So, let's talk about Adult Swim....
I was posting in a Simpson's season premiere thread earlier, like 30 minutes ago and posted this.

Well, thanks guthmund for bringing this to my attention. What a well thought out post.
All kidding aside. I had completely forgotten about that Perfect Hair Forever thing. Couldn't imagine why.... That "thing" was mildly amusing for about 5 minutes, after that, well, it's a memory best forgotten. I enjoy the Futurama and Family Guy they're rehashing, but I've yet to see any of their new shows worth a shit other than The Venture Bros and that one gets a little tired sometimes. Even the new seasons of old favorites seems a bit off. Sealab, ATHF and Harvey Birdman all used to be funny. Mildly retarded, but entertaining. Now I wonder why I bother spending 15 minutes watching it. Although to be honest, I did enjoy the mooninites episode tonight. I always enjoy the mooninites, but the rest of it was total trash.

Eh...anime now a lot of that is some pointless and annoying crap.
As far as Adult Swim goes, I didn't see the new stuff last night but...ATHF is still amusing to me. Not as funny as season two but it is funny. Sealab...it just lost it after the guy that played Captain Murphy died. He made that show with his wild ass presence. Harvey Birdman...never thought that was even remotely funny so this season sucking isn't a shock. I DO like the Venture Brothers though. Johnny Quest was one of my faves growing up so seeing a twisted version of that show is great. Home Movies is also funny too bad they have it shoved way the hell at the end of the night and I typically fall asleep before it comes on. They need to do some new Space Ghost Coast to Coast episodes cut Harry Birdman, drop Oblongs, move Home Movies up in the line up and leave it at that. |

SeaLab is corny...u may get 1 or two chuckles but the rest of the time you wonder what does it take to make a cartoon because these individuals obviously missed a few lessons.
ATHF is a tad bit better...but not really worth catching everyday. Family Guy/Futurama/Venture Bros. are the only saving grace to that cartoon time block |

I enjoy Harvey Birdman, though it's far from my favorite. Venture Bros is okay, but I've only seen a couple episodes and it seems like it might get old fast. ATHF and Sealab are just a waste of time, as far as I'm concerned. Of course Family Guy and Futurama are great, but I'm getting to the point where I've seen most episodes at least twice. Did anyone have any opinions on Super Milk Chan?

The Oblongs have got to be the worst idea for a cartoon ever. I can't think of any other cartoon that sucks as bad as this one. Oh wait, the Brak show. Guess I can. Quote:
As for anime, I never really did get that stuff. I've tried watching all the "great" movies that are constantly recommended, I've seen it on Cartoon Network and even watched a few episodes of different series on AS. I just don't get it. I really like the names...Akira, Witch Hunter Robin, Wolf's Rain, Ghost in the Shell, Fullmetal Alchemist, but I try watching them and my eyes glaze over and I feel my IQ drop.

I am glad that there are organle cartoons American cartoons for adults playing on TV. Simpsons, futurama and family are all really good, but fall into that 80-90s sitcom mood of show. I suggest watching Venture Bros. This IMO is the single most funny and original show on tv. Harvey takes a little getting used to, but it has it's moments to be sure. I never got Brak, ATHF, Sealab, or SpaceGhost. NOW Adult Swim is airing Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (by far my favorite anime series), Read or Die and Fullmetal Alchemist. Those are some damn good anime series, for those who don't know. Just watch what you like.

I'm not the kind of guy who watches something just so he can gloat when the quality begins to waver, but I have to admit a lot of AS has been off its game lately. Birdman's good- but since it's one of the few shows that actually has any production values, new episodes are few and far between. ATHF, while still the best thing they have to offer, hasn't been as consistent this last season, and too often they're falling back on blood for a punchline. And I've never liked anything about Sealab. Ever. Even if it is just a stupid comedy show, I don't see why I should give a damn about the characters if the writers don't.
Last night's Squidbillies stunt was a big middle finger. I wasn't expecting much from the new show anyway, since it looked more or less like an ATHF derivative, and there's not much sense in ripping off your own ideas. But what they ran instead was just phoning it in. Anime parody? It's been done, and better, by eighth-graders on Newgrounds. And the second half was just an excuse for blood jokes, a Meatwad cameo, and saying "penis" once every fifteen seconds. The whole thing literally gave me a headache. As for Milk-Chan, I saw some fansubbed episodes a while back, with the original spoofy opening sequence and the foreign pop-culture references explained with onscreen notes, and it was genuinely funny, something like a Japanese Ren & Stimpy. This version feels a lot slower paced, and the whole cast sounds like they're on lithium. It also had the misfortune to premier after AS's bad Squidbillies joke, and I doubt if it'll catch on.

I used to always watch Adult Swim. Family Guy, Futurama, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Oblongs (yeah I like it..a lot!), Home Movies (fuckin great), Spaceghost...etc. I never watched Mission Hill cause it looked kinda stupid but then one day I caught the episode where they made fun of "The Real World" and that was utter hilarity. One of the funniest things I'd seen in years. After that I started watching it and it was a pretty funny show. MTV for a short while there started showing cartoons again as well and they were showing this show called "3rd South" that show is fuckin funny. I haven't bothered to catch anything new they've been showing on Adult Swim. I guess i could give some of them a try. I've never really given Venture Bro's a try. I caught one episode once where some hooker was trying to have sex with them and it was so ridiculously stupid, corny and unfunny I no longer had a desire to watch the show anymore.

Well, I must be a complete jackass, because to me, ATHF and Sealab are quite possibly the funniest things on TV right now, next to the Chappelle Show of course. ATHF has dropped the ball a little, but the Mooninites will never get old. And Sealab kills me everytime I see it, even in reruns. I will agree that the Perfect Hair and Space Ghost deal was crap, but you had to chuckle a little bit when Uncle Grandfather told Gerald that "Hamburgers should be high." That Milk Chan was a complete waste as well, and I've got to imagine that it won't last very long. Fullmetal Alchemist looks pretty sweet so far, and I'll be sure to follow it from now on.
As far as Harvey Birdman and Venture Bros., I never really warmed up to those, but they have both had their moments when I was laughing like crazy. I guess the only gripe I have with AS is that they pushed Cowboy Bebop and Trigun way back in the lineup, and they keep showing the same damn Inuyashas over and over again. I have seen all of Bebop, but I still love watching the series. I have not however finished either Trigun or Inuyasha, and the backtracking is a pain in the ass. |

Triguns ending is pretty good. They've shown it several times. I've missed far too many episodes of Inuyasha to know if they're back tracking at all anymore. It pisses me off. What pisses me off even more is sometimes you can find the videos of the episodes you haven't seen at Wal Mart or some store like that.. a fuckin book store ya know? I'm like go out and buy the fuckin movies and show them on Cartoon Network dammit.

Killer Moth really hits his stride around episode 3 and 4. And Brock Sampson is pretty funny as well and unlike most of the AS shows it builds upon itself like a good TV show should. Oh and another show that's not Adult Swim but is on Toonami on Saturday....MegaXLR. That show fuggin rocks! Maybe it feeds directly into my main loves big robots, cars, and fighting but that show is funny as hell. I mean it's like somebody reached into my mid 80s loving soul and made a cartoon out of it. The episode they spoofed the G-force and Voltron all in one fail swoops was greatness. |

When Space Ghost Coast to Coast was on for 15 mintues a night, that was funny. When they do that same kind of humor for the entire overnight, then it is just plain dumb.

If you have seen my other posts, I have posted in anime threads before, I think that we can get along with a little anime and little comedy shows. Too much of one could upset the balance. I really like Adult Swim and the comedy shows like Aqua Teens. Aqua Teens came out on Halloween, all of the episodes and were very funny. Especially the "Broodwitch." And Homemovies, can't get enough of that show but I don't think they are making any more and it would surprise me if they did.

maybe im in the minority, but i thought the space ghost talk show thing was rather humorous. The cartoon they had before it was funny but too long so it started to get old after about 6 or 7 minutes. they showed an old aqua teen that was funny but i thought that episode ended with shake completely melting from the radiation.
that cartoon after that the anime or whatever it was, was just plain horrible, i was just listening to it and all i dcould make out was a high pitched "dumb ass" or something like that. I was lokoing forward to seeing brak not that :/ |

Not to get into a quotefest or anything, but Oglethorpe (the spiky alien leader) has some of the best one liners on the show. "Give me back my eyes so that I can express my anger!" I've been hooked on that show ever since I saw the episode where the Mooninites had all the villains come to a meeting on the moon. I like quite a few shows on Adult Swim. ATHF is hilarious, Sealab is always a good laugh, The Venture Bros. is great. Also, they've added Fullmetal Alchemist and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, both of those are great imo. Adult Swim is really the only reason I watch Cartoon Network anymore.

Okay.
I watched a new episode of Full Metal Alchemist and I think I might like it. Ghost in the Shell was a little better this week. So, maybe the influx of shit to Adult Swim is just their way of finding out what's good and what's not. I still think the Oblongs is stupid and there is no way I'm getting on board the Super Milk Chan (or whatever the fuck it's called) bandwagon.

And again, my hopes fall into the shitter.
Did anyone watch that "Tom goes to the Mayor" crap? The English language has no known words to cover the scope of my disgust. I should've known it was retarded crap when I saw both Tenacious D and Bob Odenkirk (whatever...from Mr. Show) making appearances. I think I would've preferred another 'Perfect Hair Forever' skit....

You still have to admit that they are taking chances - something very rare in entertainment. Of course a lot of it is crap, BUT some of it is good. Shows like Venture are going to come out of this clusterf**k after the dust settles, and that gives me hope. I hope other networks catch on and try actually hiring innovative writers instead of pushing another reality show.
