The Official Battle of the Movies Thread

Well the movie poster thread dissapated, so let's move on to a pick the better of the two movies. Same rules apply, I'll post the posters and you vote on the film. Remember you are voting on the films themselves, not the posters anymore. Have fun.

T2 was much better. T1 was still very good, but in terms of action and effects T2 definatly takes the cake.
The story of machine vs machine (T2) was fun but man vs machine (T1) had more of an emotional feel for it because its not a programmed piece of metal, its an actual person fighting for the future against impossible odds and a big metal arnold.

in conclusion, wheres T3?! it wasnt the best but was damn well good enough to be mentioned.

absorbentishe 11-30-2004 10:44 AM

T1 was most excellent. Not the most visually appealing, but it was great. T2 was good, a lot more action, but not as deep.

grendel 11-30-2004 11:10 AM

i'll go with T2

FoolThemAll 11-30-2004 11:53 AM

T2

More dynamic, and not just in cinematography. I liked the dark mood in the first, though.

stevie667 11-30-2004 11:57 AM

My vote goes for T1.

The thing i loved about the terminator was the sense of whatever you do, the thing is going to kill you. The hopelessness, and then overcoming the worst odds is what kept me glued.

T2 still had this, but T3 IMO just didn't click.

darens42 11-30-2004 07:59 PM

T2 was a way cool special effects flick, but I liked the darker uncertain story from T1 better

Rdr4evr 11-30-2004 08:05 PM

Terminator 2 all the way.

Nikilidstrom 11-30-2004 08:06 PM

The can't kill humans thing lamed up T2, as did Ed Furlong. T1 is by far the better movie.

matteo101 11-30-2004 08:24 PM

Im going with T1. I think the terminator was an amazing villain.

Mr. Spacemonkey 11-30-2004 10:23 PM

Terminator 2, easily.

Coppertop 11-30-2004 10:26 PM

The (original) Terminator for sure. It created the standard for the others.

leo_cote 11-30-2004 10:42 PM

T2 for Guns and roses

djflish 12-01-2004 01:49 AM

Should have done a poll, then we could see the results...
They are both excellent, but T1 just beats T2 cos its the original.

And T3, as a seperate action movie, it was good. But as a Terminator movie, it sucked!

Charlatan 12-01-2004 03:06 AM

That's a tough one... both have strong stories, great characters, etc. The budgets are way different though... comparing the special effects is not useful.

If I have to choose I'd choose T2 but only barely.

grendel 12-01-2004 06:37 AM

i agree with the comments about furlong. i almost went with T1 for exactly that reason...

FailedEagle 12-01-2004 11:43 AM

Well, shit, I can't seem to get a count here, I'll try again. unregistered, how exactly are you voting. Polls are still open, but will close soon. I Like reading comments on the films so, let's try to end our post in the following way, or something of this nature

My vote is for (Insert vote here)

*Ahem, don't but the (Insert vote here) part, instead replace it with your vote.

I vote for, or just vote are also fine.

Make a poll next time, way easier.

FailedEagle 12-01-2004 12:09 PM

are polls changable? I don't want to have to make a new thread every battle

FunkyLamb 12-01-2004 03:08 PM

Got to go with T2.

RogueHunter65 12-01-2004 03:42 PM

T2...

The hallway scene with the box of roses, totally awesome. Enough said

omega2K4 12-01-2004 07:42 PM

Terminator 2, more blow'd up stuff = good.

Willravel 12-01-2004 08:14 PM

My vote? The Terminator.
Arnold was pure machine - somehow Armold is able to portray that pure cold killing machine much better than Robert Patrik in T2 (not that RP did a bad job, because he did quite well).
John wasn't bothering me - I really hated that whole buddy-buddy thing with the reprogramed Terminator.
Linda Hamilton was gorgeous - not that crypt keeper-esque man beast that was in the second movie. I understand that her character was changed by the experience in the first movie, and her character's physical change was due to her being prepared for the future attack, but this somehow was too much for me. It took away the sensual part of the movie. That is a must for a guy's action flick.
The story line was very original for a mainstream movie - a killer robot from the future...well you know. Somehow the introduction to that amazing reality was so mindblowing that it softened the blow of T2 for me. The writing was really good. It had this really intense feel to it, even during the boring times.
I was a little kid when I first watched The Terminator - nothing will ever scare me or amaze me like this movie did. When I saw T2, I was already becoming cynical and bored with hollywood. That in itself made the movie less interesting.

IMO.

FailedEagle 12-02-2004 08:32 AM

Terminator 2 wins

We're going to stick with the "Movies with Sequels" theme

Raiders of the Lost Ark

vs

Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade
http://imagecache2.allposters.com/im...RUSREGREPR.JPG

Nikilidstrom 12-02-2004 08:44 AM

While I like them both, I'm going to have to go with Raiders, simply because I grew up loving that movie. It is everything a good action/adventure movie should be. Last Crusade was more of the same, but fealt like it was trying too hard to be bigger and better, sacrificing a little on the story end.

unregistered092 12-02-2004 09:44 AM

last crusade.
i like the whole "questing for the holy grail" thing. its fun.

default_i 12-02-2004 09:53 AM

Last Crusade based pretty much entirely on Connery.

Coppertop 12-02-2004 10:48 AM

What?! No Temple? Why the insistence on choosing movies with 2+ sequels and only offering a choice between 2? Interesting...

Raiders. Again, it set the bar.

FunkyLamb 12-02-2004 05:18 PM

Raiders. No question.

It set the standard.

FailedEagle 12-02-2004 05:44 PM

I realized that I've picked two films out of trilogies, however from my experience in film, the general consensus of the community is that T3 and Temple of Doom are the "least favorite" the others however flip-flop on everyone's list. I'm sorry if this offends you, but I can't please everyone ;)

Coppertop 12-02-2004 05:47 PM

Not offended, I was just curious.

Willravel 12-02-2004 07:31 PM

Henry Jones Sr. makes my pick the Last Crusade. You can't beat the original Bond.

frankx 12-02-2004 08:47 PM

Last Crusade. You just can't beat Connery.

darens42 12-02-2004 08:59 PM

Raiders by far - it rocked nonstop from the get go

Charlatan 12-02-2004 11:00 PM

Raiders is the King! The only reason Last Crusade is winning is that most of those voting weren't alive when Raiders came out...

Raiders of the Lost Ark changed my life. I became interested in films and filmmaking because of that film... it is why I am in the industry today. Really.

FngKestrel 12-03-2004 12:01 AM

Last Crusade, especially with the allusion to the first movie. Sean Connery and Harrison Ford have great chemistry in this movie. Not as good as Short Round and Indy, but that's not a choice. :p ;)

Indiana Jones: Ark of the Covenant.
Elsa: Are you sure?
Indiana Jones: Pretty sure.

alarment13 12-04-2004 02:25 PM

iI would have to say the last crusade, because of connery
