Troy Duffy !!!

Next has to be Howard the Duck. my friends and i get drunk to that movie and play the 80's game. every reference to the eighties you do a shot. the record is about 2\3 through the movie before some one pukes.

then there is Highlander. the first one was great, the rest sucked. each movie after the first had very little to do with the first one except that conor mccloud was in them. wtf

evid dead has to near the top. evil dead or evil dead 2 they are the same movie. then the sequel arm of darkness. oh man i love that movie.

Well, its obvious that a million people are going to say Rocky Horror Picture Show. So I won't say it here.

although i did.

Anyway, a movie that I absolutely adore is Kentucky Fried Movie. Its mainly a bunch of different segments, but the main focus is on the Wizard of Oz meets Enter the Dragon spoof.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I used to be able to recite the entire movie from any point. It was sad... Now that I own the DVD, I barely watch it... I should though

Man, there's a whole gaggle of them for me. I won't bore everyone with all of them, but:

A Christmas Story- ever since "It's A Wonderful Life" stopped playing around the clock around Christmastime a few years ago, this movie has been slowly taking its place. I think it comes on something like a hundred times during the month of December, and I catch at least part of it every chance I get.

UHF: Weird Al does weird things at a TV station, with The Nanny and Kramer.

Strange Brew: I usually just call this one "the hoser movie". It was based on some sketches Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas did on SCTV, and involves mice in beer bottles, hockey-player brainwashing, and lots of Canadian pride. Features Mel Blanc!

Army of Darkness. The University of Maryland has midnight showings every year, it's a great chance to yell at the movie.

Rocky's good too. There's a club on campus that does a show every semester, it's a freak show.

Will no one say Plan 9 From Outer Space? Never seen it myself, but it's reknowned for its sheer crappiness.
I'm thinking about the term "cult classic" in its originally intended sense. It means that a small group of people know about the movie and watch it frequently and obsessively, often in groups, while the rest of the world is ignorant or dismissive of the film. I don't really watch any films that have that sort of following.

Escape from New York. cheeze but great to laugh at.

I think that Connery movie is "Zardoz", but I don't know if it's as old as all that, so it might not be the one you're talking about. And "Plan 9" goes without saying.

They Live- Rowdy Roddy Piper and Keith David, with the aid of high-tech sunglasses, discover that aliens have already conquered the earth. Best line (spoken in this movie first) "I'm here to kick ass and chew bubblegum. And I'm all out of bubblegum."

Freaked- Not many people know about this one, so it really is a cult movie. It has Alex Winter (he played Bill in "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure", another favorite) as a TV star turned into a mutant by Randy Quaid, who puts him in his freakshow. It's a hilarious movie, full of stupid gag characters like Cow-boy (part cowboy, part cow), the Bearded Lady (played by Mr. T) and a guy with a sock-puppet for a head voiced by Bobcat Goldthwait.

And speaking of him, see "Shakes the Clown", the best damn alcoholic clown movie ever made.

The Matt Helm movies were fabulous, The Silencers, Murderer's Row, The Ambushers, and The Wrecking Crew. Where Bond movies focused on the idea of 'For God and Country', Helm's attitude was a lot closer to 'For Dames and Whisky'. All in all a very enjoyable series.

Dollar for Dollar though, I find that the Flint movies are much more Cult-esque. Also submitted for your perusal, Nightbreed, an oft-overlooked Clive Barker vehicle that never got the sequel it needed.

Ok oh great and powerful God of TFP what is your definition of cult classics?

mine definition is, this maybe faulty:

1) cult movie has to be at least past the inital popularity. that means past when people are going to see it at the movie theater and past seeing it on home movies
2)cult movies due to their following may return to the movie screens Rockey horror, star wars etc....
3) cult movies has to have some kind of following. it may be a small get together that people come every year or even every month. (thus the word cult). it doen't have to be a set time though. for an example once and a great while all my friends get together to watch Howard the duck and do the eighties drinking game.
4) cult movie start by some die hard movie fans showing the movie they like to everone they meet. sort of like how the boon dock saints got so big.

i may have left some things out but this is the gist of it.

I think cult movies can't be successful in their initil release. If it's a big movie the first time around, it's not a cult movie. Cult movies get loved by some small segment and then, sometimes, get broader popularity from there.

Here's more of an obscure movie than a cult movie, but I know of a number of people who love it for it's strangeness. It's called "The 5000 fingers of Dr. T." Most of it is a dream sequence from the point of view of a little boy. The sets were designed by Dr. Seuss. It's very strange, in a 1950's sort of way.

Flash Gordon is great, especially the Queen soundtrack... but what about "Flesh Gordon"?

If you haven't seen it, it's just like the original Flash Gordon, only with slightly naughty changes. For example, instead of Emperor Ming of Mongo, it's Emperor Wang of Porno. A funny thing about that one is that some of the SFX suck out loud, like a spaceship where you can see the string, and others are pretty good, like a stop-motion alien that goes on a rampage near the end of the movie.

Another favorite is Santa Claus Conquers the Martians- MSTers have probably seen it, but it's plenty odd enough on its own without the comments. I make a point of watching it at least once every Christmas.
