Honestly, this is just a case of people being wayyyy too politically correct. If you don't want to see it, then don't. But don't go telling me not to see it. I am going to make my best effort to go to and support it. Its really not all that bad. Like, they have people from all ethnicities working on it, so I don't understand what the big problem is. Why stop here? Lets go boycott the Sopranos, every single Soap Opera, Seinfeld, hell, any tv show is full of stereotypes.
|
Well it depends on how you look at it. Some people are a little tired of stereotypes on t.v. Especially a minority actor who always has to play these stereotypes to get roles and pay his bills. See though it may not make an impression on the kids because they don't understand it, it is insulting to think such things constitute good clean fun and humor. I think thats her main problem. This sort of thing is never gonna stop though cause in truth a lot of people do find it funny or entertaining (to an extent that is). Even comedies based around minority groups & families have stereotypes all throughout them..if they aren't stereotyping themselves they're stereotyping white people or something else.

although stereotyping can be funny, it would take some smart kids to go see a movie like that and have them GET the stereotype, and not just absorb it as a factual representation. cuz that's what kids do. unless it's obviously a joke or not real, they take it as fact. I've been amazed by the gross generalizations and stereotypes of disney movies for years, I hope Pixar didn't get too brainwashed by their stint with the mouse.
if I had small kids, I probably wouldn't let them see it... but then I wouldn't let me kids watch 99% of movies and TV =P |
Personally, I've always thought that there comes a point in political correctness at which it becomes more ridiculous than any kind of bigotry.

i thought it was pretty funny..and on that line of thinking wasnt the lion king racist too?

At the risk of sounding politically incorrect, don't stereotypes come from somewhere? They only become stereotypes when they are common enough to be associated with a particular sect of society.....
|
Well when all ya tend to focus on is the bad in a particular group yes. Because if it's good they don't find it entertaining. Cause latino families working really hard to make a living is certainly common enough but you're not gonna see those qualities in a movie. You're gonna see them dancing or seducing someone, cooking up some mean mexican food, being a "cholo" vatos locos forever!, etc. etc. Ya know?
