Phantom of the Opera movie?
So, I just recently saw the previews for the Phantom of the Opera movie. I must say, I'm a bit skeptical of this endeavor. It could be absolutely fantastic. Or it could be an absolute flop. What do you guys think?

I hate to tell everyone this, because people seem excited, but I feel obligated. The cast can't sing. I just saw about 20 minutes of the movie from (source omitted) and they can't sing. The supporting cast and extras sound better then the stars. If Andrew Lloyd Webber were dead, he'd be spinning in his grave. Go see it live for God's sake. I know it costs more, but you get what you pay for.

I have only seen the trailers, but I'll admit to being a bit leery, simply from seeing the director who is attached.
(I really, Really, don't want to see the phantom's nipples)

Sorry to be so culturally ignorant, but what genre does PotO fall into? Horror, thriller, romance, or a combination?

I'm just gonna go ahead and quote Stewie Griffin on this one:
"You are the worst thing to happen to musical theater since Andrew Lloyd Webber! And you.... I just don't like you..."

I saw one of those making of things, and when I heard whoever they cast as the phantom sing, I thought it was a joke.
It wasn't. See it live. Don't let this movie ruin the experience for you if you haven't seen it live. You won't forgive yourself.

Interesting bit of trivia from IMDB:
: The project was ready to begin filming in 1990 and was set to star Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman (the original stars of the stage version). Just before filming began, Andrew Lloyd Webber divorced Brightman and the project was put on hold. John Travolta and Antonio Banderas were both considered for the role of the Phantom. Banderas actually spent several years in vocal preparation. ----------- Somehow - I don't think this movie is going to be even close to the live show, well, maybe as good as the road show that went to Duluth...

Nope. I just can't. It's an admirable stage production, not amazing, but you certainly get what you pay for.
But I refuse to support this. Not under the direction of Joel Schumacher. He deserves to be drug into the street and beaten for ruining the Batman franchise. And I have very little doubt that he will bastardize this musical.
