Best Christmas Film Ever?

There are three films that I watch about this time every year, to get me in the christmas spirit!
It got me thinking, which is the best christmas film ever?

I know there are some classics such as It's A Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol and White Christmas, but they're not really one's for me.
My personal top 3:

1. Die Hard (well, its set at christmas anyway!)
2. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (100% the same as my family!)
3. The Nightmare Before Christmas

Oh yeah, and not forgetting
4. Jingle All The Way (kidding! )

For me, it's A Christmas Story.
You'll shoot your eye out kid!

omega2K4 11-22-2004 01:31 PM

I hate Christmas movies, for the most part, they are so cheesy. But I do like one, and that is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

Reese 11-22-2004 01:42 PM

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation,
Christmas Story,
and Scrooged.

I've watched these movies SO many times! I've probably watched Christmas Story more than I've watched Starwars, and I only watch it during the holiday season :)

Nefir 11-22-2004 01:59 PM

A Christmas Story, for sure. How can you NOT love a movie that involves Santa Claus pushing a kid down a slide with a boot to the face?

Miracle on 34th Street (the original one)... A damn fine Christmas movie, if I may say so myself.

Last night I saw The Polar Express, and it turned out to be a very beautifully-done holiday movie that really put me into the spirit of the season. I'll throw it in there too.

CSflim 11-22-2004 02:04 PM

Gremlins.

(Interestingly "Gremlins." is less than 10 characters long)

radioguy 11-22-2004 02:04 PM

national lampoon's christmas vacation is watched every year at my house....it's #1 in my book.

bad santa will get some mention from me as well. this flick made me cry from laughing so hard last year....it's a ways behind, but still #2 to me

MPower 11-22-2004 02:14 PM

Die Hard
Scrooged

and I know it is a Thanksgiving movie, but there arent that many and I will lump it in with Christmas: Trains, Planes and Automobiles

World's King 11-22-2004 03:27 PM

What about the Charlie Brown Christmas movie... with the shit-ass tree?

inharmony 11-22-2004 03:33 PM

My favorites: Christmas Vacation, Scrooged, Christmas Carol, Nightmare Before Christmas and Christmas Story.

pants 11-22-2004 03:49 PM

Never mind the Christmas theme

Guys, if you wanna see a really great movie during Christmas , then watch Roman Polanski's The Pianist.
Great movie...You will love to watch it again and again...the story is compelling, I am glued to the screen every time it is shown on Sky movies

lukethebandgeek 11-22-2004 03:49 PM

Home Alone, Rudolphe the Red Nosed Reindeer, and A Christmas Carol

It doesn't really make one very festive, though...

Charlatan 11-22-2004 04:27 PM

It's a Wonderful Life... makes me do the big blubber every time.

A Christmas Carol... the one with Alistair Sims... reminds me of my grandfather

snowy 11-22-2004 04:30 PM

Love Actually!!!

Okay, so Christmas is just the backdrop, but seriously! It's an awesome movie. I laugh, I cry, I oogle Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman and Liam Neeson to my heart's content...Heck, any movie with those four men is going to be a favorite of mine...but it really is a good movie!

pcockren 11-22-2004 04:31 PM

A Christmas Story, Charlie Brown's Christmas, and National Lampoons Christmas Vacation rocks...drum roll please.....

Lefty04 11-22-2004 05:28 PM

A Chritmas Story is my favorite, but I'll also watch Bing in White Christmas - so bad it's good.

00111000 11-22-2004 05:37 PM

All good ones so far...but what about Emmet otters jug band christmas??? You all know that the Riverbottom nightmare band rocked!

choskins 11-22-2004 05:51 PM

Christmas Vacation; Gremlins; Miracle on 34th Street

runtuff 11-22-2004 06:33 PM

It sure is NOT Polar Express, cute, nice, but of so forgettable.

11-22-2004 06:40 PM

Die Hard has always been my mom's favourite Christmas movie...

I've gotta say mine are It's a Wonderful Life, Scrooged, and Christmas Vacation.
Generic choices, but oh so good...

ChrisJericho 11-22-2004 07:21 PM

We have a slightly odd Christmas film tradition in our family. Sometime back in the 80's someone in the family videotaped "Mickey's Christmas Carol" off ABC. Now every Christmas me, my brother, and my cousins all watch it togther, the blurry VHS quality just adds to the memories. :)

Willravel 11-22-2004 07:25 PM

My list would look something like: It's a Wonderful Life, It's Christmas Charlie Brown!, Fantasia (original and 2000), How the Grinch Stole Christmas (not the new one, the original), Die Hard, and any old christmas special with Perry Como or Nat King Cole or Bing Crosby.<--- They knew how to sing christmas songs.

splck 11-22-2004 07:36 PM

A Chistmas story...I love the leg lamp.

lpj8 11-22-2004 08:05 PM

My personal favorites are:

It's a Wonderful Life - I don't think there is a movie that makes me feel better than this movie. It really makes the problems in my life seem trivial.
Charlie Brown Christmas - Childhood favorite and christmas tradition
A Christmas Story - "You'll shoot your eye out"

maleficent 11-22-2004 08:14 PM

A Christmas Story -- Ralphie in the pink bunny jammies, the Bupkis's dogs, does your tongue really stick to a metal pole, Fa Ra Ra Ra Ra, Ra Ra Ra... so many classic moments....
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the animated version)
The mUppet Christmas Carol
The Bishop's Wife

Lockjaw 11-22-2004 08:17 PM

To everybody that said a Christmas Story...I love you guys!

The best Christmas movie ever. Every year on Christmas eve I sit down and watch the 24 hour marathon on TNT. I usually average seeing it completely through about 3 times and catch bits and pieces of my favorite scenes about another 3-4 times.
I identify SO much with this movie it's not even funny. I remember being about 8 and I wanted a Voltron SO bad and my mom would give me every excuse in the book why I couldn't have it. But my dad came through and hooked me up and ever since I saw that movie for the first time I felt like I was watching that Christmas being played back for me. My family doesn't understand it but that's my own little tradition I've made and I plan on passing it on to my kids. I even got a DVD of it last year to make sure I'll always have the ability to watch it endlessly on Christmas eve and day even if they stop showing it on TV for whatever reason. I love that movie so much I think I've probably seen it more times than Star Wars which is my "official" favorite movie... I even have half the lines memorized and say them along with the movie.

Scut Farkus...What a rotten name! There he stood between us and the alley. Scut Farkus staring out at us with his yellow eyes. He had yellow eyes! So help me God YELLOW EYES!

Sons of bitches! Bumpuses!

LIMilf 11-22-2004 09:27 PM

1. A Christmas Story
2. It's a Wonderful Life
3. Miracle on 34th St. (the original)

boom29 11-22-2004 10:23 PM

The favorite, Love Actually, and as already mentioned, Die Hard. Yes, they are an interesting combination for favorite Christmas moves.

Kadath 11-23-2004 05:21 AM

Hooray! Maleficent listed my favorite, Muppet Christmas Carol. I think Love Actually will become a favorite, but it hasn't been out long enough to make that spot for me.

And, of course, Reindeer Games. Haha!

Averett 11-23-2004 05:53 AM

Mikey's Christmas Carol is a classic at my house too. And yes, the grainy VHS taped off of the Disney Channel version :)

Along with that for me its:

A Christmas Story
Miracle on 43th Street (original)
It's A Wonderful Life
Love Actually (this is a new one, but it's such a great movie)

And the Christmas Trilogy: Charlie Brown Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer.

monkeydriven 11-23-2004 06:12 AM

A Christmas Story
Nightmare before Christmas

What....no one liked 'Silent Night, Deadly Night"?

unregistered092 11-23-2004 08:12 AM

national lampoons christmas vacation

twister002 11-23-2004 08:13 AM

Emmet Otters jug band Christmas brings back good memories. Holiday Inn does to, the one the song "White Christmas" was originally in.

A Christmas story is responsible for my friends and I going out for Chinese on Christmas day, y'know after the relatives have all gone and nothing good is on TV and the leftovers are all put away.

la petite moi 11-23-2004 08:25 AM

I prefer plays over movies for Christmas!

I like the story of Scrooge, and the Christmas Story.

Paradise Lost 11-23-2004 08:29 AM

It's a Wonderful Life
Never sat through the Christmas Story all the way =(

The Bing Crosby/Danny Kaye film? That's called White Christmas.

Can't believe I forgot that one!

Tralls 11-23-2004 09:10 AM

Definitely Christmas Vacation and Christmas Story are the top two! I need to see Bad Santa as I;ve heard good things.

We can't forget a new potential classic...Elf! Will Farrell is comedic genius!

tropple 11-23-2004 09:49 AM

My Favorites in Order:

We're No Angels (1955, Humphrey Bogart, Aldo Ray, Peter Ustinov, Basil Rathbone, and the oh, so hot Gloria Talbott)
One Magic Christmas (1985, Harry Dean Stanton, Mary Steenburgen)
Scrooge (1951, Alastair Sim)

Averett 11-23-2004 10:05 AM

Hate that movie! Oh man, my sisters always wanted to watch it. It made me want to poke my eyes out.
