Biggest Loser
Did anyone catch the episode of the Biggest Loser last night? It's on NBC. I can't believe we have a show on television that shows people fighting for $250,000 to lose weight!! It makes me want to put on an extra 80-100 pounds and get on the show. How do you audition for a show like that? "I'm 100 pounds overweight, eat nothing but cake and fried foods and I want to be crowned "The Biggest Loser." All joking aside, I think it is great to see people losing weight and feeling good about themselves. The thing that stands out to me is that this show proves to so many people out there that they can lose weight if they want to. It also shows that some people take longer to do it than others. For example, Maurice. He was over 400 when the show began is just broke the 400 mark on last night's episode. The other thing that was interesting is that most of the women who got under 200 stated, "this is the first time I have been under 200 in over 2, 3 or more years." I just don't understand that train of thought. If I get 10-20 pounds overweight I start changing my eating habits and get my butt in the gym!!

I think It's a bit of a crock (in terms of judging the contestants!) Namely cause they just use how much wieght they loose?
What if someone starts putting on muscle or something, of course they're gonna weigh more, albeit be healither, having more lean muscle mass? weight doens't necessarliy equal health! :o i thought they could do more test, namely a skin fold or relative weight lost (so the lighter people don't get screwed!); however i guess it's not as exciting as the random weight/scales output discombobulating up and down to ad suspense :p of course it's just started in australia, cause we're still in the ice age :p |
You were mistaken. They did use % of weight lost. The final winner was determined by the highest sum of the percentage of weight loss and the change in body fat percentages.

ok, as i said, this has just started in Australia, so i haven't seen the final episode yet. but i guess that's good to know. Now i don't have to watch it :)

My wife made me watch that show, it wasn't that bad, and I'll admit the contestants worked their asses off, except Maurice (he should have lost more).

I think its kinda good... for me it was like an inspiration to hit the gym and excercise more

Of all the things that could be made into a large budget, televised competition, weight loss is one of the ones I give a thumbs up to.

It was a really good concept, fitness and wieght are two things that everyone relates to!
