I think the "twist endings" are going to hurt his career. Everying now is just focusing on trying to figure out the "twist" rather than just enjoying the movie. When the Village came out everyone just wanted to know how it ended. If your just waiting for the ending, the rest of the movie will seem long and boring.
I think he has the talent to be a great film maker, even if he stays focused in the suspence/thriller genre, but shouldn't concentrate so much on the big surprise at the end. Hitchcock didn't need to rely on twist endings and there are only so many "Soilent Green is PEOPLE!" moments out there.
