At the very most it looks decent. The original was on T.V. the other night but I didn't get to catch the beginning of it. If I see it again I'm gonna check it out.

I too, loved the original Flight of the Phoenix.
I saw the new footage the other night while watching Lost and I thought it looked pretty promising. I've always liked Dennis Quaid and Giovanni Ribisi and they looked good in the footage.

Remakes are generally pretty uninspired. Some movies come about at a certain time and place and don't always fit in different times.
A great example of this is the "Planet of the Apes." SPOILERS In the original of course, the suggestion is that nuclear war has devastated the planet. If that ending were used today, I think the conclusion might be that humanity destroyed the ecosystem, rather than cold war fears of nuclear apocalypse. (See A.I., at the end with a submerged New York City. We are meant to think it was due to environmental catastrophe). POTA couldn't be remade with that nuclear apocalypse ending because it doesn't make as much sense now as it did then. END SPOILERS With Flight of the Phoenix, I don't remember the original being so confined to a particular time. Maybe it's themes of united workers and ingenuity might seem dated, but I think it could be easily adapted. It might turn out to be one of the better movies to be remade. Of course, Hollywood could still easily screw up the execution. But overall, I'd almost rather see a revival of Flight of the Phoenix than a remake. Would the original really do so poorly if it was re-released in theatres today? Of course you'd clean up the sound and visual presentation, but there's no reason the original couldn't be shown.

Growing up my dad made me watch the original.. I moaned and groand but ended up really liking it. As with all remakes of old phones i'm tentative. It's one thing yeah they're remaking Amytiville Horror again or some silly movie but a classic like that I hope it turns out good.
