Name this movie ! [Peter Gardener]

Hey,

My government teacher talked about this movie today, it's about some guy named peter gardener, i believe, and he lives with this old, rich women for his entire life, and then she croaks, and he has to move out on his own. Then, he only knows the world via television, so he uses weird analogies and becomes popular in washington d.c.

Anyone know what movie i'm talking about ? Care to share their thoughts/comments on it ?

[I know I could ask him tomorrow, but I'm anxious to find out now :D ]

thanks,
keyshawn

I have looked all over IMDB and tried several searches on google and came up with nothing. Sorry. When you find out will you let us know? Now that you have sparked my interest in this.

its called 'Being There' with peter sellers... he plays a simple man, the gardener of this estate - everybody mistakes him for the man of the house & takes his simple thoughts & answers & thinks they are very deep & philsopical...
funny movie

"Being There" is a great movie. He falls into this new life without trying. Everything happens as a result of other's assumptions, etc.

That movie sounds a little like "The man who knew too little" with Bill Murray. Basically people make assumptions about him and his luck pervails and helps him overcome obsticles. I will have to check out "Being There" sometime soon.

His name is actually Chauncy Gardener, from Chance the Gardener. Very funny movie.

Peter Sellers made some good movies, but I think this was his best.

Great movie!

Small piece of trivia:
Right after Chance the gardener (before he's incorrectly thought to be named Chauncey Gardner by the politically-connected people he meets later) is walking down the median in the middle of the busy road with Deodato's rendition of Also Sprach Zarathurstra (i.e. Theme From 2001: A Space Odyssey) playing in the background, he comes upon a group of black city kids. One of the kids that speaks to him is Oteil Burbridge, who later grew up to be one of the best bass players in the music business, making his name with the Aquarium Rescue Unit and later joining the Allman Brothers, for whom he's been the bassist since '97.
