What are your opinions on the movie, Primer?
I just saw Primer last night and, despite the movie losing me (in terms of understanding) a little after the half-way mark, I still thoroughly enjoyed the movie! So, I went to IMDb to see what others thought and I was surprised by how many people vehemently hated it. I think everyone thought it was confusing (including the people who liked it) but the main complaint was (much like The Village) that it was boring.
Now, I'm not known for a keen attention span, but I was intrigued throughout the whole movie, even during the half where I was confused and didn't really know what was going on. Perhaps it's because I'm not easily discouraged and feel that there's a chance to pick up what's going on a little later in the movie (never happened) or that I can figure things out on a second viewing (which I plan to do but not in the theatre). I don't know. All I know is that I liked it and it wasn't just because it had some interesting ideas. The tension between the entrepreneurs made the story interesting on an emotional level, too. So, really, it's hard for me to see why so many people found it so boring... |
One of the most intelligent and involving movies to come along in a long time, imo. I probably couldn't recommend it to a single one of my friends, but I loved it.

Rented it yesterday and just watched it today. Definitely a bit confusing, but I thought it was pretty entertaining. I'm still trying to work it around in my mind to try to understand it better, and can understand a decent bit of what went on in the second half of the movie, but I'd love to find a website that does a great job of explaining it.

Found this:
http://www.primermovie.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=221 This helps explain the movie a bit, but I'd love to hear a rundown of the whole movie from the director's mouth. |
Yes, a definite mindfuck. I'll have to watch it again to try to piece some of it together. It just goes a million miles an hour at the end it's hard to keep up with what's happening...
