OK, you guys have convinced me to set up a recording for Saturday. But, how many episodes are there supposed to be for this? I want to know what I'm getting myself into here...

It's a series. So if it's a full season (hopefully!) it'll be somewhere between 18-22 episodes or so. The pilot was 2 hours so they split it into 2.

Man!! This show don't hold back!
Usually, they keep you guessing about the good stuff til half-way through the season, but in this, it's bamm!, bamm!, bamm!, secret, secret, secret.

I like that it can make shivers crawl up my spine, especially with the Spoiler: radio distress-signal revelation.
And that p-bear scene was kick-ass.

Anybody notice in Charlie's flashback scene he was walking down the aisle, instead of running like in Jack's flashback?
Do you think it was shown that way because it was from his perspective, or am I reading too much into it?
Btw, what kind of drug was he taking? It looked kinda like brown sugar.

I am watching LOST because it is a creation from the same man that did
ALIAS* and it was good for the first 2 years. I like LOST so far and I know it
has to have a few mistakes in the story but wonder if you have found the
same ones that I have?* J.J Abraims??

1. Plane has violent actions in flight and the whole rear section of tail rips
off and plane crashes on island beach area? (Seems to me any such
disaster to an aircraft would make the crash so complete that there
would not be any survivors.) I can see a plane landing on the beach
with wheels up and having the wings torn off and having a number of
the passengers surviving.

2. Seems like the people would gather all manner of wood, tree limbs, and
anything that would burn and build a big bonfire/signal fire if they could
not get any radio or tranceiver to work.

3. WHY are they said to be 1000 miles off course? Were the pilots drunk or
were they blown off their route by a hurricane? (I know they need to be
out of any search planes to have more time on the island and produce 13
weeks of story.)

Averett: I'm right there with ya! Like I said before, I think this is one of the best shows (non-reality) that has happened to network t.v. in along time.

This show rules!! So now we know that Kate was the (criminal?) that the fed. Marshall was escorting (but the islanders don't). There is atleast one Polar Bear on the island (I digress, but, the producers didn't see fit to show any of the animal as it attacked, and only showed a slightly realistic looking taxidermy type animal that was supposed to be a Polar Bear after it was shot and killed.

I love the acting, setting, movie-like cinematography and whatnot...But I can't help but notice they've really skimped on things like: No outside views and/or effects of the actual plane crash, only flash-back shots from the inside of the plane as the (what?) happened to it. And when the pilot was grabbed from the cockpit, we never actually see anything besides his body being jerked up and out of the plane, not even a glimpse of what pulled him out. Then there's also what I said about the polar bear above. All in all though, that's just nitpicking, I really love the show and will be an avid watcher until the network inevitably yanks it off the air before giving it a fair chance.

One question I still have (among many) though is: Walt supposedly has a labrador that was on the plane. Jack saw a lab when he first came to in the jungle right after the crash. Walt and (I think) his dad talk to Jack and Jack asks them about a lab and then states he saw one/him in the jungle. Are the powers that be that write the show assuming that "we" will just assume there is just one dog/lab on the island. I find it hard to believe a dog would come through a plane crash alive (48 humans as well), but assuming one could, would he be uninjured? I think Walt's dog died in the crash or is still alive but somewhere else on the island (if it is an island) and the yellow lab seen so far was already on the island and means much more than it appears.

Locke, the orange in mouth guy: He still is an unknown but after tonight he doesn't seem so menacing and an unknown, just weird.

Charlie: Definately has a drug problem (herion?) that explains a bit and I no longer think he is a sinister part of the show, just a druggie that was/is freaking out about his next fix.

Hurley: So glad to see the fat guy has still made it to the second part of the pilot. His character seems to be the humble everyman type person. I'd rather see Boone's sister (the stuck-up blond who whines, gives herself a pedicure and insists on being a part of the "trek" up the mountain) die or get eaten before Hurley does!

The Korean couple: What gives with these two?! He's domineering like all get out and she doesn't seem the subservient type at all. Instead she looks at him with digust and what seems like loathing and anger. They're on a freakin' deserted island, if she hates/detests/or something other, him that much, why is she continuing to "obey" him? She could just walk away and join the rest of the people. She also looks at the suchi he prepared like she'd rather eat cat-poop, not because he made it but rather, it seemed, because she wouldn't or couldn't eat it. They are deffinatly a strange pair...

Spoiler: The looped message in French: So they heard an obscure message by a woman, in french, that doesn't tell them anything except "It" killed them all. And Sayid "thinks" it add's up to 16 yrs. that it's been transmitting. That could be meant that it "has" been 16 yrs. or that just due to his possibly faulty math, it "might" be 16 yrs. I read on another site from someone in France that what (Shannon?) the blond bitch, translates isin't all that's said. There's also something said in the loop about "Go to the Black Rock". This person is and speaks french so I trust they can understand what's being said in the taped loop during the show. That being said, why would the producers have the actor in english only translate part of the message when the show is mainly a US program? That's assuming this french person knows what they're saying.

All in all, I'm hooked and can't wait for a weekly dose of "Lost". If anyone is curious, just do a Google search and you'll find quite a few sites already devoted to Lost, and a lot of spoilers also (so consider yourselves warned!).

Ali

I was waiting to reserve judgement until I saw the second installment.

This show is, by far, one of the better new shows this season. It's got this patina of "weird," and enough goosebump moments to make me want to know more.

I also like the idea that they didn't show anything when the pilot was ripped out. It makes it much more frightening to not know what's lurking on the island and what "it" is. Too many shows jump the gun in this respect and I certainly appreciate that whoever is writing/producing this has decided to take the long route in developing the story.

I only hope it can keep up with my expectations and doesn't turn "stupid."

Yeah, alicat, please remember to use spoiler tags on things that you are speculating about. That bit about the transformer wasn't all on the show, and it might be key information. And I don't want to know about it before it happens, as I'm sure others don't.

This is the kind of show that is ruined for a lot of people once you figure out what's going to happen next. Part of what will keep me tuned in is that aspect of "What's going to happen next??"

That reminds me of that Tiny Toons Summer Vacation movie where the big croc man wants Buster Bunny to marry his 3 daughters and he's like "I can't marry all three of them! Thats bigamy!" and the croc is like "No son that big a me!" That was totally irrelevent wasn't it? Oh well

We need to get straight on the spoiler tag. As I see it, it is not out of bounds to openly discuss scenes that have already been aired. If some TFPers have taped or TiVo'd it and haven't seen it yet, then they should NOT read this thread until after they view it. Simple common sense.

I don't feel any compulsion to put a spoiler tag around something that has already been aired coast-to-coast. Otherwise, we'll never be able to discuss anything about the show, and this thread needs to be closed down.

If this is not agreeable, then I propose we have two separate "Lost" threads; one where we can have rational, intellectual discussions about the ramifications of certain scenes in each episode, and another where people can post things like, "Matthew Fox is hot," and "What a cool show, " and the ever-popular "When will she do a bikini scene?" without worrying about spoilers.

Oh wait, Lost, right? I agree with you, warrrreagle. If you haven't watched the show yet, don't check out the thread. But alicat did post some "spoiler-esque" type information in her post, and that's what I'd like to see put in spoiler tags.

As far as what happens on the show, I think that's fair game. Just be aware that we very well will discuss the show right after it airs here on the East coast. So those of you who are in other time zones, just be aware.

Being from New York and transplanted to Norfolk, I'm all for the East-Coast bias! But still, it's not totally fair to the whackos over on the west coast. If you want them to use spoiler tags before the show airs, then you should have to wait for the show to air for them before discussing the episode they haven't had a chance to watch yet. Granted it's only an hour or two but it's not their fault and they can't control when the show airs.

Oh yeah... Spoiler: I have a 12" penis.

Sorry guys, in the future I will refrain from posting about the show until it is done airing on the west coast, big brain fart, I just didn't think. Once it's finished airing I agree with Warrrreagl, we should be able to discuss what happened in the episode. Otherwise, what's the point of this thread?

As far a speculation goes, it's just that, speculation. What I posted about the show is simply my thoughts, ideas and questions about the episode, much like what alot of others in this thread have done, only a bit more rammbling . I have no inside knowledge, I'm just as much in the dark as everyone else is.

The exception in my last post is what I said about the part of the looped message not spoken that I had read about on another site. I can see how that could possibly be a spoiler for future episodes and I will certainly edit that with spoiler tags.

If someone would please help me out, I've never used spoiler tags before. Averett wrote: "To do this all you have to do is [ spoiler ]Inside info[ /spoiler ] (but without the spaces)". Simple enough but I don't understand what spaces in bold I should leave out. Thanx for the help anyone!

Ali

Edit by Bill O'Rights - I've gone ahead and and fixed it for you, but go ahead and scroll up to it, click the edit button, and look at the change that I've made at the beginning and end of your next to last paragraph. It's just as simple as that.

Ali, the spaces you need to leave out are the ones in the spoiler tags. Like this... {spoiler}Info{/spoiler} but with [] instead. Does that help?

Spoiler: It should look like this, try it out!

Oh, I see Bill explains it too. I should read more carefully! And to read a spoiler tag you just highlight the spoiled information.

Averett: Thanks for clarifying that for me, now I get it. I know how to view spoilers, just not how to post them.

Bill O'Rights: Thanks to you too, just noticed your edit in my post! I think maybe you and Averett crossed over with your posts! But, I don't see how the first three sentences of the last paragraph that you edited qualify as a spoiler. Those first three sentences are just rumination (or speculation or guessing) on my end about what was shown and happened in the 2nd. episode, and not spoiler type info. I truly appreciate your help, however, you edited my post for me in a way I don't think is quite right (although that is of course, up to you) and I don't know how to go back in my post and "unspoiler" the part that isin't a "spoiler" to begin with (if that makes sense?!). The only possible spoiler part is the 4th. sentence that starts with "I read on another site....". As I stated in my last post that is the part I would gladly put in spoiler tags because it isin't my own supposition, but something I gleaned from another source, whether correct or not.

I love this site and the show this thread is about, so I just want to be sure what goes and doesn't go when discussing something like this in the entertainment forum. As of right now, I'm a bit confused.

That aroused my curiosity, so I went looking for more info...

Quote:
You find polar bears in practically all arctic coastal regions, but rarely inland. Avoid them if possible. They are the most dangerous of all bears. They are tireless, clever hunters with good sight and an extraordinary sense of smell. If you must kill one for food, approach it cautiously. Aim for the brain; a bullet elsewhere will rarely kill one. Always cook polar bear meat before eating it.

CAUTION

Do not eat polar bear liver as it contains a toxic concentration of vitamin A.

ANIMALS / Polar Bear

Some Inuit tribes believed that polar bears were mystical creatures - half man, half animal. They told tales about bears that walked upright, shedding their skins at night and living as men do. When a polar bear was killed, the skin would be displayed in the home for several days, with tools and other gifts placed before it. Hunters believed that bears would sacrifice themselves to hunters in order to gain use of these tools in the afterlife, and that the bear's spirit would return to tell other bears which hunters treated it with respect.

Virtually every part of the bear was used, from the meat and bones to the fur. The only part that was thrown away was the liver, so poisonous as to make even the sled dogs ill.

Fascinating stuff. Thanks for the info, Mikey.

So far this is a great show, and i almost never watch anything on TV.

Anyways, this is what i think will end up happening....Spoiler: I was discussing it with a friend and we came to the conclussion that the polar bears were on the plane crash the happened there 16 years ago. The bears excaped and killed everyone except for the French lady who ran the loop, probably her too later on . Then the bears the adapted to the island, thriving due to the large amounts of prey to feed upon. Thus, they grew into enourmus, blood craving, behemoths, for polar bears are the most aggresive bears towards humans in real life, as well as already being the biggest four legged carnivores on earth. In addition, i don't see how the polar bear that was killed could be the only one there, for they said it looked young, especially if the huge monster(s) is a polar bear. If the polar bear was young then how would it get there and be the only one? After all if i penguin can survive on the Galapagose Islands, why can't a polar bear survive near Fiji

Well those are my thoughts so far about the monster, and I'm hoping that i could possibly get some more feedback on that teory here at TFP.

Anyone know of any "bigfoot/loch ness"-type legends that originated in the late 80's? Maybe the monster is a legendary character that most people have forgotten about. It would be awesome if it was Domo Kun! But my bets are the directors of "Lost" aren't that cool.

Maybe for speculation stuff, that you yourself are thinking put it in Spoiler tags but also put *Speculation* before it? That way people can choose for themselves if they want to read the speculation stuff or not.

**speculation**Spoiler: I read a guy's theory on another site about the possible origin of the monster.
He speculated it could be a mutation from the nuclear tests that took place in the Marshall Islands, specifically the Bikini atoll area.
If the Lost ones were going to Australia from the Fiji Islands, and they're 1000 miles off course, they could've come into contact with a place that had some adverse reactions to the radiation over the years.

Anyway, it's about as good a theory as any I've read.

Mal, watch this show! It's really really good.
Well consideringthey found a distress singal that's been broadcasting for what was it? 16 years? I think it'll all depend if they get off the island or not.

The show seems really good so far. I'm just glad the creator's of Alias didn't disappoint.

After seeing tonight's episode, I have a couple things that stuck in my mind. I think they've laid out most of the "essentials", like back story on main characters, attmepts at contacting the outside world, and answering a couple of questions here and there. I feel the show is now ready to branch out into more in depth story lines. Such as the monsters on the island, the Spoiler: "ghosts" that will show up in the next episode, and other character's back stories. I am very interested in seeing where the show goes. Definitely the first show in years that I'll make an effort to watch every week.

A couple of things that I found odd... The guy with the scar on his eye's clothes always seem spotless. Almost everyone else is wearing dirty, ragged clothes and look like the haven't changed since the crash. But this guy is soapy clean and his shirts are still perfectly white. Odd...

Also, the asian "couple". In the one scene he says to her, Spoiler: "I love you." But it's left aligned on the screen, almost as if he said more than that. Now I don't speak Vietnamese or Korean or whatever, but it'd be interesting to know if he said more.

Just my thoughts.

I'm still hooked. I like how they showed a bit more to Kate's story. Although there are still a ton more questions there...

Yeah, Locke (scar eye guy) definitly has something up with him. The Korean couple is really very interesting. The first two shows he seemed very dominering, and he still does, but it was shown that he does care for her. I'm interested to see their story.

Out of all the things that are a mystery right now, I think the one I want to know most is what Kate did to become a criminal/fugitive. I think they aren't telling us for a reason, but I can't imagine what she could have done that would be important that the writers feel they need to keep it a secret.

And somebody help me out here.....was her "captor" a US marshall, or just a bounty hunter? I can't remember if we were ever shown a badge or not.

Well, Sawyer stole the badge and the gun from him, so he could be a US marshall. I don't think bounty hunters have them... Or maybe they do. I've never had the chance to come in contact with either to find out
