A Series of Unfortunate Events... The Kranks one is plain boring and uninspired.

(missed being able to vote on Ocean's 12... it was really good!)

Rdr4evr 11-12-2004 12:49 PM

No contest......A Series of Unfortunate Events.

SecretMethod70 11-12-2004 01:35 PM

Oh geez. I'll be surprised if this one's not a shutout. Lemony Snicket.

Reese 11-12-2004 02:38 PM

A Series of Unforunate Events!

Wow, That Kranks poster is really bad... Couldn't they find a better picture of Jamie Lee Curtis? Maybe add a background...

m0rpheus 11-12-2004 02:39 PM

It's Unfortnate :) for the Kranks that the poster is just plain boring

Unfortunate Events wins

Bonesaw 11-12-2004 11:08 PM

Lemony Snicket!

Tophat665 11-13-2004 06:42 AM

There is no way I will ever vote for anything with Tim Allen on it. Snicket for the win! (She's Lemony Fresh!)

aberkok 11-13-2004 08:32 AM

Snicket please. Besides the fact that the poster for Kranks is lousy, the fact that the movie even exists is an affront to society.

Seething 11-13-2004 01:30 PM

Snicket hands down. The Krank's poster...what the hell were they thinking?

FailedEagle 11-13-2004 11:26 PM

For saving on typing Lemony is now LSASOUE (1-0)

vs

The Aviator

Rdr4evr 11-13-2004 11:51 PM

Lemony Snicket......Aviator is to cliche.

SecretMethod70 11-14-2004 02:33 AM

Lemony Snicket Aviator 1) has Leonardo DiCaprio on the poster and 2) looks just like every other movie poster.

Tophat665 11-14-2004 06:55 AM

I think Aviator looks better, has better composition, and even manages to make DiCaprio look vaguely male. However, it is as hackeneyed a design as ever was, and so, my vote to Snicket.

renaldorick 11-14-2004 08:19 AM

Did you see the one for Star Wars 3? I think it looks pretty bad. They darth vadar helmet looks like something from "Spaceballs" or something. It's all wide and looks weak I think.

Bonesaw 11-14-2004 08:59 AM

Lemony Snicket still conveys a better sense of what the movie will be about.

gyroscope 11-14-2004 09:23 AM

my vote goes to The Aviator

Stompy 11-14-2004 12:22 PM

I'd have to say... all the posters in this thread with the exception of "saw" are cliche.

The same formula has been used time and time again.

At least with saw.. you're presented with this very simple, yet bizarre image. That's it. I haven't seen the movie, but from the reviews I've read, the image looks like it could really describe the atmosphere of the movie itself without giving one single thing away.

Simple is good.

Remember the batman poster for the 1989 movie? It just showed the batman logo. That's it. THAT was a good poster. If it showed Keaton/Nicholson posing or making some goofy faces (a la DiCaprio in the Aviator poster above), it wouldn't have been so powerful and intriguing.

I liked the posters for Matrix Reloaded. It had the Matrix code and "5.15" (or whatever, I forget the date) That's all. You knew what it was, didn't know what it was about, it was mysterious! I didn't like the individual character posters (Morpheous, Trinity, etc), but I did like the poster of the twins.. just because they looked badass and you had NO idea who the hell they were. The colors in that one were also pretty sweet.

Other than that, you'll find that pretty much every movie poster is boring and unoriginal.. especially if it has some goofy picture of the actors in it (Alexander, Aviator, etc). A lot of "tough guy" flicks do this.. they'll take a picture of an average joe who's dressed up. Wow, a guy with a gun.. I haven't seen THAT before or anything. Mkay.. great, so what significance is this character supposed to have and what is this picture supposed to convey to me to make me want to see it or inquire more about it?

[edit]
And I do have to say... that Episode 3 poster is horrible. Really HORRIBLE. I could see if the cape naturally made this odd illusion of a darth vader helmet, but it doesn't.. and for them to forcefully make it appear like that just makes it look amateurish.

The poster for EP1 was sweet with Anakin's shadow casting the silhouette of Vader. You know what would've been good? A picture of Vader looking forward. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. That would've been perfect.

Jimellow 11-14-2004 12:47 PM

I don't really like either poster, but of the two, I like A Series of Unfortunate Events more.

The Aviator poster sucks, and it's blantatly promoting Leonardo instead of the movie, which results in average person going to see the movie for the actor instead of the movie itself (which likely sucks).

grayman 11-15-2004 08:31 AM

I vote for the Lemony Snickets poster

leo_cote 11-15-2004 10:55 PM

Series of Unforunate Events

bgivnin 11-15-2004 11:16 PM

Lemony Snickets goodness. :)

sadistikdreams 11-17-2004 08:59 PM

Lemony Snicket.

FailedEagle1 11-20-2004 12:25 PM

LSASOUE wins . . .

Lemony

Bonesaw 11-20-2004 07:05 PM

I'll stick with Snicket!

Apokx 11-20-2004 08:20 PM

I really dont like either, but Lemony gets a reluctant vote ;p

aberkok 11-20-2004 08:58 PM

I vote for Snicket though we have a strong contender again.

Seething 11-20-2004 11:30 PM

Going just by the posters, I'm gonna vote for Snicket. The PotO poster is mostly just black, and looking at the two people, I'd rather have it all black instead.

Tophat665 11-21-2004 07:20 AM

Tough Call! None of the above? They're both a little off somehow. I gotta go with Snicket, though, just on a gut feeling.
