I'm on the first 30 pages. Just didn't pull me in like I hoped it would.
Spoiler: If Snape ends up being bad I'm going to be so pissed I won't even be able to see straight.

Quite possibly.
Spoiler: I'd like to think that Snape didn't know what he was signing himself up to do... And he had to follow up having to leave the castle after killing DD, but I'm sure I'm wrong and I for some reason just have too much sympathy for ole Snape. But still. Damn him.

Spoiler: yer, right up until Harry seen the dead body i was willing to give Snape the benifit of the doubt...
i expected Witherwings to be just under the Astronamy tower and to catch Dumbledore... cause i remember from Moodys class that the death curse (i'm at work and can't spell it) is useless unless you really put your hate in2 it, or something like that. so i didn't think what Snape did was fatal!

Spoiler: Oh damn - I forgot about that. That sucks even more so. Man. I liked Snape, too. I always gave him the benefit of the doubt, but nooooooo... Oh well. I'd like to find out what Snape told Dumbledore for sure that made him trust him. Because I'm pretty sure that "Oh I'm sad that I got Potty's parents dead" isn't sufficient. I'm honest to God 100% suprised that Snape ended up being evil, though. I disbelieved it the entire book.

I got myself in SOOOO much trouble over this with my sister...this is going to be a bad week.
I hadn't heard anything about the book, so I just made up the most bizarre and horrible unthinkable plot twist I could think of, and as soon as she got home with it (at 1am) I said "Oh, you got the new book...I heard the part where _____________________ was really sad..." She got really mad, and then I said "Just kidding...or am I?" My mom thought it was so funny, she did the same thing to a couple of her friends, mentioning the same plot twist. HOWEVER. Having just finished the book.... Holy crap, my fake plot twist actually happens. My sister is going to think I'm an ASSHOLE, and my mom's friends are gonna be mad as well The worst part is I can't even apologize until after she is mad at me without spoiling it completely. This sucks. Spoiler: My plot twist was "the part where _____ dies..." I'm not saying who because if you haven't read it you shouldn't know and if you have you know what i'm talking about

Spoiler: Uh, no offense to any of you that were suprised or anything, but were you honestly suprised? He took an unbreakable vow in the first chapter saying he'd look after Malfoy, and soon as I figured out that Malfoy was to kill Dumbledoor, I knew. Still, it sucks he was weakened for nothing.

Spoiler: We were suprised only in the sense that we all had faith that it wouldn't happen. We hoped that you know, Severus wasn't actually bad, and things would be fine and dandy. But it turns out that our faith was misplaced and.. well... Bad stuff happened. And right, that R.A.B. thing sucked, too. Kind of added insult to injury. Rowlings really should put out the final book ASAP instead of dragging it out for two years.

Spoiler: my main question is will there be another book???
we've always been promised 7 books for 7 years of Hogwarts... but if Harry is not goin to school next year, does this mean it is set up to go longer than 7 books??? or was that the last?? or will there still only be one more? i personally think JK Rowlings is setting it up so she can write as many books as she wants, following the DAs defeat of "he-who-can-not-be-named"

Spoiler: Potentially. But if she doesn't kill Voldermort/Potter in the next book I'll be pretty unimpressed with her for dragging out the novels longer then 7 books like expected.

Hm. I'd also just like to make a personal issue I've had with the last two Harry Potter books... There's not much in the way of continuity. I mean that in the sense that we start out in July (Well, this one's a week after book 5), and then we've got a scene in like November soon after, then a short break for December, then we're at the end of the year it feels like. I enjoyed reading the day to day life of Hogwarts even if it meant tacking on a hundred pages. I suppose it doesn't matter, though, since Spoiler: they're not going back to Hogwarts apparently

All I have to say is.....
Spoiler: has anyone besides me stopped to think....what if Dum had one of those horcrux (sp?) things as well? And if he DID and trusted Snape as much as he kept telling Harry..then Snape would know. He said in that final scene with Draco he could make him appear dead to Voldermort...whats to say he could do the same thing to himself? I refuse to believe Snape is bad Just an idea

Here's the thing. J.K. Rowling is a major MILF. AILF. Author. This is my intelligent contribution to this "I read it before you did and here's what happens" thread.

Daost, your avatar totally kicks ass.
On a thread-related note, hubby hasn't read any of the books, just watches the movies and has me give him the other details (blasphemy, I know). His first reaction to the ending was that Spoiler: either Dumbledore really didn't die or that Snape was faking it somehow.... All I know is, I can't wait for the next book to see what finally happens. I hope it's not another two year wait.

In response to above, in a recent interview with Time, she stated the next book is definetely the last, unless Rowling turns out to be a liar (which I doubt.) She also said it will be her last fantasy book/series but that she does plan to continue writing.
It probably will take a couple years for the last one to come out too she said that she only had a baby of a book so far and probably won't really start it until next year. I suspect the movies are keeping her busy, I would rather her concentrate on the books before bothering with the movies, but oh well. |

I read somewhere that some people think it might be Spoiler: Regalus A Black (I'm sure I spelled the 1st name wrong), he was Sirius's brother and was a Death Eater. I think that is possible, he could actually be alive and in the Order's 'witness protection program,' but I think it will be someone new.
Some also think that Dumbledore was an animangus and his animal form was a phoenix. He was the trasnfiguration professor and it does seem as if a mastery of trasfiguration would be necessary for the job. When his tomb burst into flames Harry thought that he saw a phoenix rise from it. I don't see why Dumbledore needs to be alive, except to prove to Harry that Snape was following orders by killing him. Harry could find out in a different way. The more I think of it the more I think Snape is a spy for the Order (so he'd be a triple agent?). |

sorry. just finished the damn book. Also, zeraph, she is trying to keep the movie series moving, as she seems to have a liking for the current actors. Edit: btw, if you think i should have used spoiler tags, please, JKR plastered all around that someone was gona die. Last edited by BenChuy; 07-19-2005 at 10:30 AM.. |

I also believe Snape is a triple agent working for the Order, kutulu.
He had too many chances to let the Death Eaters do away with HP, but he saved him every time while giving the excuse that LV wanted to kill HP himself. Also, that theory about Dumbledore and the phoenix rising is a pretty good one. It gives me hope that my favorite character will be back.

That is a pretty good theory about the phx and transfig. Like someone else said though, I just don't see why he'd need to come back since there's only one book left. I also would have thought he'd have told harry if that were a possibilty, plus Rowling gave no hints. |

I was reading Time the other day and they made an interesting point of speculation: Harry wishes to become an Auror but things don't always go the way Harry plans so maybe instead of becoming an Auror he'll become the next teacher for Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts. Sounds like a neat idea. I'd much prefer it to him becoming an Auror, being an Auror is like being a straight-hero which is something Harry is not.

Spoiler: I can see him eventually taking the job of defense against the dark arts but not until after he's defeated Voldemort. I don't think he's going to be able to hunt for Horcrux if he's stuck teaching at Hogwarts.
I pretty much figured it would be Dumbeldore who was going to die... In order for Harry to truly defeat Voldemort and become a man, his remaining father figure had to disappear from the story... and since you can't just make Dumbeldore sick you have to kill him.. besides, it ups the dramatic tension... As for Snape he did take the oath and it was inevitable that he would have to follow through. I didn't think Malfoy would go through with it... Somethoughts: Potter is going to redeem Draco Malfoy... somehow Snape will be instrumental in bringing down Voldemort Dumbledore will rise from the ashes just like a Phoenix but not until the story is finsihed.
