Movies you hated the first time you saw them

What are some movies you hated when you saw them in the theatre, only to rewatch them and love them. For me, it was Road to Perdition.

I left the theatre totally pissed. Now, I can't turn it off when it comes on HBO every other day.

Well, I just watched The Big Lebowski for the first time today and I pretty much hated it, if you can call it hate.
It just left me with a feeling of Wtf?-ness.
Don't know if I'll see it again.

Couple of movies I hated the first time I saw them:

Starship Troopers: couldn't (and still don't) understand how they can have faster than light travel, yet still use bullets in their guns :-/

Fifth Element: dunno why I hated it so much. Just did.

But now that I have seen them a couple of time, I really love both those movies. Oh well, go figure.

American Beauty. Although I bet it had more to do with the fact that I watched it with my mother. The second time I saw it I was just awestruck.

I hated that movie when it first came out, but for whatever reason I watched it about a year ago and loved it. I have since then bought it and watch it from time to time

Pulp Fiction. The first time I saw it I just couldn't get my mind wrapped around the shifting timelines. But everyone kept telling me I was nuts for not liking it, so I watched it again. They were right, I was nuts. Great movie.

I feel the same way about Once Upon a Time in America, for similar reasons. I'm sure if I saw it again I would like it. I mean, how wrong can you really go with Robert DeNiro, Joe Pesci, James Woods, and Danny Aiello in the same movie?

The key to watching The Big Lebowski is to realize that it's just a story, and there's nothing to get. Once you get into that mindset and can appreciate The Dude for being The Dude it becomse much better. I had the same problem when I first saw it, but I love it now.

Austin Powers. The first one. The first time I watched it, I had to turn it off because it was so bad. Now when I watch it, I can't stop laughing. Not sure why I didn't like it the first time. Maybe it was the people I was watching it with...

Well I can't think of any movie that I changed my mind from hating to liking after a re-watch, but certain movies do improve with repeated viewing.

After watching The Big Lebowski for the first time I came out of the opinion that it was merely "very good". After a re-watch, it was upgraded to "excellent" status, and after the third viewing it became "arguably the greatest film ever made!" (where it has stayed for many further viewings!!)

After watching Pulp Fiction for the first time, I felt that it was OK, but horribly over-rated. On the second time I watched it, I felt that I "got it" more, and found it much funnier, (I was a few years older which may explain why)

Going to have to change this post because I didn't read it right. I only posted movies I hated.

I can't say that there are any. If I hate a movie once, I don't go back and watch it again.

My dad would always watch this movie and I thought it was the most boring movie ever. One day though, I sat down and watched the movie in its entirety and it was such an amazing movie.

So you are saying that now that you've watched Ghosts of Mars multiple times you enjoy it? I'm sorry, but that movie was horrid. I hope you are saying that it was the worst movie ever made and you will never watch it again, not that you enjoy it now that you've wasted the many hours to grow fond of it!

Edit - I guess I could contribute.. I can't think of any readily available movies that I've hated off the bat but forced myself to watch for the greater benefit of there actually being something there.. Maybe Napoleon Dynomite..

I didn't like Unbreakable the first time I saw it. Now, after watching it a couple more times, I love it. I think it's an awesome movie, and one of M. Night's best.

On the other hand, I hated Signs when I first saw it in the theatre, and I still fucking hate it.

I thought Zoolander was stupid as hell, I got it as a gift and somehow watched it more and more. it gets funnier every time. Now I realize it has two amazing things going for it... The most amazing cinematic acheivement ever (gasoline fight) and WIll Ferrell. Can you really hate a movie with Will Ferrell??
