Indiana Jones 4

The big question here is "Is Harrison Ford to old to don the fedora and whip again?"

The script is being rewritten. http://www.comingsoon.net/news.php?id=6934

They are projecting for a 2006 release date.

Thoughts?

I personally can't wait

BuddyHawks 10-28-2004 04:37 PM

havnt seen the first three...probably should

Flyguy 10-28-2004 04:46 PM

As long as Steven Spielberg is directing, I'll probably go see it.

Spartak 10-28-2004 05:11 PM

Unfortunately what will happen (I hope not but...) people, especially critics will badmouth this movie for being too "cheesy". While casually forgeting that the trademark of the trilogy has been cheesy, light-hearted, entertaining action.

FailedEagle 10-28-2004 05:32 PM

BuddyHawks, You haven't seen the original trilogy? If you like action/adventure movies, then they should definatly be next on your must see list ;)

Yeah, yeah. I'll go see it, Harrison Ford is not too old to don the whip and fedora, just like Sean Connery was not too old to play his father!

lukethebandgeek 10-28-2004 06:21 PM

Man, I hope they just take "Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis" and make that the movie. God I wish they still had point and click adventure games.

frankgrimes 10-29-2004 09:37 PM

I've been waiting for this forever, I don't care how old Ford is. Just please let it be more like the first one, and nothing like the terrible, terrible second one (Spielberg, what were you thinking?!)

heroquest 10-29-2004 09:59 PM

I love Indiana Jones and have been waiting for this to be released for so long. Pretty soon he'll be too old for the release, and no one can replace Harrison.

Val_1 10-31-2004 01:53 PM

Love the Indy movies. I wouldn't expect a new one to quite match up to the original three, but I'm willing to give it a try. From what I understand they are writing the script to match Indy's age closer to Harrison's real age, so I don't see that being a problem.

superiorrain 10-31-2004 02:32 PM

I just hope this one classic doesn't go the same way as the the poor star wars follow ups or the ill fated Aliens 4. Please if you have to do it at least make on par with the orginals.

As Val_1 said "willing to give it a try" but i will cry if it doesn't match up (or get close) to expectation.

guthmund 10-31-2004 03:43 PM

You're absolutely right, superiorrain. The new movie simply has to be as good as the rest of the trilogy.

The first one was fantastic. The second not so much, but they really hit it right with the third one. It would be shame if the 4th installment wasn't as good as the original trilogy.

On the other hand, the movie seems to be in good hands. I wonder how they will address the "living forever" issue from the end of the third movie. Didn't Indiana and his father both drink from the Holy Grail thus ensuring their immortality?

It would be a shame if the 4th installment was anything less than spectacular.

guthmund, it was my understanding their immortality ended when they crossed the seal on the floor in the outer chamber.
I may be wrong, though. :)

Reese 11-01-2004 02:24 AM

Fremen: Exactly.

I have faith in Spielberg, I don't think he's made a movie that I really dislike. However.. The Writer, Jeff Nathanson wrote Speed 2 and Rush hour 2. I really don't think the film can be bad because it has to pass Spielberg, Lucas and Ford before it gets the greenlight. No way all three of them will sign up for a bad screenplay.

a while back I read that the version of the script then had him fighting Communists in the 1950's which would fit with Henry 'Indy' Jones Jr. birthdate of 1899 and Harrison's current age.

I think it would be great if they got Lawrence Kasdan to write the script for Indy 4. He worked on the script for Raiders and Empire Strikes Back, my favorites of the Indy and Star Wars trilogies.

MikeyChalupa 11-02-2004 11:26 AM

Wasn't the new movie supposed to be a "passing of the torch" movie where Indy is an older mentor-type character to a protege archaeologist? I thought I had heard that somewhere.

Either way, the clock is ticking, and has arguably run out. Imagine him trying to play Han Solo again. It just wouldn't work.

Indiana Jones and the Walker of Destiny!

I keed. It could work. I will not get worked up over it, however. I am not as invested in Indiana Jones as I am in, say LOTR or Star Wars, to pick one that exceeded my expectations and one that dashed them.

-Ever- 11-02-2004 04:46 PM

Wow, 2006 is a pretty early slated release date considering they're still working on the script. I too am very excited to see what they do with this.

Hmm, the new Star Wars are coming to mind for some reason... :hmm:

Yep, its been a while since I've seen it but thats how I remember it too. Thats why it was a big sacrifice and everything, they were giving up immortal life. Thats also why that night was having some really bad, boring centuries in there.

George Lucas rejecting a script that the other two liked does worry me a bit though. I mean, this is a guy who liked the line "the sand is so rough, unlike your skin which is soft" and decided to use it in his movie. I have a hard time trusting script judgement like that.

But hopefull Spielberg and Ford will be able to slap some sense into him if they find another good script.

LLL2 11-03-2004 02:39 PM

I'll probably would go see it thinking it would be great, then leave thinking I gotta quit falling in that trap. The trap of them making money off old films.

Hopefully it does turn out well though.
